From a historical context there is an opportunity for this to be the sequel to the Hershel Walker trade...

I don't necesarily think it is the right move for Dallas but with the contract situation of Murray and Peterson's lost year (and with Jerry Jones in the mix), I can see this happening. The real interesting off shoot would be what happens to Murray?

Why pay a ton to get ADP? If you're going to invest significant resources in the position then just resign Murray. Younger, no PR headache, and no need to provide trade compensation

The thought of ADP running behind that line seems scary. What will this do to his draft position? Am I jumping the gun here by putting him number 1 again? thoughts?

Maybe, maybe not. Keep in mind he was basically out of football for a year. Maybe that just helps him come back fresh and determined though.

Also he will be 30.

I wouldnt hesitate to take AP at 1 overall on the cowboys, though forte with john fox is really intriguing. I wouldnt give up much for him at all. They still have to fit his contract under the cap after they trade away an asset. For a 30 gear old rb? No thanks. Rbs dont mean anything in relation to a teams success. I believe a qb can be more effective with an efficient run game, but history shows that doesnt have to be with a high profile stud back.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/02/22/adrian-peterson-hasnt-asked-for-a-trade-yet/

Josina Anderson of ESPN reports that Peterson has not asked for a trade to the Cowboys and has not had any conversations with G.M. Rick Spielman.

Both Spielman and coach Mike Zimmer appeared on PFT Live from the Scouting Combine, and both explained that they haven’t spoken to Peterson, because they currently can’t. Once he’s reinstated from suspension, they will.

Either they're covering their asses, or the writer of the other report is spitballing.

If ADP goes to Dallas, I predict he breaks the single season rushing yard record in 2015.

I think he would be top 5 easy, and wouldn't be surprised if he went #1. Sure he'll be 30, but effectively 29 after last year and the dude is a freak of a human specimen.

won't happen unless things change drastically--with a trade, DAL would be taking on his salary. MIN has the leverage, since AP won't get reinstated until well into the free agency period. DAL would be more than happy to pick him up if he were released and would agree to a much reduced contract, but JJ is not going to give up any tangible assets in exchange for a player who won't be bound to renegotiate. this would give MIN and AP all the leverage, and DAL zero.

in other words, DAL would be trading for exactly the problem that they're trying to solve with murray.

The drama continues...

Peterson's agent reportedly got a little hot under the collar with Vikings execs at the Combine...

“He will never play another game for the Vikings,” said one person close to the player. “It's over.”

lol--no.

jones will not trade for peterson, especially not now. the bar to the trade was AP's contract, which any trade partner would have to honor. since DAL is trying to reduce major cap hits, it just isn't going to happen.

but this story changes the whole dynamic. if AP refuses to play, MIN can't hold onto his rights without paying him $40M to sit around and do nothing. this forces MIN to cut him, in which case his contract ceases to exist and other teams can negotiate from scratch.

the only issue is when MIN will cut him. the especially don't want DAL to get him, so i suspect that they're going to wait as long as possible in order to jam up DAL's negotiations with murray and plans for the draft. were AP available right now, DAL would be on the phone already, trying to sign him for something like 3yr/$20M fully guaranteed.

but until he's actually released, there's going to be no action at all from jones.

As a Dallas Cowboys fan, an Adrian Peterson fan, and an owner of Adrian Peterson in both my 1 keeper league and my 3 keeper league, this would be really great! :)

If they really want to get it done, can't any and every parameter change - including contract details?

not in a trade. when you execute a trade, you get the player and his contract. negotiations afterwards are possible, but there is no incentive at all for the player to renegotiate--he gets paid regardless, unless he volunteers to take less money.

When a team allows a player to seek a trade, contract negotiations are permitted (or if not permitted, turned a blind eye to).

If a team doesn't know it can work out a new contract with a player, his trade value goes down, hurting the team he wants to leave, and hurting himself as it makes it less likely he'll be allowed to leave.

bro, i told you this was gonna happen

You are so off base it's crazy.

First and foremost AP (nor anyone in his camp) has told the Vikings he wants to be traded. They can't under penalty of the suspension - in fact neither side can speak to each other until April 15th. Somebody around AP may have leaked that he wants to be traded - but he himself has not instructed the team of this.... Second, Dallas is not going to trade for AP and his outrageous contract. So many things like 'sign and trade' would have to happen for that to be - and even then AP would have to agree to tear up his existing contract and rework a new deal with Minny. The Player's Union would NEVER allow that to happen... And lastly - you haven't paid much attention to the workings of Valley Ranch the past few years. For whatever reason - age, late arriving wisdom, blind ass luck - Jerry has turned the corner on his ways of doing things. The days of throwing $$ at players bcoz he likes them is over. The days of extending pretty good, but old, players a year ahead of the end of their contract is over. The days of making stupid ass trades is over. In a nutshell that means no more Joey Galloway deals. That means no more Roy Williams deals. That means no more focking moronic extensions like Miles Austin and Jay Ratliff. And that means no more sweetheart extensions to even the face of a franchise - Demarcus Ware.

So much is still in play in regards to Dallas and their rb situation. Dez's deal will have en effect on it (specifically March 2nd - the day you can designate Franchise tags). The dates of March 7-10 will have an effect on it (dates teams can negotiate with other teams' UFA). And lastly the impending draft - who knows what kind of thinking Jerry, Stephen and Will have in mind.

Only thing we know for sure is that AP has not told the Vikings he wants to be traded to Dallas - and that after April 15th and he does tell them, Dallas isn't making that deal.

AP isn't Jay Ratliff?

Point being there are few APs in football. And I still believe that Jerry Jones can succomb to the shiniest bauble. The chance of it happening are unlikely as there are multiple variables. But, as i said above, if both sides realy want to get it done, they could find a creative way to make it happen

Nothing is happening until, or before, April 15th. That is not in dispute.

this would be an excellent fit

Yahoo's Rand Getlin reports Arizona's release of DE Darnell Dockett may have been to clear cap space for a run at Vikings RB Adrian Peterson.

Getlin's colleague Charles Robinson believes Arizona is Peterson's top choice. Peterson is still under contract with the Vikings, of course. Barring a restructure, his contract is untradeable. Peterson would be a foundation back for a coach who loves them in Bruce Arians. His arrival would be ominous for Andre Ellington, as Arians has always tried to eschew committees when possible.

Maybe, maybe not. Keep in mind he was basically out of football for a year. Maybe that just helps him come back fresh and determined though.

Also he will be 30.

Last time he missed significant time (torn ACL) he came back and ran for 2097 yards and 12TDs averaging 6.1 ypc...

that said... as a cowboys fan i'm rooting against this trade.. i hope they take a chance on DMC, ridley, or the draft so they can have more cap space to improve that D

Yahoo's Charles Robinson reports the Cardinals will offer a "high draft pick" for Adrian Peterson if the Vikings put him on the market.

Peterson has reportedly told the Vikings he is still not happy, but he has yet to be put on the trade block. Robinson believes Minnesota could fetch as high as a second-round pick for Peterson. It would be tough to give up a high pick and swallow a $12.75 million salary hit for a running back entering his age-30 season, but Peterson is a generational player that has defied the laws of Biology before. It looks increasingly like Peterson has played his last snap in Minnesota.

I voted no, but I cannot wait for that arse to be dumped.

Sad to see someone classy like Jenning dumped, meanwhile a moron like ADP being courted as though he is worth the time and attention.

 :nono:  Where is a puking emoticon. I mean like a exorcist style all the way across puking emoticon.

Hmm... it would be somewhat out of character for Steve Keim (Cards GM) to make that trade. If he did, he is basically saying they are all-in for the next year or two. As a fan I'd rather grab a Turley or Gordon or other RB in the draft and use the money to upgrade other positions. But it would be interesting.

Rotoworld.com states:

A Cardinals source tells SI's Peter King that the three years and $45 million left on Adrian Peterson's contract are an "absolute non-starter" in potential trade talks.

"We haven’t had contact with the Vikings about it, to the best of my knowledge," the source said. "And there is no way we could live with those numbers." It's far from surprising. As dominant as Peterson has been in the past, he's five days shy of his 30th birthday, and coming off a lost season. Reports that the Cards were willing to surrender a "high draft pick" were likely the result of Peterson's agent trying to drive up demand. The Vikes continue to claim they want Peterson back, but he's made it clear he wants out. Peterson's release is the most likely endgame.

I kept telling you there wasn't a team out there that was so horny for AP that they'd be willing to take on the $13m, $15, $17m contract in a trade - you were so convinced somebody would... Well, were are all the suitors? Hell even Arizona's front office has come out and said 'no focking way' they were paying that.... AP is either going to have to stay in Minny or take a huge pay cut.

You said many times that Jerry and his boner would trade and pay AP. Even at $8 or $9m - that's not happening.
