So, this is what it's like to miss the playoffs

Recommended Posts

Have to say, it sucks.

But, after all these years, I've never felt closer to many of you!

I do four leagues a year - my main one on Yahoo, a pickup league on Yahoo each year, one that resembles the format of my main league (2-QB, flex, IDPs, no crazy scoring like for completions or anything), a high-scoring league of a friends on ESPN, and a league on NFL.com.

Anyway, I almost always make the playoffs. My main league is the most competitive, hardest league. In 13 years, I've missed the playoffs twice. This is year 14 and I'm in first, again. In the ESPN league I'm usually the high scorer, though I'm 90s Bill always coming in second. On NFL.com, I'm in this league where, supposedly, everyone's won a "feeder" league. I won that last year and am in first this year.

But that other Yahoo league....Yeah. Not gonna make the playoffs. After starting the year with 4 straight games of having the 2nd highest score in the league yet losing to the weekly highest scoring team, having lost a 5th game by .06 and now losing this week by 1.21 (thanks Ertz and your 2.8 points! That was awesome), I am done. Will miss the playoffs.

So, this is what it's like. I think this is good. Now I can at least try to feign empathy with the rest of you.

Still, nice :)

You simply didnt have your guys outscore his guys enough times. Head to head, decent team vs decent team its very literally entirely up to chance. You cannot affect your win/loss record, you can only manage your team well enough to score a good amount of points. Wether you win is complete luck of the draw who you play.

Top scoring team in one of my leagues is 3-7, Im like 5th in scoring and 7-3. FF!

Play dynasty. Losing just means preparing for rookie draft earlier with a better pick!!!

Just saying that we should try to appreciate all the brilliance we have and understand that not everyone is as fortunate as we are. Contrary to what you will read on this forearm, not everyone really wins every "BIG" money league that exists.

Sometimes it's good to experience how the also-rans in life live.

I miss the Dynasty league i used to play in. Took me 3 yrs to rebuild a team that had been horrible. but it was ppr/idp keeper and was pretty entailed, too much time.

As to the original topic. I've been playing fantasy football for 17 years I think. I have made the playoffs every year in every league, except once (with the high possibility this year to miss out in 2 of 3 leagues). The one year was crazy, because I had an off-the-charts good team with a bench that could beat most teams each week. Between losing to the highest scoring team each week or having too much on my bench, I just couldn't win. So I had a "fire sale" of my team and started making 2-for-1 deals everywhere, getting the best player back in each trade. I ended up winning the last 4 games but still missing the playoffs. I tracked my team in the playoffs and I could have done a set-it-and-forget-it lineup and won every game by 25+ pts, no exaggeration. Really sucked to have far and away the best team and watch dumbasses playing in their 1st league go to the playoffs without me. I don't win them all, but I'm usually in the hunt. This year has been difficult to say the least. From 6-1 in one league to now 6-5 and playing 5-6 teams in back to back weeks who will bump me out if I lose. 12-10 in a double header league but have to at least go 1-1 this week with a good score to lock in a spot. 7-4 in the last league despite losing David Johnson to inj, Zeke to suspension and Kareem Hunt to Andy Reid's playcalling.

Exactly why 50% of the Pot should goto Total Points Race.

the more I play, the more I believe this. I played in a league where you played everybody every week, 11 game slate. I sort of liked the format, because even if you were the 2nd highest scorer you never ended up 0-1, worst you could do was 10-1. by the end of the season the highest scoring team really was the best team.

Exactly.

My 14 teamer we do both.

Head to Head and total points for the entire NFL season.

We use VP scoring. That's the exact reason I've always loved that kind of league.

12 teams, head to head play.

Winning team gets 2 points.

Then, the top 4 scoring teams that week get 2 points.

And teams that scored 5 through 8 get 1 point.

Top 6 VP scoring teams at the end of the season make the playoffs.
