edjr 5,547 Posted November 20, 2017 I think we've had the discussion before, that was years ago. Tough call for me. Thanksgiving week is a great week at work. so many people are off. Out early Wed, paid days of Thu/Fri Thanksgiving itself is amazing. Ton of food, (Turkey and Ham) drinking, good family and cards against humanity Christmas week is different always on a different day. Always out early on Xmas eve, assuming it's a weekday and typically one paid day off, sometimes 2. Opening presents, giving presents. My kid is 4, this will be his 1st ever Christmas where he is into Santa and cares about opening his own stuff. Best part of Christmas is we have the finest filet we can find and cook it medium rare. No turkey on Xmas I still am leaning towards Thanksgiving.

Gladiators 1,903 Posted November 20, 2017 Good question. Love both, but I have to go with Christmas. Seeing the houses decorated, cutting down a tree, decorating it, all the Christmas movies/music, and the general build-up to the day makes it better IMO. Also helps that I have 2 young kids that are really excited for it.
titans&bucs&bearsohmy! 2,745 Posted November 20, 2017 Im not huge fan of either much really. As a kid, it was always a fight between my divorced parents of where we went for each, and I dreaded that. Then we always ended up doing each holiday three times at different family houses. I kinda miss it now though. Christmas especially sucks here in china. Hell, I dont even get the day off. Me and the girl will put up a small tree. We arent exchanging gifts, as we have a month long vacation in February, and the wedding to pay for this summer, as well as needing to save for a summer off. supermike80 1,285 Posted November 20, 2017 Ill take Thanksgiving. Less commercialism. It really, for me, is about being with the family. Great food, drinks, cigars. Football.......No expectations of when will the presents come out and no stupid waste of space kids only caring about what's under the tree. Much more a family togetherness holiday for me

dain11279 927 Posted November 20, 2017 I was going to say Christmas originally but I think I like the buildup towards Christmas more then the day itself. The Christmas lights, music, parties I've always been into. But by the time Christmas actually rolls around you can be burnt out by it all.Thanksgiving is always a fun day. Eating and football and family all day. Can't really beat that

Artista 460 Posted November 20, 2017 Family gets together enough every week or practically every day when someone visits so you never can have time to miss anyone. And i don't care for turkey. Both holidays stress the cooks out because it's a holiday but other times its more relaxed and delicious persian dishes are served. If I had to pick 1 it'd be tgiving because that's when I used to fly down for the long weekend to chill with him and bro.
listen2me 23 1,534 Posted November 20, 2017 Thanksgiving. The roads may not be a mess of snow just yet. No worry or expectations on anyone to go and buy presents. NFL>NBA. Although I did both last year some how, there is more possibility to go out and "play golf" Thanksgiving morning more so than Christmas morning. Ideally I would rather do the hangout with more people thing on Thankgiving. And spend Christmas with just your family who lives with you.

Love Thanksgiving week - 2nd best week of the year (Masters week#1). Great points about the day vs. the season. Christmas season rocks; there is no TDay season, just a long weekend. I love the buildup and the acquiring of gifts for the family; I usually have one at least for one of my kids that I spend a lot of time researching. Doesn't need to be expensive, it is more the anticipation. Also in my industry most companies more or less shut down the last week or two of the year so whether or not I take it off, I'm basically not working, so that is a plus. Regarding the day: When my kids were young it was Christmas and not even close. I can see an argument for TDay now tho; low key, football all day, great food. vuduchile 1,940 Posted November 20, 2017 Thanksgiving is mostly about food. My kids are too picky and often destroy whatever enjoyment I derive from cooking so, Christmas is better. I still get to cook for other family members and the kids are excited about opening presents and playing with all their new stuff. This year, in addition to buying them whatever gadgets and clothes they ask for, we are redecorating each of their rooms. New paint, furniture, bedding etc. Growing up, I always had to share a room with my brother and I really hated it as I got older. My sons have their own rooms, plus a play room and a full game room in the basement. They have no idea how good they have it. But, why wouldn't we make their rooms as cool as possible if we can? nospk 230 Posted November 20, 2017 The night before Thanksgiving is the biggest bar party night of the year. Met my wife on that night, at a bar. I enjoy sitting home on Thanksgiving morning watching the parade on tv followed by football more than any part of xmas. Not to mention the food/family stuff seems more genuine on Thanksgiving than the going thru the motions of giving & getting presents, I cannot stand that. WhiteWonder 2,171 Posted November 20, 2017 thanksgiving. the overall food is better, and football. less going on than with xmas. you get together with a group of family, people take turns hosting and whatnot. beer sports and great food without having to bring gifts or receive gifts (i hate getting gifts. its more work for me to act enthusiastic. I do enjoy giving gifts though). xmas is too much... remember who I need to get a gift for, wrapping shiit, eating always seems rushed to get to gift giving. Once you're like 17 and up until you have kids I feel like xmas loses big time to turkey day.
