mark32esu 18 Posted October 1, 2017 He might be the most annoying play by play announcer I have ever heard. I cant believe I had to listen to him two games this week. Granted today was on the RZ channel but the oak/den game got a lot of coverage on it. He is terrible as an announcer.

Some people just want play by play replay, which I can understand.
gitrdun 16 Posted October 1, 2017 I like him also. 100 times better than Sims.

jimaveli 119 Posted October 1, 2017 He's living vicariously through what he's watching. He played recently so he's still connected enough to give real insight into things that are happening. I dig it even if he's almost too excited sometimes.

roroco 75 Posted October 2, 2017 He doesn't talk to the least common denominator like some. He is still a bit rough, but he reminds me a bit of Jaws who actually try to explain the game with an IQ above their playing numbers.
the s is ilent 69 Posted October 2, 2017 Love how he predicts the next play with an explanation of how said play was a good call. Good stuff. I'd like to punch Phil Simms in the throat. Tries way too hard to make a joke every chance he gets.
clean90 6 Posted October 2, 2017 I really disliked him as a player but I have been really surprised by how much I like him as an announcer. I think that he is very insightful.

Gladiators 1,904 Posted October 2, 2017 I really disliked him as a player but I have been really surprised by how much I like him as an announcer. I think that he is very insightful. I agree with this. First time I heard him, I didn't realize he was the announcer. I thought his insight was great. Was surprised to find out Romo was the announcer!
sirensong 111 Posted October 2, 2017 Simms Romo: "here is the personnel grouping and the coverage and how they're trying to disguise it and why. here's how offenses react to that kind of scheme, and what that means moving forward." Simms: "5 players come out of the game, and 5 other guys come in."
sirensong 111 Posted October 2, 2017 I bet he is really good at madden. according to nantz, romo announced a lot of online madden games as practice leading up to the season. then he started playing (obviously anonymously), and shredded some of the top-50 players in the game. i'll try to dig up the interview. thePRO 78 Posted October 2, 2017 Guess we'll have a new Romo thread every week? He's fine. Better than a lot. If you don't like him, let's move on.
tanatastic 2,061 Posted October 2, 2017 You are alone. Romo is being touted left and right as amazing color commentary and a natural in the booth. Hes freaking awesome and has displayed wizard like knowledge of the game every time he is on.
seafoam1 1,879 Posted October 2, 2017 We will at some point have have a prime Al Michaels, Enberg at some point, but never a Howard Cosell, or Pat Summerall ever again.

jimaveli 119 Posted October 2, 2017 Nice. That's funny to think that Tony is lurking around beating up on those money play olympic superstars.

track 1 16 Posted October 3, 2017 Its his FIRST season announcing games with zero experience in the booth. He is amazing for his first year
Cruzer 1,992 Posted October 3, 2017 Romo spent years getting kicked and the balls, blasted and being on the ass end of jokes as a player. It only seems natural he's excited and eager to prove his mettle as a genuine, intelligent, football mind. Barely a few weeks into a job he's never experienced - I'd say he's doing a fantastic job. He still has a lot to learn, still a lot to get comfortable with - but he's on the fast track for sure.

Fantasy Bum 1 Posted October 7, 2017 I think he is doing great. Love his knowledge and insight pre-snap on what teams are trying to do. Makes other color commentators seem clueless like Phil Simms . Yeah, he gets a little over-excited sometimes as if he is physically on the field, but I don't mind that.

stonewall 647 Posted October 7, 2017 Although I have never disliked Romo, nor do I now, I can pass on his announcing.....a little too much schoolgirl breathless excitement for me. ...and in his Thursday night game, he missed a few pre-snap "predictions".....and if his predictions become his M.O., then he will eventually look quite foolish as the game moves on without him in the know.
