Unbelievable was by EMF

Ooops. You're right. I was thinking of Right Here Right Now. Always confused those two. I'll change it.

Coming in at # 33 is REMs Losing My Religion and that is the best song in the top 100.

Jesus Jones' Right Here Right Now is a good 2nd choice.

* REMs Shiny Happy People at # 100 is good value in a fantasy music league.

Also, somebody will probably mention Divinyls Touch Myself as a most popular tune.

* I got help on that thought.

Back in the 1989 poll, I ran into my first top 20 song that I had to look up. Well, I had to look up 3 of this top ten list. I'm not sure what happened to music by this point, but it was dreadful.

One More Try, I Like The Way, and The First Time were the three I had to look up. I do remember hearing all three now that I've listened again, but they are all total crap. Very forgettable. Rush Rush by Paula Abdul is pretty lightweight too. I just remember Keanu Reeves being in the video. Now onto the ones that are worth discussing....

I Wanna Sex You Up was actually a fun listen. Good harmonies and a decent melody. EMF's Unbelievable was a huge hit at the time and had a different sound than most of the stuff on the airwaves in '91. I actually thought these guys were going to go somewhere. I was wrong. I was a big Bryan Adams fan in the 80's, but Everything I Do was just a little bit too cutesy and lovey. I may have liked it more if it was done by Micheal Bolton or someone. But with Adams, it felt like a sellout.

I had a mini-crush on Amy Grant around this time. Baby Baby and Every Heartbeat were cute songs with even cuter videos. I even had the CD. lol

To me, this decision is between Extreme and C+C MUsic Factory. As an acoustic guitarist, I really appreciate the simple structure of More Than Words. I can still listen to it to this day. But my vote is going to Gonna Make You Sweat. It's still a dance classic today and I can always count on it to pack the dance floor.

In a league filled with crappy songs by good bands.

Agreed, although I'll throw Unbelievable into the mix. Also went with Gonna Make You Sweat. Fond memories of the years right out of college at the dance clubs.

Between EMF and Extreme. Extreme was easily Gary Cherone's best work.

Any time you can mention Nuno Bettencourt's greatness, you have to. :music_guitarred:

Songs 11-20:

Motownphilly- Boyz II Men

Because I Love You (The Postman Song)- Stevie B

Someday- Mariah Carey

High Enough- Damn Yankees

From a Distance- Bette Midler

All The Man That I Need- Whitney Houston

Right Here Right Now- Jesus Jones

I Adore Mi Amore- Color Me Badd

Love Will Never Do (Without You)- Janet Jackson

Good Vibrations- Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch

Would have voted High Enough if this was in the top ten. Nugent, Shaw, and Blades.

And Janet Jackson never looked better than she did in the 'Love Will Never Do' video. Filmed in black and white on the beach. I wanted her real bad.

There are only 2 songs on this list worthy of MY vote...

"Everything I Do" ~ Bryan Adams :first:

"More Than Words" ~ Extreme

And even though MTW's might be a better song, I like "Everything I Do" much more.

Ok, let's see if we can find a few gems bubbling under the top twenty to keep this year from being a total disaster:

Joyride- Roxette

I've Been thinking About You- Londonbeat

Losing My Religion- REM

Summertime- Will Smith

Winds Of Change- Scorpions

Hole Hearted- Extreme

I Touch Myself- The Divinyls

Something To Talk About- Bonnie Raitt

Now That We Found Love- Heavy D & The Boyz

Show Me The Way- Styx

Signs- Tesla

Something To Believe in- Poison

Wicked Game- Chris Isaak

Silent Lucidity- Queensryche

Rico Suave- Gerardo

Groove Is In The Heart- Deee-Lite

OPP- Naughty By Nature

Freedom '90- George Michael

Shiny Happy People- REM

I was out in clubs a lot this year and it was actually a decent year for dance tunes. C+C Music Factory, Black Box, Naughty By Nature, Deee-Lite.....some good stuff there.

Topped by their 1992 release of Man On The Moon which is my favorite REM song of all time and certainly an overall top 40 song of ALL TIME.

As a big REM fan, Shiny Happy People sounds like a freaking Partridge Family song and I'm ashamed that it's even in their catalog.

Agreed. Why did they always release the worst songs on their albums as singles? Losing My Religion wasnt awful, but Shiny Happy People? Stand? :shudder: Country Feedback is such a brilliant song and most of the world probably has never even heard it.

Micheal Stipe smiling in the video for Shiny Happy People always creeped me out.

The creepy factor is equalled only by the Kooky Michael Stipe Dance in "Losing My Religion" video.

Voted Bryan Adams and happy he was there. It's a pretty good song. As we get further into this muscially gawdawful decade, I expect anything decent will be stamped out.

I predict this poll's winner will get zero votes in the Best of the 90's poll. ;)

You may be wrong, we're getting worse and worse, not better and better.

How about:

"Enter Sandman" - Metallica

"Smells like teen spirit" - Nirvana
