High Stakes leagues

Recommended Posts

I am really considering trying one of the high-stakes national contests like the FBG Players Championships, AntSports, NFFC, etc., but I am unsure which one to try. I do not want to spend that much money then be totally disappointed. Any biased or unbiased, vested or detached opinions will help. I am leaning towards the FootballGuys contest since they are a name I have known and trusted for quite a while but if there is a better one out there I will show no loyalty. Thanks in advance.

I am looking to play in one or more myself. Not the $1,000+ entry fee leagues, but more moderate in the $250-$500 range, online league. I played in WCOFF back in its first two years of existence and played RotoBowl (now RosterDoc) a couple years too, but not last year. I don't have too much recent experience to draw on. I do like the vibe I get from the guys who run FFPC however, and they are running the FBG Players Championship. It seems to me you can't go too wrong with FFPC, WCOFF or NFFC, assuming they have a league format and price point you are interested in.

I would suggest the NFFC online championship it is a $350 entry fee with $50,000 grand prize Greg and Tom run a great contest plus they have KDS which is were you rank your draft order prefference along with 3rr which is where the third round reverses order it starts with pick 12 again like the second round so their is much more strategy involved.

Let me know what you guys decide, I'd like to play in a big money league too.

I have narrowed it down to either NFFC or FBG Players Championship. $350 is about my max to spend. Or should I say all my wife will let me! Going to do some comparisons today.

I'm playing in the FBG/FFPC for the reasons you already mentioned. Full escrow of winnings, $350 entry fee, fast pay-out with 80% (or better) pay-out in prizes. I trust that site to do what some only promise.

You had better be projections oriented tho...FPPC has "power scoring" and 1PPR for RBs and WRs and 1.5 PPR for TEs. So it is a little funky, but I think it will be fun. I'm already registered and my league is filled (I'm drafting #5), so I'd like to know who from this site will be competing for the big money.

It would be nice to see who from this site advances the furthest.

I'd like to throw my own contest out there. I'm a startup with my advertising about to start rolling out.

$100 a team, prize fund in an escrow and guaranteed.

Prizes are growing.

Only Playoff Cutline out there.

All drafts online.

League payouts in November.

Skins Challenges.

That being said, FFPC is very reputable if you want to spend more money. I'd be a little cautious with the NFFC as Fanball has had some major turnover and had issues with their FFOC contest last year and payouts. I don't know too much about the WCOFF. I know people who play there and haven't heard of any issues.

Maybe all the guys willing to play a higher stakes game can join a league together. I know this guy named Q. Lazarrus that can hold the money for you.

I too am doing the WCOFF for the first time ever this year. They had our "draft position show" online on the WCOFF last night and I drew the #9 spot. ugghhhh!!!

I also signed up for Aaron's PFFWC site and have drafted a team there already. It is going through its growing pains right now but I think it's eventually going to be one of the best online contests out there. The format is like the FFOC but he isn't going to skip town like our buddy Stan :)

Hi playprov1. The link you want is http://myffpc.com/ . Check the various contests they offer to see what fits best for you. mfm is referring to the Footballguys (FBG) Players Championship which is the upper-left box on that page.

Guys please stay away from the AFFL. These clowns have not paid out prizes for 2009 and are planning to open registrations for 2010:

AVOID AFFL

Agree on the AFFL comment. People, do not join that contest. To my knowledge - admittedly not first hand - they have not paid out the winners from their 2009 contest. It is unbelievable to me they've made an announcement they plan to open registrations for 2010.

Why the Super Satellite vs. the Online Championship at WCOFF? I'm confused by all of these options.

Not high stakes, but FlaHawker, did you get your t-shirt for winning a RapidDraft league last year? I just got mine last week. My wife's comment: "You aren't wearing that." Ha. Can't say I disagree with her.

The WCOFF Super Satellite League IIhas been created after the first Super Sat filled up. You might want to check this league out. Only 144 teams in the league battling for a grand prize of $10,000. Entry fee of $350. I joined! :headbanger:

Yea piggybacking off of Mikes comment...I did think about joining this league, however it's $50 more for the entry than the World Online Championship, and the only difference is there is an extra 1K up for grabs to the team that has the best regular season record OVERALL...other than that it's exactly the same payouts for the each league as well as the overall 10k prize...

To me it seems the World Online is a better play, however I guess with the super sat league you have a cap at 144 teams so it's less teams to play against overall, which I can see the appeal for that. No tellin how many people will be in the World Online...

Mike,

Yes I got my shirts several weeks ago. LOL at the wife's comment! I've worn them. They don't hold up well after washing though <_<

I was listening to the fantasy show on XM/Sirius yesterday and they were interviewing someone from Rapiddraft. He metnioned that they are using a Joe Namath avatar this year and if I heard correctly, did he say it was free to play with a grand prize of $100,000? :dunno:

One of the attractive features for me was the cap of 144 teams. Also, the 12 league winners and 4 wildcard teams advance to an interesting playoff format:

Each of the playoff teams will be seeded based on their total fantasy points for the regular season. The 2009 Super Satellite Saturday playoffs will extend four additional weeks, from NFL Week 13 through NFL Week 16 in a tournament style format.

# 1 Seed vs. #16 Seed

#2 Seed vs. #15 Seed

#3 Seed vs. #14 Seed

#4 Seed vs. #13 Seed

#5 Seed vs. #12 Seed

#6 Seed vs. #11 Seed

#7 Seed vs. #10 Seed

#8 Seed vs. #9 Seed

This really attracted me. If you are good enough to make the playoffs you have a 1 in 16 shot of winning $10,000. I know some of the other contests have more money at stake, but there are more teams involved and it is strictly total points. I like the head to head style.

Anyone putting up the $1450 for the main event? I think I'm gonna do that one. :pointstosky:

Not this year. Maybe next. They hold a draft in Orlando, and although it won't be Vegas, it would be very convenient.

Hey FlaHawker, I am doing the main event for the WCOFF in Orlando this year. If you change your mind and do it this season put up a message on here. Or even if you're gonna do it next season. I'm doing it for the convenience factor too since I live in Lakeland.

It's actually $1,950 ($1,800 entry and $150 "event fee"). Unless you are getting some kind of discount. <_<

But I'm in!

Are you sure about the prize structure Ross? I'm looking at it now and for "World Online Championship" it says first overall prize is a "Gold Passport". Does not say (that I can see), option for $10,000 cash or any other amount.

More importantly, does anyone know how many teams were in the World Online Championship last year?

There is a price difference between the two. It is $350 for the Super Satellite and $300 for the Online Championship, but obviously the number of expected teams plays a big factor on which is a better value.

Will report back if I find it.

Doing a little digging around the site and forum, it seems that Super Satellite I is sold out. They started a Super Satellite II.

WCOOFF (sounds like someone getting punched in the gut) had 624 in 2008, "over 600" in 2009 and as of July 5th they indicated on the message board 112 were sold at that time. Another message board post questioned why WCOOFF entries seemed slower this year than last.

Hey Mike I think I found the prize structure:

World Online Championship

Entry Fee - $300

- 12 teams per league

- Overall Award - $10,000

- League Awards - (1st - Main Event Entry, Events Fee, 1 night hotel for the 2011 WCOFF Main Event or $2,000 cash award / 2nd $300)

- Best regular season overall - $1,000

With a 10% rake, the winner taking all the proceeds, and the obviously poor opponent selection, it seems to me like there's a much better place to gamble... The office $100 league seems like a serious upgrade.

I'd want some clarity on that, because it does not exactly match this:

http://www.wcofs.com/site/wcoff/wcooffpreseason

See point 20, Award Breakdown, near the bottom.

I hear what you are saying c9h13no3. The pros of these high stakes contests over a local league are:

1. chance at a big payout

2. operated by someone else

3. don't need to find players to play against, which could be a little tough in a local setting at a higher than normal dollar amount

4. entertainment/networking, especially if attending a live event

For some the rake will be worth it, and for others it won't. A lot of work and expense goes into making these things happen, so I can't really begrudge the operators for taking their cut.

Yea Rapiddraft is free to play this year and the the grand prize is $100K. Drafts should be starting up shortly. Joe Namath has a new website and they will represent one of the pros that you'll draft against. I was lucky enough to win the contest last year so I get to do the rankings for their avatar "Zach". Considering its free I think you'd be crazy to not draft at least one team.

That was one of the big reasons I entered the super sat and not the online championship or the FBG's contest. Plus I like the head to head playoff matchups they set up. I would rather take my chances there (if I make the playoffs) than in a total points league.

I heard rapiddraft is moving to a free team setup, but then you have to buy moves for 99 cents. I guess they are going the iTunes plan.

99 is to get the one you want instead of following their waver whatever, If you max out your teams I doubt you need to do it except maybe late when you think you might have the chance for the 100k. Also 20 player rosters is pretty deep not to say surprises can't happen.

They haven't shared any info with me on why it's free this year. I just assume they're trying to build up their user base. I think World Fantasy Games holds other contests that you might be able to use your points in...but not sure on that. You could maybe even use them next year in Rapiddraft if they go back to charging a fee. As for free agent pickups I took this from their rules:

The free agent request deadline each week is Wednesday at 8pm CT. All free agents added before the Wednesday night deadline are added free of charge.

NEW THIS YEAR – 99 CENT FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE (FCFS) FREE AGENT ACQUISITION – as a convenience, Participants may pick-up free agents on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday if the player they are adding/dropping is not beyond their weekly start/bench deadline. There are no limits to the number of FCFS Free Agents added each week - $0.99 each.

FCFS Free Agent Acquisitions are available during the regular season and post-season portions of RapidDraft Fantasy Football.

No purchase is required to play RapidDraft Fantasy Football. 99 Cent FCFS Free Agents are totally optional. Participants can field their entire team by adding free agents, free of charge, by using the pre-Wednesday night free agent process.
