What I learned on my Baltimore/DC Trip

Recommended Posts

Start with the football/fans/Dave and Busters.

Wow. I think every black person male or female watch Ravens games in D&B in Hanover MD. And they do not like white folks and Giants fans.

(1 son wearing Giants jersey and other son wearing Boston hat - we love Boston too).

We had to be escorted out of there by the Hanover police department - for our own good. WOW.

House of Cards is a good show and I only am on S1E05

Both Baltimore and DC have a huge homeless problem. Maybe it's as bad as my NYC and I don't notice it enough but it was very evident to me in both cities.

Outskirts of DC is as bad as a ghetto as there is (I knew this but had a bad experience this time to bring it to the forefront - and kids to see it ) Sad.

Section between Harbor and Fells point went from warehouses to yuppie city. I knew from last trip building up but it reality 100% transformation.

Chick-Fil A is the real deal. Had one next to hotel and ate there 3 times and took a bag for the road. Cheap and delicious. This one had 15-20 cars at the drive through all day. All hours. Packed.

Fells Point.

Eat Mussles. Love Berthas Mussles.

Green Turtle for nostalgia. Actually have a GT in our neighborhood but not the same as Fells Point GT.

Hard Rock Cafe (DC) under construction with limited menu and limited seating (wish we never wasted our time but we were starving !!)

Zoo was kinda a bust as many attractions not on site but what do you expect for free !!! Pandas were worth the trip !!!! (Pay for parking Zoo free) !

This is no way a negative post. We are going back for the Cherry Blossoms.

There may be more.

tl;dr

Suck my peemus

So you hit Dave and Busters, Chik Fil A, Green turtle and Hard Rock Cafe ... no time for Applebee's or Ruby Tuesday?

Yeah, I look at it like pepper on mashed potatoes. A little sprinkle looks nice and gives it a little flavor. Too much and the potatoes are ruined. I stay away when the herd is assembled. Dealt with them in their element for a long time. I know the deal.

Kids we pumped to go in. But even before we entered wife said guys don't be shocked if we leave very soon (they don't see color which is awesome).

Day after - they "saw color" - cannot shelter that. Both were no way I'm going back there.

It is what it is.

It was a joke Clarence.

He's right about both DC and Baltimore being mostly ghetto. They remind me of Philly.

BTW I am most likely more traveled then half of you. Maybe not international but I have been all over this great country and I am trying to give my kids the same experience. Different cultures everywhere.

Dude we love it there as much as Boston and we try to go there every two years alternating (except DC has been a while).

The most negative point was son that gets migraines - got one on day 2 so we extended the trip a day to make up for it.

Honestly worst part was in Dave and Busters. Eye opener. Sh!t went wrong I could not protect my family and that was scary. Glad the police intervened when they did.

Have another Baltimore story for you tomorrow. !!'

i can get D&B for the kids, but when we travel we try to expose our daughter to regional specialties/known local restaurants.

Bring them to The Big Easy. You'll never experience that here.

Except for the inner harbor, Baltimore is a shithole. Ditto for DC. Except for the mall area/K street etc., it's a complete dump

Most cities I've been to are sh1tholes other than the downtown tourist / financial districts.

Well, I think I did suggest not hitting Baltimore and instead trying Annapolis......less of a sh!hole for sure, and the people are not absolute trash like you find in Baltimore...

It's been years since I went to Baltimore. Used to live in Columbia, Maryland for a couple years. Went to Baltimore and D.C. While we lived there. What I do remember was both places being sh1t holes

They are....with pockets of tourist-based pleasantry.....

The people who live there are the problem, they are filth.....

True, and the places that aren't sh1tholes are rather uninteresting. You really have to screw it up not to love a weekend in DC.

That's where we stayed. Columbia. Nice area.

And Nope never even knew Chick Fil was a thing.

D&B was supposed to be fun for football game and for the kids. Bad idea.

Chick place was for quick lunch usually while driving to locations.

Son collects Hard Rock shirts so we visit one in every city we visit

We ate in plenty of other - non chain - places with good experiences.

Why I am explaining myself to you I have no idea.

You did. We only spent one evening in Balt (Fells Point - berthas) rest of time spent in DC.

I really am surprised. They have the best dam chicken nuggets. When we tailgate we usually stop by and get a tray of them. Chic fil a is like a nicer fast food restaurant. Workers there are always nice, well dressed, and don't look fockin ratchet. It's one of the very few places that makes sure the employees are presentable and the restaurant is clean.

I went to one once while my car was being worked on, and one of their guys kept talking to me. I think he wanted me to become religious. :(

Was stationed in DC years ago, had a couple nice spots, Georgetown and NE DC are nice, South East is pure hood and dangerous after sundown. Maryland around inner harbor, Annopolis and Bethesda/Silver Spring area are nice but not a whole lot to see being a tourist. Also if you went a bit further south to Arlington and Alexandria are really nice places. But yeah any immediate area around the mall is ghetto.
