Is the Saints Defense a Fluke

Recommended Posts

Or are they turning things around and full steam ahead? They've had three good games in a row after a bad start.

Any insiders know if this is for real, or if they're playing above their heads.

They were ferocious on Sunday.

I drafted the Saints D, I expected or hoped for this earlier. They have a nice 2 game stretch coming up.

They are running a lot of stunts, Cam Jordan has been playing out of his mind, and Lattimore is the real deal.

Lions fan here.

We made the Saints D look good. The league has figured out Cooter Ball and most fans are already getting tired of James Robert Vagina's "offense".

They were all over every play call and knew where Stafford was throwing the ball on almost every play. D-Lineman would pull up and bat balls with perfect timing. We always run the exact same plays out of certain formations. FB in the game - run up the middle. Riddick in, pass play with Riddick running an angle route. 3-wide, Tate crossing route and Jones is the deep man.. Same old story. Once defensive co-ordinators get enough game tape they eat us alive. Same thing happened when we had Lombardi.

Cooter needs to change things up over the bye or we can kiss the division goodbye after it was dropped in our laps.

The saints have two cornerstone CBs in Lattimore and Crawley who are grading out as top 10 guys. And you have a dominant edge rusher in Cam Jordan. Their LBs is the worst part and most susceptible part of there defense. But those CBs are giving em time to make plays

I am tempted, but def TDs are exception. Also, there are just so many good D out performing, no need to risk it with the Saints.

Is Balt (@ Mia) or NO (vs Chi) a better play Week 8?

Brandon Williams should be back for bmore by then. Their defense will get a huge boost. I plan to use them week 8 for that matchup.

That would be one reason to discount the performance of the Saints D against DET. I'm wondering about another which is that Stafford scored his 2nd highest FPs of the season against NO, threw for his highest yardage total, and his 2nd highest TD total.

Honestly, I was shocked when I saw his stat line after the game. Stafford played like and he still threw for 312 and 3 TDs. All of his INTs were off of tipped balls (see my previous post) and his fumbles were due to his limited mobility because of high ankle sprain/hamstring injuries he was playing through.

Another thing is that we were down to 2 OL starters (Swanson and Glasgow) by the start of the 4th quarter. Lang (RG) didn't play at all, Robinson (LT) got hurt in the 3rd and Wagner (RT) got hurt in the 4th, then his backup got hurt worse (same guy also got blown up so bad that he got thrown into our backup guard's leg and hurt him, se we were down to 3rd string RG) so Wagner had to come back and play on a bad knee/ankle to finish the game. Fells (our 2nd string TE) was next man up if there were any more injuries to the OL.

Quick detour from the thread and then we'll get right back...

Sorry that Golden Tate will miss some time, ianmidd. What are your thoughts about Marvin Jones and Kenny Golladay as they try to shoulder more of the load for these next few weeks ?

Losing Tate is going to really hurt.

I like Marvin Jones, but he's not the consistent downfield threat they thought they were getting. He can't seem to get separation consistently enough. Whether it's talent or scheme is debatable. With Tate down and likely to miss a few weeks he might see a slight uptick in production. The other guys that might be viable for bye week flex fill ins are TJ Jones and Jared Abbrederis (sp?). They will likely platoon the slot in place of Tate.

We really haven't seen enough of Golladay to know what he might be. I picked up Golladay off the WW before week 1 (didn't start him week 1 though  ), then had to drop him due to other roster needs. He has the tools to be a good downfield and red zone threat, but he's only played 1.5 regular season games so far. If you have the space on your bench he's worth stashing since he's likely to return week 8 after the bye. I'm probably going to try to get him back if possible within the next 2 weeks.

I personally am trying to get the Saints DST off WW this week. Dropping the Redskins for them if I can get them as I'm not "super" trusting of the Steelers vs the improved Bengals offense this week. But the Saints are for real.

Whole game last week all i thought was the offensive line of the lions stinks so bad they make the Saints defense look good, they couldnt move my wife. They have nothing to get Ameer Abdulah in space. Barry Sanders with this line would be no better then Abdullah, trust me he even needed holes or put Scott Mitchelle in second and longs which was his 1 bad element.

They have scored 18, 20 and 38 in the last 3 weeks in my league. I picked them up and dropped the skins. Literally any of those numbers they have put up in the last 3 weeks would be fine for me.

I grabbed Pitt off waivers, I don't know what to think of the saints, 3 weeks and TDs aren't consistent enough for me to buy although I like them this week. I'm trusting the numbers over 6 weeks for now.

the correlation with the saints improvement goes along with lattimore entering the lineup. i dont think they are a fluke. a legit #1 corner can really improve a defense. that said not sure i would drop someone like pitt for them. steelers have been very consistent all year. high floor defense.

I dropped KC for them and am not looking back. They have played well for 3consecutive weeks, get plenty of sacks, turnovers, and more importantly, tds. They won me over.
