jerryskids 5,172 Posted February 21, 2018 My son asked me what I would do if he got suspended for walking out or disciplined for walking out. I told him Id ask him why he did it...if he could explain that he understood why and had a sound reason...what the school would do would be punishment enough. If he didn't understand and was just doing it because friends were...then my wife and I would be doling out our own punishment as well. I like this answer. Apparently it hasn't hit my kid's school, that I know of anyway.

Mike Honcho 4,010 Posted February 21, 2018 So the Parkland kids went to the Florida State capital yesterday, asking that a ban on AR-15 be debated. The state legislature voted 71-36 Tuesday against a measure to consider a ban on semi-automatic weapons, but they declared pornography to be public health risk. frank 2,144 Posted February 22, 2018 1. The right to protest is very important and people should use it when they feel something is wrong. 2. 99% of protests are just a combination of "look at me" and people feeling self-important while deluding themselves into thinking it will make a difference. tubby_mcgee 686 Posted February 22, 2018 They should be reprimanded however they would be reprimanded any other day for walking out of school unexcused. "Protesting" or "I'm mad" or "I'm gonna do what the other kids do" isn't a valid excuse.
Drizzay 644 Posted February 22, 2018 I'm torn on this. Kids generally overract and latch on to the "soup du jour" without really thinking about what they are getting beind. At the same time, protests are a fundamental right and sometimes can offer a much better civics lesson than what you can get in school. So if it at least gets them active in local politics, I am all for it.

The poor kids already have to grow up listening to dad rant about deep state and Seth rich all day every day. Hell, they wont eveb be allowed to go to pizza parties. Voltaire 4,555 Posted February 22, 2018 The plan was to ship the kids off around the world for school? We don't have a plan. All the options are bad. But that was one under consideration, yes.
