Salt and Pepper packets

Recommended Posts

How come there is too much salt in a salt packet and not enough pepper in a pepper packet ?

WTF

That's a totally random topic and I've never really thought of it before but I totally agree with you on it. That does aggravate me too because I put pepper on damn near anything and hardly ever use salt.

And can someone please tell me why hot dogs come in packages of eight, while rolls come in packages of eight? Inevitably your aunt Elaine is on Atkins again and just wants the dogs, so you end up wasting a couple of rolls (or putting them in the freezer). Who are the marketing geniuses that came up with this idea? :dunno:

Now that you have figured out that a packet contains less pepper than you desire, may I suggest the bold, empowering act of picking up multiple pepper packets.

I ignore the frozen dinner instructions to vent the green beans by piercing the plastic covering. I have done this for years and nothing bad has ever happened. It feels great to stick it to corporate America with a little contempt and maverick action. Try it.

Better questions, at pizza restaurants, how come the red pepper packet is always so full (usually use 1 packet on 3 pieces) and the parmesan cheese packet doesn't even cover half of one slice?

I have always envisioned an exploding microwave and subsequent house fire with the fire cheif and arson investigator both shaking their heads and glaring at me as they hold the Banquet TV dinner tray.

You got balls, brother. Huge.

I have a theory about people who add salt to food... it's a learned behavior and has less to do with taste and more to do with habit. Most salt adders do it before they even taste the food being served to them. Doesn't matter if the food needs it or not, they salt it either way. They grew up around parents or others who did it and simply mimic the behavior.

I was totally this way. My mom (RIP) wasn't a very good cook; basically our "spice" was to salt the heck out of everything.

Then I started dating my now wife who is a very good cook; I started to pre-salt her food and she didn't like it, so I stopped.

I still prefer things salter than she does, and I usually end up adding a little salt after a courtesy taste. But not always. :)

Hold on a second here folks. The packets are NOT the biggest problem our society faces when it comes to salt and pepper distribution.

We should not waste one more second on the packet issue while 90% of the restaurants in this world continue to overfill both salt and pepper shakers, effectively rendering them useless. Our efforts need to be focused on making sure ALL shakers have the proper amount of negative space to allow adequate breathing room.

I think you are right. We never used salt in my family. In fact, I don't think I've ever used salt on anything in my life.

Once a guest asked for salt. Mom went and found the salt shaker. It had been in there so long the salt was yellowed and caked together.

For many that is probably true but not me. My folks and my in-laws simply do not use salt in cooking for whatever reason. So yeah I have to salt it a little when I eat with them and I don't even like salt that much (try to limit my sodium intake). But you gotta have SOME salt or its bland as fock

Give me packets any day of the month. I'd just as soon not touch those communal condiment dispensers with a 10-foot pole. :nono:

My inlaws barely use spice or seasoning in anything they cook. It drives me nuts. I tell my wife that she is alergic to flavor. Her dad at least likes certain things with flavor, but her and her mom are picky as hell. Her dad is still odd though. We had them over for dinner so we made baked nekked chicken tenders and put them on a pretzel bun. Then we added bacon to the sandwich. Her dad, who loves bacon and chicken was like "Oh i have never had bacon on top of chicken before. I dont know if i will like it." Dude... just eat it. You will like it.

Today, "Oh i have never had avocado and turkey together before. I dont know if i will like it."

Back to salt, i only use it to flavor my cooking. I almost never put it on after its already done. I hate that super salty taste unless i am eating a pretzel.

If you want to really blow his mind, and turn his world upside down. Give him a Reeses peanut butter cup.
