Chiefs release Jamaal Charles

The Chiefs have decided to release running back Jamaal Charles, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

 

I'd expect him to land a one-year deal somewhere... Eagles perhaps?

I have a hunch that he might retire (to assume another role) instead of playing this season.

His knee is not in good shape.

He should retire IMO. Stay as healthy as possible for the long run.

well, at this point it IS all about the knee.

 

if they were able to fix the issues, and if he passes a physical, he is young enough that I think he has one more good year in him.

 

but I doubt he will get more than a 1 or 2 year deal.

 

a 2 year deal may be doable if the guaranteed money is low.

Picked him second round. Can't win a championship in the first couple rounds but you sure can lose it with a horrible pick.

Oh yeah, the knee is the big issue. I know he had a 2nd surgery at some point last season so that's not a good sign.

A big concern is, outside of the health, how much has this slowed him down?

I can't help but think it's slowed him a little. Charles is a player so dependent on his speed that he doesn't have much to lose before he's just not an NFL RB.
