That being said, I don't understand how CNN, MSNBC, and the like think that calling everyone that doesn't agree with you politically a racist homophobic nazi fascist will do anything but enflame not just the rights base but EVERYONE leaning right at all.

 

I would say the vast vast majority of the right hates racism and laughs and scoffs and these so called nazi hate groups.

The democrats base for the last 60 or so years were lower and middle class working people. Over time they expanded to include minorities and other people out of the mainstream. (Gays). At the same time many wealthy college educated elites became the face of the party, and set the tone. Now, because they are elitists and many from wealthy backgrounds, it was very easy for them to embrace Wall Street and corporatism, as they didn't view them with suspicion as the leaders who emerged from the labor movement did.
