Fitchburg basketball player flattens opponent with cheap shot; Hate crime?

Recommended Posts

Probably battery, but not a hate crime. I don't think he called him a cracka or did it because the kid was white. He did it because he thought he was fouled on the other end when he took a 3, but there was no call.

How would the MSM handle this had it been a white guy doing it to a black guy?

NOT a hate crime. For God's sake....we should not allow ourselves to devolve into the same space as these idiots who apply race to every god blessed thing under the sun.

Kid needs to be held accountable for his actions, regardless of his race, religion, hair color, dietary preferences, political affiliations....any of the dumbarse sh!t we hear from CNN and their ilk.

Just hold the kid accountable for the action and move on, jesusfuckingchrist.....

I agree with RLLD, just hold this piece of garbage accountable for his actions and move on.

Look up "Grayson Allen".

I think that kid has some issues that therapy might help.... I think he might be a mess mentally and emotionally, someone who could "crack" with really worrisome outcomes....

If he's willing to do this in front of a crowd what does he do when nobody is watching?

He is young and dumb, as we all were at some point. We have an opportunity to address that very concern, hopefully the coach and school do that very thing.

I DO NOT believe he should be kicked off of the team or out of the school, that is pure stupidity. I DO think he should be held firmly and emphatically accountable. Yes a short suspension, maybe the time regularly at practice spent with community service, an act that should continue well past his return to the team and practice.

Bottom line, we do not crush him up and throw him away like leftist retards, we help him grow and become a better person.

It depends. He is a transfer student and may have some baggage already. We don't have the whole story. I don't think the school is appreciating that they are known nationally for having the dude that cold-cocked another player in a game. If they don't deal with him firmly, they will face some backlash.

Definitely hold him accountable, though and, if this is his first transgression, see how you can keep him in the fold with an appropriate punishment.

I just heard something the other day and I laughed my ass off

this year alone there have been a whopping 7000 reported hate crimes this year, now that over 1000 additional law enforcement agencies have submitted statistics to the DOJ

a whole 7000, we should really get on this

I thought America was racist

I say work with him, he likely has value, punish him for sure, but too often we see people call for removal etc....I am not down with that.....kids deserve and need mentoring, sometimes fixing....if the outcome of this unfortunate event is only to hurt the kid, we are wasting our time and his potential.....

I thought America was racist

That is what elements of society desperately want you to believe. Having a grievance is the "in" thing, people want to have others placate them. Let's not be like "those that use race as a weapon", we should demonstrate the sickness in the race card baiting game by avoiding it entirely, show people how to handle a situation, without using race to rile people up.

I shudder to think of his potential if you don't punish him accordingly (slap on the wrist for what looks like felony assault).

Student athletes already have an entitled sense about them which leads a number of them to criminal acts. Punishment isn't only for the offender; it's also for others as a deterrent.

Punish, then instruct and mentor.....do we think jettisoning him from the team or the school fixes him? I do not think it will....

Of course its not a hate crime.

However, ask yourself, if the races were reversed would you feel the same? Would the media?

There likely would be some attempt to paint it that way, that is the go to and we need to know that. CNN would absolutely use it if they could in that way. Which is why those of us with rational thought need to not allow ourselves to devolve into "its always about race".

What a b!tch move. Trading blows occasionally during a game isn't all that unusual or egregious. Suspensions would normally be in order for that. But sucker elbowing that kid was way over the line. Kick him off the team and let law enforcement and the courts handle it from there.

You should know that was my intention with this thread i.e. show how the media will use race to keep us divided.

But punishment is not always about fixing someone. It's making sure that person doesn't do that again and if cut from team and expelled he won't (at least on a basketball team).

This. The counselors that work for the state can attempt to save this kid while he is on probation.

Using your elbow in that fashion is how you attempt to really hurt someone, completely exposed after releasing a jumper, much worse than a punch even.

This. And if the school decides to kick him out, fock him. Im sure schools kick students out for assault all the time.

https://whdh.com/news/totally-unacceptable-fitchburg-state-basketball-player-apologizes-after-attacking-opposing-player/

Platt apologized on social media

“I hereby want to apologize and show my deep regret upon my actions that occurred during the game against Nichols College the other night,” Platt wrote. “What I did is totally unacceptable and not justified in any way. I got frustrated and lost control over my behavior. I know these words cannot undo my wrongdoing. In the future, I promise to make better choices.”

“I’m not only apologizing to Nate Tenaglia,” he continued, “but also to my teammates, the coaching staff, the University, and the whole basketball community.”

A Fitchburg State player has been indefinitely suspended from his team and barred from campus as a result of a vicious cheap shot he delivered late in Tuesday’s loss to fellow Massachusetts Division III school Nichols College.

Did your mom tell you to go play in the street?

Not very good, like 1 star out of five...

Better would have been 'Did your mom tell you to WORK the streets?'

It was okay. Maybe 'Were you playing on the same street where your mom worked'?

Interesting quotes in this local article

http://www.lowellsun.com/breakingnews/ci_32271952/fsu-basketball-player-suspended-over-vicious-hit-opponent

Back on the Fitchburg campus, the administration's quick response was applauded.

Nursing student Michelle Lombardo, 18, said the school made the right decision to expel Platt. "He assaulted someone, I don't want him on campus, no."

The elbow check generated negative publicity, but isn't reflective of the university, Evangeline Cakounes, 19, said.

"It's unfortunate, but it could have happened anywhere, I don't think it's a reflection of Fitchburg State," she said.

If the roles were reversed it would be a hate crime without a doubt.
