Kids n surgery...

Recommended Posts

Been hanging out at the local surgery center waiting for my 16yr olds knee surgery. They are cleaning the cartilage under the kneecap and possible lateral release surgery.

Doctor is cool, gave us a good pre talk etc.

My complaints...

Whether your surgery is 6 am or 3 pm they always say.. no food or drink after midnight.

My daughter is getting pretty fockin hangry lol. Just went under the knife about 3pm. I could see her telling the doc to fock off.

Our appointment was for 12. She sat in waiting room 2 hours... then in prep for an hour...

Shitty time management imho. I dont expect an assembly line of punctuality but id like them to be better than the local plumber.

Hell im hungry myself.

That is your fault for taking the noon time slot. Also, don't complain when your 3PM flight is delayed when you could have gotten on the 7AM flight which is on time far more often.

Thats surgery. Usually is later than expected. Some take forever. You get complications. Assisted with total knee reconstruction surgery years ago. Took an extra 3 hours than they expected. Just know that the surgeons are in the OR for hours on end with no breaks. Then once its done the room has to be cleaned and sterilized. Set back up and have everything prepped and ready to go. Cant do that until room is clean. Its a process

Procedure was only 30 mins.. just shaving the cartilage under kneecap and a lateral release.

She has been in recovery longer. Everything went well. No permanent cure tho. Should help with clicking and pain though. Probably replacement when she is old.

You'd be even more pissed if you knew your surgeon ignored anesthesia guidelines, which recommend clear liquids up to two hours before a procedure and solid food up to six hours pre-surgery. The concern is for possible aspiration of gastric contents (stomach contents enter lungs), which is actually reduced when clear liquids are consumed 2-4 hours pre-op.

Both the consultants and ASA members strongly agree that for otherwise healthy infants (younger than 2 yr), children (2–16 yr), and adults, fasting from the intake of clear liquids at least 2 h before elective procedures requiring general anesthesia, regional anesthesia, or sedation/analgesia (i.e., monitored anesthesia care) should be maintained.

My second biggest complaint with doctors back home (#1 being prices, which isnt all their fault) is the scheduling.

You are sitting in the waiting room an hour and a half past your appointment time, only to discover five other people have the same time, and people whos appointment was before yours hasnt been called yet.

Then the doc wants to shoot the sh!t a while. Its like, hey ass, you do know you have twenty people double booked burning personal days out there right?

I hated clinic for that reason. There were many no-shows, so slots were double booked. If people actually made their scheduled appointments, you were always behind. Compounding the problem was the oppressive amount of documentation, which took roughly double the face-to-face time of a patient visit. And there are always patients who throw in a "oh by the way, I've also been having this chest pain..." at the end of their clinic visit.

Hospital medicine is much better, as you have a captive audience.

So did the nurse shave her or did she do it on her own? Did she need a little help on some of the tighter angles?

Just wondering

No wonder you and Bert are pals. A couple of perverts.
