giraldi02 470 Posted August 7, 2017 Yeah this hurts Zay Jones potentially in the biggest way. A good time to note the Bills ran 51% of their plays with either 2WR or 1WR sets last season. 5th fewest 3WR sets in the NFL according to Warren Sharp. It'll be interesting to see how much Boldin has left in the tank.

I don't know much about McDermott and how frequently he prefers to run a 3 WR set, but I'd bet it's different from what Rex and company prefer.
Marshall 98 Posted August 7, 2017 Boldin's tenacity has always been impressive. Glad to see him back/still in action.

Offensive coordinator is Rick Dennison, who comes over from Denver. Ran 3+WR sets almost 70% of the time. Granted, the personnel in Denver was better at WR, but could also then serve as a perfect way to snag Jones later if the Boldin signing makes others pessimistic on him
Ray_T 587 Posted August 7, 2017 This is a good signing. I think a lack of depth at WR really hurt Tyrod's numbers when his WR's started to get hurt last year. While Boldin isnt the player he was, he is good enough to be helpful and he will be a good mentor to some of the young WR's on this team.
The Football Guru 211 Posted August 7, 2017 I think this signing really dings Charles Clay and pretty much locks Jones into Robert Woods-like numbers, at least until Sammy gets hurt (if it happens).
cotarice12 18 Posted August 7, 2017 I think this signing really dings Charles Clay and pretty much locks Jones into Robert Woods-like numbers, at least until Sammy gets hurt (if it happens). Unfortunately, with Sammy I think it's "when it happens." He's already banged up a little bit. He could be a #1 WR if he'd ever stay healthy, but I have serious doubts that he can. Boldin should certainly help in the red zone, and I think this signing only really helps Tyrod, and slightly dings everyone else. I agree about impacting Clay the most. (I forgot to add the "/when" after "if") I don't ever want to assume I know an injury is going to happen, but it sure seems like they find him. I also never had the same concern about Julio Jones' foot problems as I do about Sammy's now.
Smileseers 54 Posted August 7, 2017 I think that the Bills have zero confidence in Watkins and that is the main reason they signed Anquan Boldin. A WR with a chronic bad foot is someone I doubt the Bills are planning on investing in the future with Sammy being in his last year of contract. Clay was often doubled up the seam, and I think that Boldin will keep defences honest underneath, allowing more open reads for Clay. I expect more from Zay Jones this season than I do of Watkins or Boldin.

I expect more from Zay Jones this season than I do of Watkins or Boldin. a lot of times these things are actually lisfranc injuries, but the team wont announce it as such (or it was mis diagnosed) those type of injuries are especially tough to come back from because nearly every tendon, ligament, nerve runs through that area and an injury in that part of the foot seems to screw up everything. either way, foot injuries are generally bad even if they are not in the lisfranc area, but it's definitely bad news for a football player. delchay 6 Posted August 8, 2017 I think Boldin is done. He has no separation speed. He might occasionally get into the end zone but I would only draft him as WR 5 . It's too risky to get him earlier. He won't be hard to cover even though he has had a great career and has had great endurance over the years.

My wife is a bills fan, so I see alot of their workouts. I don't think Zay Jones has dropped a ball yet this year. He even reminds me of a young Boldin. Most likely hurts his value this year. But a year of learning under a veteran like Anquan and next year he could be a beast.

Kopy 489 Posted August 9, 2017 He had separation speed ever? Show me the film.Agreed, that's not his game. Even as a rookie he wasn't out running anyone.
Ray_T 587 Posted August 9, 2017 He had separation speed ever? Show me the film. Boldin never had speed. his game has always been positioning, and because he's a big, physical receiver, nobody is gonna get around that big body to beat him to the ball. this is the kind of player who, if he can stay healthy, could have a longer career than most receivers simply because Speed was NEVER his game. Marshall 98 Posted August 9, 2017 Largent vs Boldin I go Boldin. And I loved Largent. I loved Largent, too. : ) When I think of Boldin, though...the player comparison that comes to my mind is Ronnie Lott. They both sacrificed body parts in their dogged determination to win for their team(s) - and kept on playing despite that. In Lott's instance, it was a significant portion of his finger, but in Boldin's case, it was at least half of his face. (As far as I know, he is still playing with several metal plates in his face and skull). Anquan Boldin has a singular level of dedication.
