Take away R.Lee Ermey and this film is really bad. For those of us who lived during the Vietnam film revival and some pretty much all of them in the theater, it was the worst. You just get beaten over the head with one cliche after another.

It's hard to even imagine the movie without Ermey.

Btw, this is the story the movie is based on;

Thsts a stupid statement for a couple reasons.

First of all, pvt. Pyle was great too. Secondly you can't just take a character out. It's part of the movie.

I suppose rocky would suck if rocky wasn't in it

Funny how Ermey wasn't even suppose to be in it originally...Was just showing the actors how it was done

Nah. This whole movie is awesome and the only reason they are cliches is because of this movie. This movie made the cliches.

This will always be in the holy trinity of war movies with saving private Ryan and the third is up for debate.

I don't think hollywood would let directors do this kind of stuff anymore. 17 month shoots? 30+ takes for each scene?
Seems excessive...

Another great half movie. The 2nd half is a snooze fest.

I wouldn't say snooze fest, but the 2nd half had a lot to live up to

They filmed the boot camp part in England. Takes away the whole battle that goes on with the South Carolina heat and insects. Great movie though.

Me: "SIR, recruit Lance requests permission to speak to senior drill instructor Staff Sargent West, SIR!"

DI: "What is is recruit?"

Me: "SIR, I would...."

DI: "Get the fock out of here with this 'I' shtt"

ME: Walks away in shame. Does not get to talk for the rest of the focking day. :overhead:

Some here might know what all that means. HAHA

I do love this video though. :D

Yep, I am pretty sure dude damn near risked his life doing that.

This movie does have some amazing charters. Pyle was great. Gunny Hartman was great. Animal Mother was also pretty focking awesome.

Another great half movie. The 2nd half is a snooze fest.

First part of this movie was stunning it was so focking close to the real thing. Hell, some of the shtt Hartman said in this movie was literally word for word, right of a drill instructor's mouth from Paris Island. Not a surprise since Ermey was a real DI, but sill pretty cool.

One of the neatest things I saw was was a bunch of grown men standing around outside in some grass just yelling.

I asked the Drill Instructor(By this time, I was in a place where I could speak freely) WTF were the doing. They were practicing yelling at recruits. LMAO. It was a sight to behold.
