Kalishnakov develops Automated Killing Bots

Recommended Posts

The maker of one of the most famous guns in the world, Kalashnikov, is now turning its attention to robots. Autonomous killer robots to be precise. The company announced yesterday it has developed combat drones that will use AI to find targets and make independent decisions. In simple terms, AI killer robots. Images released by the company show combat robots with Kalashnikov’s PK series machine guns mounted on top. The company stated, “In the nearest future we plan to unveil a whole line of neural network based products. A fully automated combat module based on that technology is to be unveiled during the ARMY-2017 forum.”

If you think this might be SciFi or ChickenLittle, both Hawking and Musk have come out with 1,000 other scientists against this - Because, well, duh.

Among other (much scarier) things, it's yet another argument against the traditional role of the Marines.

I've pointed out before that we haven't done a major or relevant beach storming (traditional role) since

WW2.

But let's say we find ourselves having to - And just carpet bombing the crap outta some beach apparently isn't going to work.

Seems to me, these suckers are the key; Point 'em, push 'em and turn 'em off when the beach is cleared.

Despite what's been written, I think we have to be decades from bots being able to distinguish between friend and foe in tight quarters, but there are certainly situations where that limitation can be overcome. Hell, the existing technology we have on the battlefield to distinguish friend and foe has failed us before. - And THAT still has a human arbiter.

Still, the idea of autonomous killing machines where we rely upon their own heuristic nueral nets is scary as heck.

And, if we can hack roadshide signs, gas pump and whatnot...

...

Yes, the idea is very scary.

So was the idea a few years ago that everyone who owned a 3d printer could by now make their own guns. How's that turned out so far?

Yes. Completely equivalent. Reminds me of the great Alar/Apple scare of '82. oh - and remember Y2k?

Perhaps we could just stay on the subject, mkay?

But, as an aside, needing one more way to make guns in Amurica is a bit like 3D printed diabetes.

Yet again, Hollywood is an uncanny predictor of technological, sociological, political, etc. eventualities.

Sex robots. Then there will be no more war.

You joke, but pron historically has been a huge technology driver.

Wake me up when it actually happens. Which it won't.

Seems like cyber war fare is the future (and the now for that matter). Viruses. EMP's. Hacking. If the soldiers are gonna be robots attack where they are weak.

interesting star trek episode:

Nearing the planet, the Enterprise receive a message from Eminiar VII warning them not to approach under any circumstances. Fox orders Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) to enter orbit anyway. Kirk, First Officer Spock (Leonard Nimoy), and additional security personnel beam down to the planet, where they are met by representatives Mea 3 (Barbara Babcock) and Anan 7 (David Opatoshu). Anan 7 reminds them they should not have come, as their city had just been struck by a Vendikar fusion bomb which has killed half a million people. The city shows no such damage, and Kirk inquires how this was possible. They are shown that Eminiar VII and Vendikar, as part of a treaty, participate in simulated war games to avoid destroying either civilization or ecology, but those that are considered "killed" must report to disintegration chambers within 24 hours. The landing party is told that the Enterprise has been calculated to have been struck by a tri-cobalt satellite, and its crew now considered "killed", demanding Kirk order the crew to the disintegration chambers. Kirk refuses, and the landing party is held hostage.

The Iraqi-bots have a special subroutine wherein they surrender to the first thing that approaches them; Media, stray dogs, butterflies, etc.
