3.09 Monty Python and the Holy Grail Dark Comedy?

Think that's a bit of a stretch....Fargo, Seven Psychopaths are really what people mean by Dark Comedy. Using a catapult to hurl a giant 'Trojan Rabbit', not so much.

I get it. But it's not really a ha-ha comedy. Bring out your dead? It's almost it's own genre. However, I am not opposed to calling it a comedy.

4.02 E.T. 80's.

This is why I hated that category. Too difficult to define.

I thought the 4th round might be a little early for Reservoir Dogs but I wanted to make sure I got it and I wasn't sure it would come back to me in the 5th.

What I hope that you would think about with the "Musical" Category are Broadway shows that crossover to film. If you were to try to shoehorn Blazing Saddles into that category, you'll get actors and comedians with mediocre singing voices performing Mel Brooks songs going up against Broadway performers singing to music by Schoenberg or Loewe or Hammerstein/Rogers and I think that's like throwing Blazing Saddles away.

I'd very much recommend against slating it there.

This is a campy movie about hilarious absurdities, creative uses of the word 'n*gger,' and punching out a horse.

Agreed. Its not really a musical.

I think wiffle defined a musical well a few weeks ago when he said something like the music is part of the storytelling and moves the story forward.

This was very cordial of you. I might lean to..Blazing Saddles is not a musical. We have 32 effing rounds, why the hell would you try to back in something like this, its pathetic.

Fair enough. I was watching it the other night and told my wife I thought it might qualify as a musical. I read an interview with Mel where he said Blazing Saddles was basically a musical and with a couple of more songs he could put it on Broadway.

No big deal. I'm happy to have it as my Comedy.

4.3 - The Usual Suspects - Crime/Gangster. I remember seeing this in the theater and being into it from beginning to end, and end no one saw coming. The line-up scene with Stephen Baldwin and Del Torro was top notch. Great flick that stands the test of time.

http://www.ew.com/article/2014/05/01/blazing-saddles-mel-brooks/

Funnyman Mel Brooks recently revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that his 1974 satirical Western comedy 'Blazing Saddles' is a step closer to Great White Way. He told EW: ""Blazing Saddles" is almost there. I get the feeling that if I could find the time to write three or four more songs, it could be a bold and crazy musical."

Would you still like to see Blazing Saddles on Broadway?

I’m still seriously thinking about. I think it’ll work. I’ve written a couple of songs already. I just have to talk to people like Susan Stroman and think about how to do it. I’d like to open it up in Houston or something. If it goes there, it will go anywhere.

It's not that big of a stretch. :dunno:
