Eli Manning the most overrated player in NFL history

With him being a product of the New York hype machine and a very mediocre quarterback who may or may not have Downs.
Manning’s career is the manifestation of a quarterback getting too much credit for a team’s success and the over-importance placed on Super Bowls reflecting a quarterback’s legacy.
His two Super Bowl wins were a product of an exceptional running game and incredible defensive efforts. In 2008, the Giants held the Patriots, one of the best offenses in NFL history, to 14 points and in 2012 they held a similarly potent New England attack to 17 points. You tell me who deserves the credit for those victories.
Any Eli basher will say that his Super Bowl wins were flukes built upon some of the luckiest plays in NFL history – they are right, but that is just the tip of the iceberg of evidence proving his overall mediocrity.
Let’s focus on the playoff runs in both Super Bowls and how in each instance, the NFC Championship game was given to the Giants. In 2007, Brett Favre threw an interception in overtime to setup New York’s game-winning field goal.
In 2011, after being outplayed throughout much of the game, the Giants backed doored their way to the Super Bowl when the 49ers muffed a punt in overtime and put the Giants in position for a chip-shot field goal.
In the ensuring years, Manning’s track record resembles that of a journeyman backup than any potential Hall of Famer.
Since the Giants’ last Super Bowl, Manning’s record is 28-36, does not have a playoff appearance, and has tallied two consecutive 6-10 seasons.
Manning has had three years in his career where he has thrown 20 or more interceptions including 2013, where he tossed a jaw-dropping 27 picks.
Manning also has the distinguished honor of being one of 67 quarterbacks in NFL history to post a 0.0 QB rating in a game and let me tell you that list is a who’s who of some of the worst quarterbacks in NFL history.
That memorable contest came in 2004 against the Vikings. In his defense, that was his rookie year, so what is the defense for the five other games in his career where he threw four or more interceptions?
Manning has the uncanny ability to throw some of the ugliest interceptions seen, unless they magically stick to a helmet.
After those throws, the always anticipated Eli Face makes an appearance. That should be a disqualifier right of that bat….seriously can you imagine a bust of that in Canton?
Listen, I’m not saying Eli is a bad quarterback, but the Hall of Fame talk is laughable. Two Super Bowls won largely on the backs of the defense does not change the fact that he has been a middle of the pack quarterback for most of his career.

Not truth. The 2004 game was played by Kurt Warner. Eli didn't start until week 11. The horrible game against the Vikings was in 2007, at home. We all know how that year worked out. Guy gets that wrong I stop reading.

He's up there for sure.

Eli will supplant Joe Namath as the worst QB in the NFL HOF.

Eli will get in.... and he shouldn't.

His entire career is based on 2 games vs. New England... meaning that NE's greatness was/is so great that if you ever even beat them once or twice, you're automatically in the HOF.

whats up the the downs comment? lil strange/harsh :o

agreed.

the article is garbage.

the larger point is valid though - Eli Manning is a terrible QB that only gets credit because his last name is Manning and he plays in New Jersey.

Well, those 2 games were for rings, regardless of opponent. That's kind of a big deal.

QB's with long careers and 2 Super Bowl rings are called Hall of Famers. That's just how it goes.

Which Manning do you want to lead your team in the Super Bowl?

Well, if they are playing the Pats, Eli obviously. He beat them twice and was MVP both times.

 Jimmy Conzelman! Don't forget Jimmy Conzelman! Eli's way better than him!

Yeah, you got schooled, again. It's understandable though. Football in New England didn't begin until the 2000's.

Overrated pwrhaps but not up there with the most of all time.

He is over the hill for sure. Not a ttop 10 all time QB or anything. HOFer yes obviously.

Its been fun but Eli should retire.

The Giants leaving him with a crap oline isnt any help right now. He has little chance. They will pay Odell a bunch and continue to have holes and waste a good defense.

Eli is not a HOFer. If he gets in, its an embarrassment to the museum. In the modern era, there have been 26 QB's elected. A few big ones coming up like Peyton, Brady, Brees, Rodgers. So in a way, what everyone who thinks Eli is a HOFer is saying is that Eli is one of the best 31ish QB's of the last 60 years. Most years he's lucky to be considered in the top half of the league.

Don't people have to think you're good before you can be overrated?

Emmitt didn't have Dallas' Great Wall line at Escambia High School - when he graduated he was the state's all time rushing leader and scorer.

Emmitt didn't have Dallas' Great Wall line at Florida - when he graduated he was the Gators' all time leading rusher and rushing td scorer.

Before Emmitt got to Dallas, not a single one of those on the Great Wall had ever made a Pro Bowl or been an All Pro.

I'd watch the Football Life on Emmitt coming up on the 22nd - Emmitt was hardly deserving to be on this list.

Eli also beat Favre and Rodgers. In their place. Does that count? And the great Tony Romo. And the best defense in the game, on the road. But yeah, just the Patriots. Won two NFC championships on the road in OT. But don't let that get in the way of your narrative. He only beat Brady.

Emmit Smith was a great running back and a great football player. I didn't see him coming off the field, unlike Sanders. Want to win? Draft Emmit. Want to get on sports center? Draft Barry.

Eli is a lot like Jeter

Never the best, not even when they were at their personal best. Good, better than average, not quite great, but in the end, overrated.

It's a New York thing.
