Sleeper Defenses The Rest Of The Way...

Recommended Posts

As usual, as the very first Add/Drop in my entire (money) league, I dropped the Titans defense and picked up Arizona for a one week play against a, then, weak SF.

There are currently only three teams in my league that have more than one defense. And I assume this is the case in most 12 team leagues with a roster limit of 14 players.

There are defenses like skins, 49rs, Jaguars, Raiders, Seahawks, Dolphins etc still available in most leagues.

Also, teams are dropping Defenses like the Pats and Colts.

Which sleeper D is going to be the best from here on out?

Also, consider the Best D considering Matchups vs. the best D generally.

It's amazing how many points good Defenses provide in a standard league - 20-30 points per week. It's also amazing that the highest scoring defense - TEN in most leagues - was drafted in the very late rounds - 14th, that is, last - in my league.

Also, how many people believe in keeping 2 D's on their rosters?

D's truly are a potential difference maker in terms of points.

Thoughts/Opinions?

From the teams you listed...

skins, 49rs, Jaguars, Seahawks

I don't think the Dolphins or Raiders are worth adding regardless of matchup. I think the 49ers could be used situationally but it could blow up in your face if the game turns into a shootout, as Martz games sometimes do. Of the remaining 3, I like the Redskins the best followed by the Jags then Seahawks. I still think the Jags could turn it around but I'm not betting on it.

My thoughts are why did you drop the Titans? That was an every week play right there.

Guys were talking about the Cardinals' easy schedule, improved defense, and they were top 10 last year. I have the Titans but I'd have done the same thing. I'm glad the Cards weren't available.

You'd have done the same thing? For the Zona Cardinals? The Zona Cardinals?

I think FF Today had them in their top 5.

I Picked up Atl's D last week vs the chief, and this week I dropped them and picked up Denvers D. Against the Chifes, hope it works again this week.

LOL. After drafting Indi and playing them weeks 1 and 2, I went with the exact same strategy. Atl did well for me week 3, and I'm hoping for the same out of Denver this week!

i was targeting the titans D lat ein my draft but jumped on a higher ranked pre season D because they slipped (to the last round). anyhow i still planned on adding the titans after week 1 but slept a bit and now its too late..

there are still plenty of good defenses week to week.

Anyone else?

:shocking:

If Jacksonville's offense (David Garrard and O-line) can get it together I like their defense best of the four listed. That may be a big "if" though. The Jags have a more favorable schedule than the rest as well. All four defensive units suffer with offenses that have had trouble to some degree staying on the field which doesn't bode well for your points against and total yardage values. I see all four as basically situational at best. Seattle may prove to be OK too once the receiving corps returns and gets in sync.

How'd that Cardinal DEF work out for ya

Just remember, we're talking about the Cardinals!!

Seems to me the Titans are the real sleeper DST this year.

Packer DST owner here. They have been good, but I am not confident that will continue if Rodgers goes out. Witness what happened to the Pats' DST.

So on my WW there are:

Bucs

Giants

Pats (dropped by me previously)

Colts

Chargers

Vikes

The only ones remotely intriguing to me are the Bucs, Giants, Pats and Chargers.

I'm quite happy with my Tampa Buc's DFS drafted in the 14th round...they're my ONLY DFS at the moment and putting up great numbers...I'd have to say they're one of the best sleepers around and should be picked up if available...

I like the Jets unit; big guy clogging the middle, decent LB corps. Not as talented in the backfield but they generally don't give up big gainers.

Love the Raiders backfield, but not so much for the rest of the D, or the instability of the franchise. You wonder how anybody functions in that zoo.

Yeah but YOU would have taken the Cards had they been available.

I know, but you asked how the Cardinals D worked out for me.

Unfortunately my league mates have gone crazy the past two weeks, and many teams carry two Defenses.

Who's to like from this bunch?

Arizona

Saints

Seattle

Tampa Bay

Atlanta

Washington

49ers

Jacksonville

Indy

I've got the Bills, but don't like their matchup vs. ARI, and then they're on bye. I'm thinking the Packers might be available since that owner also has NYG. If not, I'll consider TB but that's a rough matchup (@ DEN). Anybody else stick out to you?

Tampa and Washington. I really like Tampa against inexperienced QBs or otherwise weak passing attacks.

I like TB's D in general, but I'm steering clear of them this week. Denver's offense is too good, they're at home, and they're probably intent on not making careless mistakes as they did last week.

I'm aiming for GB, or ATL if Rodgers is out.

I not only believe in this but hell sometimes I keep 3 of them on my roster if I can afford to do so, and I've done it in both my main money leagues so far because such good Ds were available.

I do it for 2 reasons - First - it keeps my competitors from finding a great defense on the waiver wire when they are dropping defenses that they drafted or ones they picked up for one week like you did.

Also it gives me great odds of having one great matchup to use every week. Defenses can score pretty well in my leagues so it is worth it.

How were/are the Titans a sleeper D.

They were a very good defense last year...and a great defense so far this year.

There was nothing sleeper about them.

They should have been drafted in the first 5 defenses picked...

Packers D. They are living off the big play and TDs...but will have some stinkers and are very banged up right now.

With harris still out, Woodson hurting, Hawk hurting, safeties hurting, and now Cullen Jenkins out for the year.

This D that has already given up a good amount of points this year, is not going to get any better.

Agreed. Bad matchup this week, but I like them the rest of the way.

Teams in my league must carry at least two DSTs. I've got the Titans for week-to-week. My other choice is the Colts. I'm considering dropping the Colts and picking up the Skins. My main interest is Week #6 for the Titans bye........Colts host the Ravens that week and the Skins host the Rams.

All things considered, Washington is the better D.....but are they the better (potential) defensive choice over the Colts in week #6?
