Ten Days of Concerts - Day 8 (bands you saw in their prime)

Recommended Posts

For those getting tired of this sh-t, only two more days to go.

You can obviously have more than one in this thread. And bands obviously don't all have to be great just to be in their prime.

I probably have several just need to think it through. And it's interesting to think of when a band is actually in their prime, as some are probably several albums in while others are earlier in their career.

I saw Snoop when he was touring with lollapalooza right about when he was peaking

Ted Nugent

As you stated this could be different for everyone,I was also going to list Bob Seger,John Cougar,ZZ top and some others but upon further review and imho I saw Cougar before the Mellencamp,Seger after Live Bullet & Stranger In Town and ZZ Top at the height of their MTV popularity which to me were before or after those bands prime.

Not sure how to define prime. When I saw the Stones, the Who, Floyd and Paul McCartney in the mid-late 80's, they seemed old.

I'm going to Bob Seger at the Sprint Center later this year. For like $150 a ticket, that mo-fo should be transported back into his prime

my FIL is footing part of the bill, otherwise I probably would have passed. Awolnation sounds like something I would be interested in though, might have to look that one up.

TP & the Heartbreakers (surprised?), Grateful Dead, Ozzy. I'll post this just so all you can laugh at me - saw Debbie Gibson back when she was big. Probably some others that I'm not remembering. I think many of you (nzoner) are missing out saying you won't pay market value to see some of the old bands that are still touring. Many of them still sound very good. In some cases possibly better than when in their prime. And they play just as long as ever. Vocal coaches can do wonders and it seems a lot of these guys are using them. Most of the new bands suck so if I didn't go see old bands that I like I wouldn't go to concerts at all. And that day may come, but not yet.

You can't? I don't smoke but I sure smell it at the concerts I go to. Of course, I do live in Colorado :)

Very true.

I'm also wondering if the Glass Animals show I just saw would down the road fit in this category. Or will they come out with 3 or 4 solid albums and maybe have their prime a little later in their career. Same could be said for going to see Alt-J later this summer, or someone like Awolnation as nzoner mentioned in another thread. Almost kind of a guessing game when you are out buying tickets I would imagine.

I feel like most people see bands in their prime. :dunno: That's when they tour the most, sell the most, etc. Right?

A better list may be "bands you saw before their prime"....or for the lame dudes here, "bands you saw that were clearly past their prime"

Radiohead, Muse, The National, Kings of Leon, The Killers, Bloc Party, The Toadies, The Beastie Boys, The Shins, Arcade Fire, Spoon, TV On the Radio....and more.

I saw Ozzy 2 weeks after Rhodes died. I think it was the 2nd show he played with the replacement guitarist.

I remember being kind of surprised they didn't cancel the rest of the tour.
