Interesting story there. The Paddy wagon actually has nothing to do with the Irish. At least not originally. You see, the Asians were treated even worse than the African Americans. It's true, you can look it up. Blacks were granted Universal citizenship long before Asians were. Again, you can look this up.

There is some merit to your assertion, but it isnt the schools, the teachers, the "system", its the parents. Time and again we see behind kids who achieve are parents who motivate them to do so....kids imbued with the additional quality of character, morals, dedication, ethics also achieve and these are the values we SHOULD be rewarding. I feel a lot of it is culture. Asian kids are taught to succeed regardless of obstacle. If they fail, they are branded failures.

 

AA's are consistently branded as victims. Not just from a failing school, but even when they commit violent crimes.

I have had occasion to be around people from a variety of backgrounds, and notably my Asian friends were typically from low income families that pushed them pretty hard, were maybe a little too hard core at times, but those kids were KILLING it in school and while their parents cleaned houses, work at gas stations, minimum wage stuff etc, now those kids are high earners, and take care of their parents....

I would also point out that the schools systems do make allowances for people who simply cannot handle academic rigor.

 

They have things like IEP's, and these are designed to help kids with a variety of impediments to learning keep up with their more capable friends. So, its not all that unusual to see schools in particular tweak the model for kids who simply cannot compete.

The lower standards have been going on for quite a while now. They'll never understand that when you lower the standards to help one group, you lower them for everyone and end up with a sub standard workforce all around. There's no distinction between applicants anymore.

I had an Vietnamese male friend who graduated Valedictorian from his high school and got a partial scholarship to Brown, but a full ride to University of Boston...or Boston U, whatever.

 

He wanted to go to a University of California school but knew he'd never get in. Can you imagine? Top of his class but knew he couldn't get in a U.C. school because of all the smart Asians in California vying for a few seats.

I think the complainants, in this case the Asians, are an effective hedge against a racist tilt toward admissions that we should all oppose. The win here being that Asians are a minority, and thus hold a higher place on the grievance hierarchy, making it tough to shoot them down with traditional SJW tactics. I think Harvard, and others, made a mistake in going after the minority Asians, it was a strategic mistake.

 

The Asians are smart, organized and using their position in the social hierarchy as a minority to their advantage, I personally enjoy it because it really clearly points out how flawed the notion of AA truly is.
