Joseph Williams is new GM John Lynch's first RB draft choice. It is not unusual for a new GM to put the best players on the field in his opinion. I'm sure Lynch has a better view of Hyde's attitude than any of us.

 

Hyde is only signed through the 2017 season. $1.71 million in salary cap this season and there is no way he gets the tag put on him next season. Dead money would only be $249,000. So why not cut bait? He is not great, average at best.

 

Hightower is an adequate backup.

Personally I think Hyde would be way more valuable in fantasy outside of SF.

Well, this sort of thing happens all the time. New coach, new offensive system. they draft a new player who they feel fits the scheme better and next thing you know, the old player is on the outs.

 

I think this kind of thing is more common with defensive players, but it happens.

i have been hearing this for a little while. i am a hyde fan but i understand their thought process. they are not liking his running style.... think it is inviting injury. he has done a great job considering their oline has been bad and he has not had much support from the passing game.

I just listened to a podcast with a SF beat reporter. He was saying that Hyde is talented but his running style doesn't fit the new blocking scheme. Hyde is used to running from a read option scheme and this new system is almost the opposite in terms of where he is handed the ball and his blocking reads. The reporter thought that Hyde will get a chance during preseason but could be traded and Hightower would be used as a bridge until Williams is ready.

 

By draft time I think this could cause Hyde to drop into the 5th round or later. If the evaluation on Hyde is true I'm having a hard time thinking of where he could find a good landing spot. I know people are all in on McCaffery being the future in Carolina but if Stewart is in his last year Hyde could help make a nice 1-2 punch in the future. Houston would make some sense to pair with Miller. Maybe Philly or Buffalo. If he is offered up on a trade he will come cheap for an RB that is young (although injury prone) and has shown he can be an effective NFL RB.

Well, there is no doubt that if the QB does not play well enough to make teams respect the pass, Howard will find the sledding to be substantially tougher than last year.

 

If I was a Def Co-ordinator, I'd stack the box against that offense and dare them to beat my team through the air.

 

If the Starting QB (whoever that may be) is good enough to beat the secondary, then I can see some running lanes opening up.

 

But I think it will take at least 3-5 games for that to happen.

Howard may very well have some regression this year but I don't see how that has any say on them going after Hyde. Just doesn't make any sense for the Bears.

Cutler wasnt spectacular, but he generally threw a 60% completion rate and 3500+ yards per year.

 

They also had a stud WR in Alshon Jeffery that they dont have now. And he was dangerous when he was in the lineup.

 

I still think it will be a harder year for him. but I also think hes a very good player. All I'm saying is dont expect the YPC to be the same. I'm pretty sure it will drop a bit.

Yes, new regime in SF but I find it hard to get rid of 1 of their best players right now before even preseason has started. Yeah he's missed some games & yeah probably a different run blocking scheme but give the dude a break. He IS an nfl player & I'm sure he's had to adjust things in his football career. At least give the guy a chance to show he can do the job. He deserves that much.

 

I'll play advocate & say he does what he needs to to be the starter and has a good year. He's got motivation on his side with the last year of contract & all the hype of Williams creepin' up his back. Could be things to help him have a pretty good 2017. I'm not countin' him out yet. Camps are just starting & there's always all kinds of hoo-ha,BS, coach speak and all the other nonsense. Until I see something concrete I consider Hyde the week 1 state and that he keeps it throughout the year bar the hated words, health issues.

I would argue what he did not do with scoring zero rushing touchdowns after week 5. Two 100 yard games playing in many blowouts.

Kyle Shanahan banged on the table in the 49ers draft room to get RB Joe Williams in the fourth round. Kyle had great success in Atlanta with RBs who can bust it to the edge, take it upfield quickly, and make big plays. That is not Carlos Hyde. The offense before was designed to his strengths. Now it is designed towards his weaknesses.

 

Lynch and Kyle have a better clue than any of us do in what they are looking at. Don't you think they watched every play of every game of 2016 before the draft?
