Warrick Dunn (at DET)

Recommended Posts

I'm giving serious consideration to starting Warrick Dunn (at DET) this week. Detroit has the worst rush defense in the NFL allowing 172 rushing ypg and a whopping 17 rushing TDs. Earnest Graham is on IR... Cadillac Williams doesn't appear ready for a serious workload yet... Clifton Smith has 7 carries but already lost 2 fumbles... BJ Askew seems like the only viable goalline threat.

I probably need to have my head checked since I am seriously considering Warrick Dunn over the likes of Brian Westbrook (at BAL) and Chris Johnson (vs NYJ). Granted the NYG ran all over the Baltimore last week, but nobody is confusing the PHI offensive line with the NYG... and Westbrook just doesn't seem right since the leg/rib injuries.

Anybody else considering Dunn this week over an established stud?

Keep in mind that Detroit is eventually going to win a game or two. I'm sure there are plenty of people who upgraded all eagles players to studs last week vs. the Bengals. Conversley look at Jacobs...I am sure there are many who benched him last week vs the Ravens due to "conventional wisdom".

If you want to start Dunn over Westbrook or Johnson, go ahead, its your funeral.

true, they are likely to make some moves in the offseason that will give them a win or 2 next season.

Usually, when something such as this in Fantasy Football seems obvious it ends up blowing up in your face. Tampa is pretty ripe for a loss...feeling pretty good at 7 - 3. Detroit is eventually going to put something together...every year there are teams that start out 0 and whatever, and everyone declares 0 - 16.

I'm just saying that Tampa is a good, but certainly not great team. They are a 2nd teir playoff contender. Same class as AZ, GB, Min, Wash, Phil, Chi, N.O, Car, Atl...any one of those teams could concievably lose to detroit if they are not ready to play. Also, when teams are this bad they do alot of unpredictable things to mix it up...they play scrubs who havn't had a chance, they run wierd plays that normal teams don't run, go for it on 4th down alot of the time, etc...

Also, it is not like Warrick Dunn is a young stud who is hard to bring down. The dude is in his 30s, my guess is that some scrub rb will get half the carries this week if they can prepare them.

Why wouldnt you start Dunn vs the Lions, he should be good for at least 12 points from rushing and receicing if he finds the endzone then you have a really nice day

I am starting Dunn along side Slaton this week. Westy is going to the bench, not because who he is playing, but the nagging injuries. I am right outside the Philly area and he just does not look crisp at all. If you are not feeling your best against Baltimore, you are in trouble. I think Mc "I don't know about ties" will have to beat them through the air. In our PPR league, Dunn is not all bad either out of the backfield.

I am sure i will get bit for doing it but it is time for a change.

You're waaaay off dude, have you even seen a TB game this year ?

Go back and look at the stats. Dunn's looking as fast and quick as ever....he's been getting more work as of late since Graham's been dinged and they lost they're fullback. He's much faster and quicker than Graham, he gets screens and is there on 3rd downs too.

And we appreciate your breakdown of TBs chances to win and make the playoffs, but we don't give a fock.

On this bored all we care about is Dunn getting yards, and a TD....and against Detroit it's a no brainer...PLAY HIM.

The ramblings of an idiot!

So your GUESS is some scrub running back will get half the carries? Geee... So convincing! At least the original poster provided some reasoning... You just open your mouth and dung falls out... good job!

I can't believe I'm saying this too, but in a must win game I'm thinking extremely hard about starting Dunn over MJD who plays the Vikings defense. Really tough call though. MJD is so damn inconsistent this year. What do you guys think.

I'm deciding between Dunn, TJones (with a tough go @TEN), KSmith and Driver for my flex.

I think Dunn offers the highest upside with the smallest risk of a being a complete dud on Sunday.

I see 80 yds and a touch, at the minimum, and in a ppr league like mine, he really could go off.

130 total yds and a td+ is not such an unreasonable expectation, is it?

Deciding not to play Dunn because this just might be the week that Detroit just might win a game

is equivalent to not going to the bathroom because this just might be the day monkeys fly out of my butt.

Like draft someone other than a WR who is worth a shiot?

Where are all these 1st pick WRs they drafted? Oh right, all but 1 are gone.

Hopefully since the firing of Millen things will change. Maybe OL, or defense? I think this experiment has shown that it is a big FAIL!

I am SERIOUSLY considering starting Dunn over Chris Johnson this week. Like someone said earlier, less of a bust factor. He may not break off a 80 yd TD run like CJ could, but 12+ pts would do me fine.

ADP just benched for Dunn.

Excuse me? I know Peterson has a toughers matchup but the entire offense is built around him. He had 85 yards last week against Tampa Bay. I love the Dunn matchup this week but AD shouldn't sit for him imo.

I could get you 12 pts vs Detroit. Start him, may not be the bigger reward but I see no worse than 10 pts and a high of 18.

I am also considering starting him over Westbrook. Sure Westbrook has a small chance of going off, but you have to play the odds that Dunn has a much better shot at decent points and plenty of upside. in my case I don't need a homerun but I can't risk a goose-egg.

I know MJD is not a stud, but he has picked it up over the last few weeks. I benched him against the best D in the NFL aka the titans to start Deuce against the worst D in the league, aka chiefs. 18 yards rushing 1 td (deuce) and 100 total yards 2 td's later(mjd), i'm kicking myself.

The way i feel about bonafide studs is this. I'd feel worse if i made the switch, dunn over westbrook, and westbrook ended up doing way better than dunn, than if i didn't bench my stud and the guy i was thinking about starting had a huge game. I know, playin not to lose, always taking the safe road, all that kind of stuff isn't going to win you championships but in this case, i'd go with westy. However, i would start dunn over cj.

Dude, you are NOT out of your mind IMO, and I would start DUNN over Westbrook and CJ this week.....if DUNN doesn't put up 20-25 points vs the hapless Kittens, then there is something wrong !!!

Thomas Jones has been great, and I know I will depend on him in the playoffs, but he's on the bench this week @TEN.

I am happy that holding onto Kevin Smith for 11 weeks looks to be paying off, but he has a limited ceiling this week vs tampa.

Dunn gets the call.

This should have been a easy decision even if it wasn't the Lions cause he has been solid all year and now is the clear cut #1. The fact he is being used more in the passing game is just more reason to wanna play him he was a big steal on the WW for me and has posted many good games and pretty much no complete tank jobs. I think if you throw out the Dallas game where he left with an injury after one carry and his only bad performance vs Seattle he has averaged about 10 pts a week.
