Brady is Back!

Recommended Posts

he looks sharp, moving well in the pocket.

he's throwing the ball with a lot of zip too.

the whole offense is looking like everything NE fans were hoping for.

Baker is having a great game.

He looks to be everything we hoped Watson would be.

and this kid Edelman is Welker's clone.

Moss is definitely #2 on my WR list. I don't have a shot at Fitz anyways in any league I am in.

I agree on all points. Where is Welker - not dressed tonight?

Edelman has been very impressive so far. Brady is looking his way a lot.

I am surprised to not see Taylor.

Maroney still sucks.

Maroney still sucks.

yup.

I think he did have 6carries for 36yards at one point, but he still doesn't look the part. He doesn't run decively enough... arms, legs, and hair flying everywhere, but very little actually happenning.

And he doesn't break tackles.

He carried a few times on that first trip to the red zone (I think it was the first trip) and there was just no chance of him breaking it into the endzone... he just doesn't make things happen.

Ooops. He already threw his first INT.

I think they just called a deep pass there for the practice of it. it's preseason.

they don't call that play at that time in a real game, they're just trying to get the longball timing down.

BUT

that was a crappy throw.

regardless of whether the defense knows what's coming or not, Brady just didn't throw a good ball there. He wasn't under extreme pressure, he didn't get hit and he just underthrew it... it actually looked like he threw it too high/straight up... like he didn't folllow thru.

now, if this was all we saw tonight, you could say/worry that he's afraid to step into a throw or take a hit. But the other 19 passes (15 completions) were fantastic. So, I don't really know what happened with that long-ball INT.

Brady was rusty and threw it behind some guys early on. He also threw a pop up to Moss that was picked off. Other than that, it was very positive in that he stood in the pocket and he hit his guys. They were up big and dominated the Eagles in the first half (when the first team was in). Some thoughts:

- I was very surprised that Brady played as much as he did.

- Edelman is Welker Jr., but he can throw the ball. Give him a season and he could be something special

- Baker is a better receiver than he is given credit for. Runs nice routes and Brady is looking for him. Take note.

- The Pats will play more 4-3 than 3-4 this season. They have a ton of talent on the DL and they are going to make life tough for offenses this season.

- Patrick Chung is versatile and he reminds people of an older Rodney Harrison in that he has to work on coverage. When he learns that technique better, he is going to be really good.

- Galloway is going to struggle. His routes stink and that is a key in this offense

- Put Brady down for 32+ TD's this season. A prediction, but one that I feel comfortable with ;)

- Fred Taylor and Greg Lewis did not play. Don't know what they bring, but they have opportunity and talent.

- Welker and Ty Warren didn't play, but no one questions their talent and contributions. DYK that Welker is already 10th on the team's all-time receiver list after 2 seasons (223 catches)?

- Randy Cross is a good commentator and Don Criqui should have retired 5 years ago.

Who's the poster that typed a long story about a month ago .....and how some Dr. Quack (that never walked on a football field) said Brady was going to need a full season to mantally return from this injury ? Trying to draw parallels between Cason and Brady ?I can't recall the thread title, so I can't go back to get it,.....but man that poster would love it come back.

So what TROLL? QB's throw INT's. His career TD to INT ration is among the best in NFL History so what's your point?

Same annoying people on this site as last year go troll somewhere else.

He's one of your own, d-bag

He's #1 on mine. Fitz is great but Moss has fantasy point potential that Fitz dreams of.

Fat Boy I like your review but you are quite reactionary. 1 game and Galloway sucks, Baker and Edelman are all pros?

- It's far too soon to say Galloway's routes stink. They have played 2 QTR's together, routes are about timing between QB and WR not one or the other. Furthermore Galloway ran a great route on the Goal Line and dropped an easy TD. Furthermore I've been to 2 practices and Galloway has looked fine in practice. Last the guy has 10k yards recieving I think he can run some routes.

- You are overreacting on the 4-3 statement after just one game. They are evaluating talent and seeing what they have if they want to play the 4-3 and it's been en voque for about 2 weeks to say the Pats are switching to a 4-3. I seriously doubt this team switches from a 3-4 to a 4-3 but there will be more 4-3 then last year and years past. You are forgetting how much talent they have at LB. Don't all of the sudden tell me Myron Pryor, Ron Brace and Jarvis Green are going to keep Bruschi, Woods, Banta Cain, Burgess, Tank Williams, and Crable off the field. They are experimenting in the Pre season like they do ever year. It's kind of silly to think they'd just blow up the D because of one 2nd round pick, Brace.

- Baker is a solid player who was and will be made to look better by the pinpoint throws of Brady

- Taylor is a Hall of Famer, if Antowain Smith adn Corey Dillon could excel here maybe that's a guage for Taylor

- Brady will throw about 42-52 TD' passes. You are way under on that one

I do agree Edelman has talent, and I do agree Patrick Chung is a talent and versatile but wasn't that obvious after college? If not it showed last night when he played on Punt Return, Kick Block, and Defense and showed up on all 3.

He hit on 10 of 15. One miss was the pick to Moss, horrible throw granted. One was the INT call on Samuel, perfect pass, one was a swing that went off Moss' hands, perfect pass, and one was the endzone pass that clanged off Galloway, perfect pass. I remember Baker making a nice grab on a ball throw a little behind, but I don't remember a bunch of others throw behind receivers.

Edelman looks like a real find. Looked very comfortable at receiver and KR for being a converted QB.

Baker looks very good.

Maroney still looks pretty ordinary despite all the talk of a 'great camp'.

McCoy looks very good. The announcers need to shut up about him. Maclin looks good too. Some nice young receivers there in Philly.

Is there no one else in this thread that is absolutely petrified Brady and Moss are going to repeat what happen two years ago and go OFF. I'm talking 50 TDs, 5000 yards for Brady and 15 TD's 1400 yards for Moss.

I know, those would be astounding numbers, but they did it once. Why the hell couldn't they do it again?

I don't have a shot at either player in my league, so I'm very worried thats going to happen.

i think 5000 yards and 50 tds is over exaggerating a little bit.. and i have Brady... seeing how 49-50 tds has only been achieved twice, and 5000 yards has only been achieved twice... though it is very possible because i do think Brady and Moss is one of the best QB-WR combos to ever hit the field.. as they proved in 2007... not to mention Welker (arguably one of the best possession WR's in the game with brady at the helm), Galloway (deep threat), Watson, Baker, Faulk and Taylor are great weapons, and Edelson who looks like Welker's back up or side kick for that matter...i think 35-40 tds and 4500 yards passing is more realistic.. though i think you are spot on with predictions for Moss at about 15tds and 1400 yds

Carson blew his knee out in the playoffs, so he had the off-season to recover. Brady tore his up in the first week. He has had the entire season plus off-season to recover. He's had 17 weeks of additional recovery time than Carson had. Carson still played admirably the next year, considering that most of his problems were due to an inept o-line and (other than TJ) an inconsistent cast around him.

I think that is a little high for Brady. I see him throwing for 4300 to 4500 yards and 35 to 40 TD's. Though I think your prediction for Moss is in line. I was thinking 1300 to 1400 yards and 13 to 15 TD's.

Its hard for me to imagine Brees throwing for 40 TDs.

Its easier to imagine Brady throwing 40. Which is scary.

I'm waffling now on the first QB off the board.

By definition, anything I write after 1 game is reactionary.

- Edelman and Baker are not all pros. They were surprisingly good. That is all

- Galloway's routes were very rounded and not crisp. Check the tape. I think that he needs to realize that if he is not going to get tighter on his routes, then he won't play. They have Moss for the stretch plays and they need a possession guy on the outside who can occassionally go deep.

- Saying Brady will throw for 42-52 TD's is overboard if you ask me. I don't think that they will run up the score as much as they did last season. I put a  next to the 32 TD's. I could see 35 or even 40 if he was healthy all year and they were in some high scoring games. Anything after that is too bold for me.

- I think that they will play 4-3 because they have more talent along the line than they do at LB and Belichick will maximize his talent. Add in the fact that they are looking to bring in either Kevin Carter or Vonnie Holliday and I see them adding more at DL than at LB. Given what happened last night, it merely adds weight to that line of thinking.

I'm going to group Chris Baker along with Brent Celek and Vernon Davis as sleepers at TE to watch in the preseason. I always liked Baker on the Jets and he's more of a receiver than a blocker. On the Pats offense, they already have enough blocking TE so Baker will be free to roam on with that QB and that offense Baker could be a very nice sleeper. Then again, I used to think the same thing when the Pats got Ben Watson so who knows...

I would add Jared Cook for the Titans to that list, and remove Vernon Davis.

Cook is wowing everyone in camp, and will probably take some snaps as a slot WR as well.

Davis is the perpetual tease. I will never draft him again until he shows me something.

- Brady will throw for at least 40. That's 10 less than the last time we saw him. You have him throwing for 18 less. I was joking at 52 that would be insane but 40 is a lock.

-How do they have more talent at D Line? I just don't see it? They have Mayo, Adalius, Bruschi, Tank Williams, Burgess, Mayo, Woods, Crable, at LB. They have more talent at line than years past but I still think the LB's have more talent and experience thanthe DL. Do I think they'll play more 4-3 this year? Sure but not more than 3-4. Last night was practice. They were practicing 4-3. Bruschi and Welker didn't even dress. Don't read too much into it. A complete switch to 4-3 won't happen.

- You run rounded routes when you are learning a new system and as you get t down they tighten up and become sharper. But Galloway is a WR that is beyond reproach. He's got 10k yards and he's among the most accomplished WRs to ever play on the Pats. HE DROPPED THAT PASS YESTERDAY! Look again. It was a clear drop Brady put it right on his hands. But I still love him as our WR3.

No, not a slap in the face, but I guess it's a matter of definition; I thought he looked pretty sharp and no more rusty than would be expected in the first preseason game, and fantastic considering the year long layoff.
