Recommended Posts

Is it a parking violation if you are sitting in your car while someone walks into a store? in the fire lane or in a handicapped spot.

Yes and if you do, you may get some scrutiny. So don't be a d1ck and park there just so you can push people around.

If you're behind the wheel and the car is running you aren't parked, you're stopped. Totally acceptable to stop next to a red curb IMO.

Total d!ck move to take a handicapped spot if you aren't getting out of the car. Even dicker move if you aren't even handicapped. :nono:

So if I stop for a train and put the car in park so I don't have to keep my foot on the brake, I'm parked? No, I'm stopped.

Suppose it's an endless train. :dunno:

When you pull up to a stop sign do you put your car in Park?

No I'm not. It's illegal to park in the middle of the road. I'm stopped.

When you park in the lot do you leave your car running?

If I am waiting for someone I do!

Then you shouldn't be taking up a parking spot. Go stop next to the curb so somebody else can park in the parking spot.

Parking is the action of moving a vehicle into a place in a car park or by the side of the road where it can be left.

https://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/parking

"Where it can be left"

Like I said, if the car is running and you're behind the wheel, you're stopped. As soon as you walk away, you're parked.

What if you are at a drive in movie? You're parked, but you don't walk away.

You're conveniently ignoring "CAN", doesn't mean you have to get out, it means you have the ability to leave it and that can only happen when the car is in PARK

There's still a few around. OK. So if the car is running your not parked. I can go with that.

In most cities, no parking signs ironically mean you can stop the car, and you can load or unload people and goods, but you can't leave the car alone.

Are you doing either when sitting at the store, as in the original post, no you're not

I'm going by the state of California's definition of parked vs stopped when it comes to red curbs or no parking signs.

The OP stopped, unloaded a passenger and was waiting to load the returning passenger.

A. Neither addresses the point of the original thread

B. You're neither loading goods or people in the example given.

C Those definitions don't address legal parking spaces
