Trump threatens to close 'Southern Border entirely

Recommended Posts

Here is what I don't understand. The Trumpets tell us that they know he lies and it doesn't matter because things get done. Then they tell us that Trump was so right and dead on. How can that be?

You support those that lie to you and accomplish nothing. Why is that?

I don't support people who lie to me. Not sure where you get that from, but that is typical for you.

Just so that you know, I did not vote for Hillary.

ETA: All politicians lie. It happens and I will call out whoever does it. Trump has taken things to a whole new level with his. Even when he is called out on his lies, he keeps repeating them because I think that he really believes it.

You are against Trump regardless of the topic or his successes.

I'll take the liar who keeps most of his campaign promises over the liar who doesn't everytime.

I am not against Trump at all. I want him to succeed in making the country better. I just think that he is not doing much to make the country better. I like:

- his harder line on trade with foreign countries (if he could just avoid being a schmuck in how he does it, we will be better off)

- I like that he wants to be strong on immigration, but I disagree with the wall being the lynchpin

- I liked the criminal justice reform

When he does things that I don't like, I will not just sit there and not say anything. I hate:

- how he lies constantly even when he knows he is lying

- how he pisses off even our allies

- how he has no concept of compromise

- how he spends and doesn't give a shiot about the ramifications

- how he focuses on dividing our people. Obama did and said things that caused divide, but I never got the impression it was his intention. With Trump, he does it intentionally and with malice

In truth Trump wants 25 Billion for the wall.

All he's asking for now is 5.7B

That is compromise.

Southern border isn’t where the terrorists come from, they fly in. Government shutdown is making it easier for the real threats to enter, go figure.

Classic. Will rag on anyone that links a Wapo source but then posts his own in defense.

So is Wapo credible now? Or only when it agrees with your view.

That even a debate? You could link 50 sites that all show definitive proof something is one way and they will call it lies. But one dark corner of the internet supporting their view is somehow the lone bastion of truth and irrefutable.

He wants 5.7B this year. Then he wants $6B next year, etc. He won't be able to spend the $25B this year anyway. It is all part of the ramping up process.

added border security which the dems supposedly want and those that actually have to deal with the situation say they need

:dunno:

Why don't the dems want it anymore ?

That's the question that is avoided.

It seems to me that they could easily address this by having a separate bi-partisan bill that outlines Border Security Improvements - process improvements, technology, physical security improvements (fence, wall, barrier, whatever you want to call it), improvements at ports of entry, etc. Instead of giving a blank check for a wall, put some stipulations as to where money (let's say $5B) is to be appropriated. Seems to me that anyone against that is really not for improving the situation. :dunno:

So why doesn't congress do it? They can just craft the bill you're speaking of and present it to him. This is what you get. Take it or leave it. Guarantee he would take it. But it won't happen because congress doesn't want to secure the border. I'll give you 5-1 odds for $100 no such bill reaches his desk this year.

Exactly.

This is so stupid.

Out of all the shiit we've debated on this bored. Abortion.....Gun Control......Wars.......this is the biggest no brainer of them all.

Americans, due to partisan politics, are actually against securing our border to help curtail illegal immigration.

What in the absolute Fock?

All we get in response is......

1. Well they shouldn't spend the money exactly that way

2. I agree with the premise BUT he's not "selling" it the right way!@#!

3. Walls are immoral and racist!@#!

Why don't we draft it and just mail it to them? How would we divide up $5B for the Border Security Act of 2019?

$1.0B for new barrier construction

$1.5B for repair to existing ports of entry and barriers

$1.0B for border patrol agents or whoever processes asylum claims

$0.5B for technology improvements (drones, freakin' laser beams, etc.)

$1.0B for ICE or the people who make the ones that don't get asylum turned around and headed back home

I assume that we would need to say that this is a 5 year Act, so we would be spending this money each year for 5 years. If so, we might change the numbers a little bit each year since you might need more of some things in Year 1, but less of it by Year 5.

Good?

Liberals....you wake in the middle of the night to find an intruder in your home. Do you:

A. Go back to bed after getting him a blanket and trust he only wants to come in out of the cold.

B. Point out which room your kid(s) are sleeping in and ask that he not disturb them.

C. Call Law Enforcement and have them escort him out of your house but not arrest him i.e. press no charges trusting he won't try to reenter as you've made it known he's not welcome.

D. Call Law Enforcement to arrest him or if armed deal with the intruder yourself.

Exactly. Just like this scenario for you:

You get a knock on your door at 10AM on a Saturday. Standing there is a boy scout selling cookies. Do you:

A. Shoot him in the face because only girl scouts sell cookies

B. Stab him in the throat because he is wearing one of those silly kerchief's

C. Invite him in to bang your wife

D. Call Zed so that he can take care of the little boy himself

Since my sir name isn't Podesta, I turn him away like an illegal immigrant that has nothing to offer.

You're making my point even clearer.

I oppose the wall, illegal immigration has been down recently. I am a pretty big fiscal conservative and I do not think our government is in a position to waste this money.

5 billion is just a start, the total project was estimated at around 26 billion.

It should also be noted this is the estimated cost the actual cost could be significantly higher considering they have not even settled on a design for the wall. Cost overruns have become the norm with some more than doubling or increasing even more from their initial estimate as per the below quote. What if the wall costs 50 billion, 75 billion, etc.

Instead of a spending money on a wall i think we would get more bang for the buck going after sanctuary cities and employers.

In recent years, many federal projects have had large cost overruns. The cost to create the Healthcare.gov website launched in 2013 grew from $464 million to $824 million. The International Space Station more than quadrupled in cost from $17 billion to $74 billion. The Capitol Visitor Center in Washington soared in cost from an initial $265 million to $621 million by the time it was completed in 2008.

Trump claims 'obviously' Mexico isn't going to write a check for a border wall

President Donald Trump claimed Thursday that his oft-made 2016 campaign promise that he would build a wall and Mexico would pay for it didn't mean it would be a direct payment, despite outlining just that scenario during his campaign.

"When during the campaign, I would say 'Mexico is going to pay for it,' obviously, I never said this, and I never meant they're gonna write out a check, I said they're going to pay for it. They are," he said as he prepared to depart the White House for the southern border.

But in April 2016, Trump's campaign outlined the steps he would take to compel Mexico to pay the US "$5-10 billion" to fund a border wall -- a plan that relies largely on threatening to bar undocumented Mexican immigrants in the United States from wiring money to relatives in Mexico.

"It's an easy decision for Mexico: make a one-time payment of $5-10 billion to ensure that $24 billion continues to flow into their country year after year," the memo said.

I think the President and CNN are getting their talking points from this thread.

So it used to be a crisis until orange man bad

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/media-acknowledged-epic-border-crisis-under-obama-what-changed.amp

The Washington Post wrote in 2014, White House requests $3.7 billion in emergency funds for border crisis, while CNN published a feature, Daniel's journey: How thousands of children are creating a crisis in America. It described a problem of "epic proportions."

Around the same time, the Huffington Post declared that photos of the humanitarian crisis along the southern border were shocking, and ABC News reported that Obama requested $3.7 billion to cope with the humanitarian crisis on the border and the spike in illegal crossings by unaccompanied minors from Central America.

U.S. Border Patrol agents estimate the number of got aways (i.e.,subjects who, after making an illegal entry, are not turned back or apprehended) based on direct observation, physical evidence, and intelligence data, as discussed above. As Figure 9 indicates, estimated got aways declined from just over 600,000 in 2006 to a low of just under 100,000 in 2011. Estimated got away s increased to about 170,000 in 2013, before falling back to 106,000 in 2016.

https://www.dhs.gov/sites/default/files/publications/17_0914_estimates-of-border-security.pdf

The number of successful illegal immigrants across the US border decreased 85%. The wall is a waste of money and we would be better suited to use that money to pay down the debt.
