What's Conner worth?

Recommended Posts

Curious about the value of James Conner and Le'Veon Bell.

Anybody traded for or traded away either of these guys and what were the pieces involved?

It's hard to believe that a top 5 RB will essentially be put on the shelf in the next couple of weeks, but it's definitely possible.

I just came to the forearm to gauge their value. I drafted Conner, and I'm now considering trading Carlos Hyde for Bell.

I have David Johnson and Conner as my two 2, and Ingram as well. Hyde has performed fairly well and has been my FLEX, but I'm having a difficult time setting value for Bell.

Yeah, it's even more complicated by the trade rumors around Bell. I have Conner in 3 leagues and don't have Bell in any of them. Conner is 2 week gold, then his value potentially falls off a cliff. Bell has no short term value (which I can live with) but I'm super-fearful of his conditioning and injury risk when he returns (which in theory could still be week 11).

I'm actually giving consideration to trying to acquire Bell in one league as well, since I have Conner. But with thin benches and carrying Barkley, McCaffrey and Mixon in addition to Conner, I really don't have one-for-one trade asset that's not heavily tilted toward my opponent winning the trade. I need a WR but he has nothing on his roster that would upgrade me so getting Bell there is unlikely.

I haven't been able to get anything going involving a trade with Conner.

I'm holding out hope that either Bell is traded or Roethlisberger gets his wish that Conner remains in the mix even when Bell returns.

The Steelers would do well to keep feeding Conor. They are going to probably put bell on a roster exemption for 2 weeks while he gets up to speed and they try to trade with the Jets. So we're looking at week 10 possibly.

Unless the Jets can agree to a contract extension, there's no point in trading for him.

I do like the idea of getting him with fresh legs entering next season though...

In my .5ppr league. I was offered and accepted J. Conner and D.Njoku. for C. Godwin and T. Lockett. I am pretty stacked a WR(M.Evans/M.Thomas/K.Golladay/J.Gordon), and my only healthy RBs are Hyde, David Johnson, and Kerryon. If he ends up in a timeshare with Bell. I won't have lost too much. If he stays the starter though...........

If Bell returns in the Steelers lineup, you will still see Connor involved in the offense, maybe down to 8-12 carries and a handful of receptions but far from invisible, after the circus Bell put on no way will mgmt. hand him the keys to solo in the backfield, and if they fall out of the playoffs expect a 50/50 timeshare knowing what they truly have in Connor or a need on a early round RB draft pick 2019 assuming Bell is elsewhere 2019 season.....

I worry that Bell & Conner will make eachother worthless, or at least cap their value as RB2s at best.

Tried packaging Conner/Bell for Kupp/Howard, but got shot down, FWIW. (non-ppr)

Can we get this straight...once and for all. Any agreement would be verbal only. Le'Veon Bell can ONLY sign one contract, the Franchise one the Steelers have offered him. He cannot negotiate anything else, can't sign an extension, can't do a damned thing. There are four basic options:

1. He signs the franchise tender and plays for the Steelers under that contract because they are prohibited from negotiating anything else

2. He signs the franchise tender from the Steelers and they trade him to another team where he plays under that contract because that team would also be prohibited from negotiating anything else. This is unlikely because a team would have offer the Steelers something fairly significant for a player who would have ZERO guarantee of resigning him next year.

3. He doesn't sign the franchise tender and sits out the season. This will not happen because it would give the Steelers TONS of leverage next year over him. In fact, every week hit sits increases their leverage.

4. The Steelers cut him/rescind the franchise tender. This also will not happen because then he WOULD be free to sign with whatever team he wanted to whatever contract they could negotiate/agree upon. The Steelers would also lose out on any FA compensation they can get by keeping the Franchise tender in place (likely a 3rd round pick).

Reading this post, if indeed they can't trade him, they're going to run him into the ground again.

I'm not so sure. This article hit a lot of what I also believe are big points in the Le'Veon Bell saga

https://www.steelers.com/news/labriola-on-welcome-le-veon-vs-le-veon-who

I'm not so sure he's welcomed back to the locker room, particularly when you're comparing him to a guy like Conner. I have said all along that I think the Steelers DO use the 2 week roster exemption on Bell when he comes back and have also said I think Bell will mysteriously be "injured" the first game he actually comes back and carries the ball 50 times or less this season. I could very well be wrong, but he's handled everything about this year incorrectly in my opinion, so why would the trend change?

I think it's pretty hard to get anything worthwhile in return for Conner. The uncertainty with Bell coming back and how the opportunities are gonna be split when/if he does, makes it unlikely anyone is going to give up a starter for him. And if you're not getting a starter back for Conner you may as well hang on to him and see how things turn out. At the very least if it takes Bell a couple weeks to get into football shape Conner could be a good RB long enough to get you through your other RBs byes. Unless you have Gurley/Hunt in which case by Week 12 it's probably a 50/50 timeshare at least.

In my keeper league I think the best I could hope to get for Conner would be a high but not too high draft pick from someone out of contention who wants a RB to keep. Something like Conner and an 11th round for a 7th rounder.

I believe that I heard that a team could offer Bell some pretty significant incentives for playing in playoff games that would make it worth his while to one, play his heart out to get to the postseason, and two, play his heart out to stay in postseason games. Having established good faith with a playoff contender, maybe he'd stick around.

Trading him could be a possibility

I will say this. I offered a low end WR 1 for bell earlier in the season and it got rejected. Now I would only offer WR2 value or less.

For me this is how I value the whole thing:

  1. Conditioning / chance of injury. The more you are away from the game and not conditioned the higher chance of injury.
  2. If you aren't fit you will lose snap count. Lower snap count = lowervalue.
  3. Less games, means less lifetime value. I can get 16 weeks of value or 4. Trust what is now. In my league the bell owners are 1-4 and are trending 1-5 this week. Assuming week 8 bell comes and the player runs the table they miss the playoffs at 7-9 in my league.
  4. He might get traded but only after signing his tender which means he won't travel to a new team until week 9 (trades end week 8). He then needs to take 2 weeks before playing and still might get rotated into the offense via smallwood and clement.
  5. He shares the backfield with connor because his team hates him. RB-2 value maybe.

Bupkis after this week. Savvy owners traded him for Mixon after he got hurt and before Bell made his plans known.

I just traded Conner to Bell owner for devante Adams. Crazy thing is that is the original offer I made him at the beginning of all this. The way I see it.

1. Bell/conner in some sort of platoon

2. One of them is traded

3. Bell flakes out...fakes injury, continues to hold out till week 10 after not getting traded, rides jet ski who knows

I feel like 1 is the most likely scenario. I think bell is coming back early hoping to get traded, but if he doesnt, I can see him condition/train until week 10.

I feel good getting Adams. I start Barkley/Gordon at RB and have been using conner in flex. 10 team league, I picked 10th and got conner in the 15th.

I missed the part where Bell made his plans known.

Even that is a bit sketchy right now, because according the Steelers Bell hasn't made his plans known to them. I still believe this is a few weeks away from resolution. I still see the 2 week roster exemption coming into play.

I've looked, but all I saw was two ESPN guys saying Bell will be back week 8 -- nothing from Bell, himself. Have you got a link? (He's said he intends to play this year and expects it to be with PIT, but I saw nothing about a date)

Are you talking about the rumor that Lev would play out the season. The rumor that he would be there Saturday week 1? No. The one where he was going to be there Thursday week 2? Week 4? Oh, the rumor from a Pitt sports reporter that said the bye week? Oh that rumor. I'm caught up.

Lev hasn't said anything. Pitt hasn't heard from him. I'd say Thuraday before week 10 to make the roster followed with a roster exemption.

Then when he does play Pitt is at the 1 yard line. Do you think they give him the glory of running in the TD? I don't think so. Lev is done in Pitt.

According to the CBS Sportsline Trade Value Chart (only useful as a baseline), Connor is worth at RB on the High End- Jordan Howard/Carlos Hyde and on the low end- Chris Carson/TJ Yeldon at WR on the high end- Emmanuel Sanders, Will Fuller, and Golden Tate on the low end- Alshon Jeffery, Calvin Ridley, and Julian Edelman. Not perfect, but those ranges seem reasonable for Conner.

What interview? Where's the link? We've been talking about week 8 since ESPN's Fowler reported it, citing only a "source" (and again) but nothing from Bell, himself, as far as I can tell. As a Conner/Bell owner I've been paying close attention to who said what, and ESPN is best met with a healthy skepticism...

Back on topic, the Howard/Kupp owner bit on a counter with Conner/Bell/Ebron, if that helps give people a sense of their worth...

Bell said himself hes reporting during the week 7 bye, coming back for week 8 and will give it his all. Link doesnt matter since you dont believe the source, but thats whats been said. Id think he would have refuted it by now if there was some huge conspiracy and they are just lying.

Bell did not say it himself, not anywhere on public record, anyway; the ESPN article quotes Bell saying only that he will play this year -- the week 8 date comes from a "source," identified separately in that same article. I will gladly stand corrected.

In any case, at this point we're basically just quibbling about whether Bell reports week 8 vs week 10, when he was expected all along. So as it relates to the OP, do those two weeks really make a difference in his value, or rather in Conner's value? Even if Bell comes back next week as rumored, I think Conner gets CLE & probably BAL to himself. That means JAX, DEN and LAC will be a timeshare for both guys, and those are kinda ugly matchups anyway. So if Bell doesn't show up 'til week 10, Conner would at best be a borderline RB2/flex play, still. OAK and NO in the post-season are about the only bright spots left on the schedule, but you can't trust either guy in those most important weeks of the season.

So the take home I'm seeing here is basically: sell for whatever reasonable value you can get for either guy, right now.

Ok so someone is just lying and claiming Bell said it? Hes not refuting it why? Not everything is an elaborate conspiracy. Someone says he said it and he doesnt refute it, thats good enough for me.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, holdout RB Le'Veon Bell has had "no contact" with the Steelers despite his expected return in Week 7.

This story has many layers yet to be written.

I think that the only way he returns at week 8 is if they have a trade in place. Otherwise it's week 10.

I was just offered JJSS for my Conner. Seriously considering taking it.

Fuk dude, thats tough. All depends on your needs. So many unknowns with Conner.

I know, and to make things tougher it's a keeper league. I believe there's almost 0 chance Bell resigns with the Steelers after this year, so I think Conner has a lot of keeper value. But I'm loaded at RB (kept Gurley, Gordon, Hunt) so I'll probably take the surety of JJSS over the who the heck knows what Conner is going to give me in the fantasy playoffs. Although I am tempted to counter offer Hunt for Adams.
