Jailed Russian 'sex coaches' offer to trade election info for US asylum

Didnt CNN send someone to interview her in her Thai prison?

Embarrassing..CNN is a joke....and it's a shame. I think they used to be somewhat respected....until Trump got in, then they lost it, and I mean absolutely lost it.

Now, that being said, I don't watch Fox news and never have, so for all I know they are just as bad from the other side. I just know I used to like CNN back in the day....but this crap is just insanity.

I dont really see whats embarrassing about it? :dunno:

Getting a little down and dirty, yes. But this whole thing is a sordid mess.

Shes known to have cavorted with Russian oligarchs linked to Putin and Trump. She was the source of previous revelations in Russian politics. Theres reason to look into it.

Now ultimately maybe shes full of sh1t. Probably is. But I dont think its at all embarrassing for journalists to follow up on a lead like that.

What's really funny is the right-wing clowns in this thread think we are taking this seriously...more so than she's a serious piece of azz.

The little quote is the gift that keeps on giving.

PATTAYA, Thailand A pair of self-described sex instructors from Belarus have been stuck in a Thai detention center for weeks. They say that they have evidence demonstrating Russian interference in the 2016 presidential campaign in the United States, and that they have offered it to the F.B.I. in exchange for a guarantee of their safety.

Their claim that they are targets of a covert Russian operation to silence them because they know too much might seem outlandish, but their case certainly includes some unusual circumstances.

They have influential enemies in Russia. They were arrested with the help of a foreign spy, according to the Thai police, and locked up on what is a fairly minor offense: working without a permit. And the F.B.I. tried to talk to the pair, suggesting that American investigators had not dismissed their account out of hand.

They know we have more information, one of the pair, Alexander Kirillov, 38, told The New York Times last month in an unauthorized phone call from the detention center, in Bangkok. Mr. Kirillov said his co-defendant, Anastasia Vashukevich, 27, had angered some powerful people. They know she knows a lot, he said. And thats why they made this case against us.

Ms. Vashukevich certainly knows how to get attention. In February, a top critic of Russias president, Vladimir V. Putin, released a video that included footage she recorded during a brief affair she had with a Russian aluminum tycoon while working as an escort aboard his yacht in 2016. The evidence included photos she posted of the tycoon and his guest, Sergei E. Prikhodko, a deputy prime minister, and a recording of them talking about relations between the United States and Russia.

The aluminum tycoon, Oleg V. Deripaska, has close ties with Mr. Putin and with Paul Manafort, President Trumps former campaign chairman, who has been indicted on money laundering charges by Robert S. Mueller III, the special counsel looking into election interference.

Lots more at the link.

It's a huge roll of the dice to talk to these people. Should the FBI talk to them, and they are the shysters that we all think they are, then the FBI looks really bad. Especially when they claim to have covertly obtained evidence about very powerful people. Honestly, what are the odds they have anything useful, vs the damage done by giving them any credibility at all.

It seems more productive to gather information, then determine what is credible.......as opposed to determining what info is credible before even knowing what it is.

But maybe that type of thinking is why I'm not an FBI agent.

Does that mean you interview anyone who claims to have information, no matter how far fetched the story? Eventually you will have to stand before a judge and explain your fact finding methods.

Taking these people seriously won't help Russian relations even if the information is fruitful. If it's not fruitful, the FBI really looks like clowns, which, given to current climate, ain't good.

Do I interview anyone that claims to have info? No.

Do I interview anyone that claims to have info and is also on videotape with a billionaire tycoon with ties to both Putin and Manafort, and a Russian Deputy Prime Minister? Personally, yes I interview that person.

In the end, I imagine I'd have interviewed a large number of people that I determined to have no information of importance whatsoever. I don't believe said thoroughness would be a negative.

You would do what you would do. The only upside to interviewing a and her pimp about their escapades with a Russian billionaire is finding the smoking gun, the rest will appear to be blackmail fodder. One in a million they have the smoking gun.

You know I thought this Russia chick was something that would could unite the people of the left and the right, but I totally forgot about the Log Cabin Republicans.

You know what I find funny, the only time I hear people saying something to the affect of "this could unite....", it's a from a leftist about a topic that the conservatives should admit they're wrong and agree with the Lefty's, but never the other way around.
