Plane engine explodes mid flight

Recommended Posts

Maybe fat people should only sit next to the window...with their seatbelt off, just in case. If she didn't plug the hole, more people could have been sucked out. A fat person plugs the hole every time. Also, losing a fat person is a win-win.

She should have kept her seatbelt on.

According to reports, she did have her seatbelt on. There is more to the story. The nurse who gave her CPR said that the woman had massive trauma from hitting the wing with her face when she got sucked out of the window. :o

Must not have been securely fastened and only loose around her because it should not have allowed here body to get sucked out.

She had her head sticking out the window of a jet at cruising speeds, of course she had massive trauma.

Well that was dumb of her

Sounds like it's going to be metal fatigue as the culprit.. Pretty much the same thing that happened and took down the United Airlines 232 - the Sioux City crash.

Sucks a passenger died, but could of been much worse if the hydraulic lines had been severed... Awesome job by the pilots.

Well, I think that she was out beyond her shoulders, so I would expect plenty of trauma, but the nurse said that she had hit the wing, which seems like she was really far out there. If so, how the hell did they get her back in? :dunno:

This is why I call bull on this story. Absolutely she did not hit the wing, unless it was on the way to a freefall to the ground. If anything beyond her head was outside of that window, they wouldn't be able to pull her back.

I agree. My guess is that her head went out the window and it wasn't exactly a smooth exit. She was pretty well messed up at that point. They pulled her back in and tried CPR, but the damage was already done by that point. Heck, even if they landed right away, she wouldn't have made it.

Those windows always looked too small to me for a person to fit through.

Can you breathe with your head out the window at 30,000 feet? I kinda doubt it, certainly not well anyway. That mightve been part of the issue too.

Well, I would think that even with reduced air density, Getting hit by 500 mph air is kinda like a constant face punch. :dunno:

look what wind does to a dogs face hanging out the window at 25mph. She certainly couldn't have hit the wing unless she was fully ejected.

Id think it would snap your neck. Reports are saying debris from the wing hit her head...Still--not so sure about that

That's what I said.

No, you don't get it. There are less molecules at 30k feet.

Exactly. ;)

As others have said. No way she hit her head on the wing. It's too far below her window. She got nailed by shrapnel as she was climbing out to check out the engine. That will be in the next pre flight instructions. 'And remember, at no time are you to try and crawl out your window to inspect the plane'.

I just see this blowing up massively simply cause it's a woman.

Initially I assumed it probably wasn't that impressive for this reason. It was impressive though. She's a cool lady. Calm and really sweet, but also able to get laser focused, and obviously was always ambitious. Traits that aren't normally packaged together.

As a child, Shults had watched Air Force planes fly over her family’s New Mexico ranch, according to the book Military Fly Moms, by Linda Maloney. She read Jungle Pilot, a book about the missionary pilot Nate Saint. She sought out an aviation lecture by a retired colonel during her high school’s vocational day.

“He started the class by asking me, the only girl in attendance, if I was lost,” she recounted in the Maloney book. “I mustered up the courage to assure him I was not and that I was interested in flying. He allowed me to stay but assured me there were no professional women pilots.

“I did not say another word. In my heart, I hoped that God had given me an interest in flying for a reason. I had never touched an airplane, but I knew flying was my future. My junior year in college, I met a girl who had just received her Air Force wings. My heart jumped. Girls did fly! I set to work trying to break into the club.”

The Air Force denied her entry, so she began taking an exam to become a pilot for the Navy, according to Military Fly Moms. About a year later, she found a recruiter who agreed to process her application. Two months later, she buzzed her hair and headed to flight training in Pensacola, Fla.

She was commissioned in the Navy on June 21, 1985.

During her years of service, she met Dean Shults, another Navy pilot, who, she joked in Military Fly Moms, was her “knight in shining airplane.” The two married and later became pilots for Southwest Airlines in the early 1990s.

Is that blood aft of the broken window? Kind of a pinkish hue.

Call in the blood splatter experts.
