Why do people use "an" wrong?

Recommended Posts

So a very minor but infuriating thing I see online is using an and a. Here are some examples..Id like AN apple, I want to go to A grocery store, I want A new car. you get the point. But I see sentences like this..."I want to wear an jacket." I mean, im absolutely no grammar nazi, its not about that. Its just about the way the sentence comes to a screeching halt when you read it. It just feels wrong! I can understand using A in place of both.."Id like AN ice cream cone." vs "Id like A ice cream cone." sure the second one sounds kinda dumb but it still flows. Saying. "I want AN day off from work." Just feels like my sentence is hitting a brick wall. I dunno, its just one of those things that makes no sense to me. I frequently take shortcuts and leave commas out etc, but using AN in the wrong place just feels like nails on a chalkboard. How can someone type that and have it seem ok?

Your just being sensitive. Weather or not people are using it write shouldn't bee a big deal.

See, your sentence is fine to me since it at least flows. I dont care about spelling mistakes, it just ties my tongue to see AN sentence like the ones in my post.

What's the difference between an & and, when spoken?

B is the way it sounds correct, but I wouldn't care if you said A hour. Your missing the point, I'm not talking grammar rules here, I'm talking how it sounds. An hour. That sounds right. An apple. That sounds right. An car. C'mon that just sounds weird and obviously wrong.

You know what blows my mind every focking time? I live in Arizona right. I like to fix up old cars. At least once every 3 months, and I don't look that much, I see a "Camero" advertised on Craigslist. There's a picture of the 1997 pos car ... says right on the car in your picture, CAMARO. If you can't even spell with the letters right there in your picture ... I dunno. Maybe it's a Mexican thing I just don't understand.

Someone should do a socialogical experiment and find out why some people can't spell Camaro.

My last boss couldn't spell Camaro correctly. 30+ years in the auto industry and every work order that came out for a camaro was spelled camero.

Then again, he was born in Canada.

No kidding. If I see a sentence like "tanatastic is a idiot." I figure that the author originally typed "tanatastic is a whiny doosh idiot" but thought it was too harsh, deleted the adjectives, but forgot to change the "a". :dunno:
