Jameis Winston: 3 game suspension reported

Recommended Posts

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/06/21/reports-jameis-winston-to-be-suspended-three-games-will-not-appeal/

Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston is expected to be suspended for three games as a result of the accusation that he groped an Uber driver in March of 2016.

The looming suspension was first reported by ESPN Radio in Tallahassee and has now been confirmed by multiple reporters.

I like this bit from another article on Winston talking to some kids at a school:

Winston says the following when talking about how men should be strong: “...But the ladies, they’re supposed to be silent, polite, gentle. My men, my men [are] supposed to be strong. I want y’all to tell me what the third rule of life is: I can do anything I put my mind to. Scream it!”

To which columnist Jones responded: “Ugh. Did Winston really say girls are supposed to be silent?”

At least one girl in the class took it that way. She protested to a teacher, “I’m strong too.”

Winston is teaching them early on in their lives so when they become UBER drivers they know what their place is on this earth.

I don"t see any dropoff at QB play to start the season, although I am not high on Winston to start with. Tampa could have a very good offense with an Alex Smith type QB.

3-games Saints, Eagles, and Pittsburg

The bug eyed, unstable, loser is happy about not having to lose the 1st 3 games of the year. His plan is come in, face the Bears and Browns over the next 3 weeks, get some wins and dupe the 2nd dumbest franchise in the NFL into resigning him to a huge contract.

HEADBUTT!!!!!!! The guy is a retard. Eat and die, Capella, you stupid fucktard.

They won't beat the Bears. And possibly not the Browns either.

I hope to see the Winston supporters in here telling us how it's not his fault that he is constantly at the center of some unsavory stories. Class act.

I don't remember seeing any on here who did that.

That was more so occuring during his draft year. All his college stealing and punkdom.

Personally, I wasn't really a fan of drafting him. I'm pretty sure I've mentioned it here as well, that his immaturity issues scare me. As a player, I think he's doing "ok". Certainly not living up to expectations, but not where he's garbage. I'm fine with seeing what happens this year. They already picked up his 2019 option, so he in essence has 2 seasons and an offseason to go from "complete dumbazz" to "franchise QB". If he doesn't, then the Bucs should just cut bait and draft a new guy in 2020.

I will say this, if the season goes awry this year and the Bucs are in position to draft a good QB in the top 5-7 picks, then I'd draft him. Make it a competition in 2019 and see what happens.

I'm actually not upset about it since I don't think Mariota is all that good either. If the Bucs have to move on from Winston after this year or next year, that's ok, we'll just look for another QB. After this season, the Titans may have to sign Mariota to a top 5 QB deal for the next 7 years and he may never be anything more than a mediocre / below average QB. Think Joe Flacco without the rings.

A kid? When do people become adults in your world?

Exactly. The trend of poor decision making hasn't stopped. After college, he had this Uber incident, the talk to the school kids last year, and on the field issues this past season. He's 24 YEAR OLD! He's getting married. Not going to hear any crap about him being a "kid". Bullsh!t.

He watches wrasslin. So probably like around age 40 in his world.

I did think Winston wouldngrow up some. They have always said he is a solid leader. But I guess he doesnt want to grow up. Its one thing if you are a WR or something. But a #1 pick franchise QB is a different thing.

Sexual assault. Those two words seem to follow this guy wherever he goes.

His game is similar to Bryon Leftwich. He'll never be a star in this league. I would just cut this bum.

Sexual assault is a serious matter.

A couple guys on NFL radio said yesterday that it was reported that winston negotiated down to 3 games from 6 by waiving his rights to appeal the suspension. This helps both winston and the NFL by keeping it out of the courts and therefore out of the news on a daily basis.

I wonder what Elliott and others think of this allowance by the NFL. And I wonder what is going to happen when the next idiot get's a 6 game suspension then screams, "Hey, Winston admitted to sexual assault and only got 3 games!!" You know this will happen.

It's official.

Jameis Winston was suspended for the first three games of the 2018 season on Thursday, as the NFL said its investigation found the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback inappropriately touched a female Uber driver in March 2016 in Scottsdale, Arizona.

In a statement, the NFL said Winston violated the league's personal conduct policy "by touching the driver in an inappropriate and sexual manner without her consent."

"First and foremost, I would like to say I'm sorry to the Uber driver for the position I put you in. It is uncharacteristic of me and I genuinely apologize," Winston said in a statement. "I apologize to my teammates, the Buccaneers organization and fans for letting them down and for not being able to be out there for the first three games of the season.

"Although I am disappointed in the NFL's decision, I understand the NFL's process, and I embrace this as an opportunity to take advantage of the resources available to help me achieve the goals that I have for myself."

He gone.

If he is, then so be it, I won't be upset. BUT, it's going to come down to wins and losses. We all know in the NFL, that wins are more important than PR. If the Bucs win 9+ games this year and next year and make the playoffs both seasons, then he'll get an extension. If they don't, he'll be looking for a new job, which would be ok with me.

Fans never change. A qb can be a detriment, but if a team limps into the playoffs he is praised and given an extension.

Not if you are Alex Smith or the Chiefs. Smith was good though.

Yeah, just look at Ben Roethlisberger as proof, or even Peyton Manning. No one cares now that Ben raped a girl in the bathroom (yes, having sex with a girl who is drunk is rape [see Brock Turner]). No one cares now that Peyton put his nuts on a trainers mouth. Nope, but they're going into the H.O.F. though, aren't they?

I was talking more about the on field performance. I don't think Winston is very good as a qb. He can have good games against poor defenses, but he will never be able to sustain offense through the playoffs

Where are you quoting that from? That's a pretty ridiculous and inaccurate statement.

A previous Manager of mine was very skeptical of TB taking Winston at overall #1, based on his history in college, of being a knuckle-head. Looks like he had foresight, hunh? (I don't follow college football; FYI.)

Another classic example of a guy being babied / getting whatever he wanted, with N-O repercussions for his actions - through his college career, getting a reality -slap by the league.

I don't think he's all that good either, but I'm not going to write him off... like you did 3 years ago. He's consistently been on a team with significant holes, either no WR depth (like his rookie season), mediocre to poor play on his OLine (all 3 seasons), a below average defense (all 3 seasons), and a horrible running game (the last 2 seasons). Yet, his numbers went up each year and the team won 6 games his first year and 9 his second, before dropping down to 5 last year. He has good games and bad games... a lot of young QB's do. Every young QB that you can point to, whose teams won more games, had great defenses (see Roethlisberger, Flacco, and Wentz).

I felt the exact same way. To note, I wasn't a big fan of Mariota either. My feelings on the subject at the time were, if the Bucs were going to definitely take a QB, I'd rather it be Winston, but my preference was for the Bucs to trade down. Reason being, I thought Mariota would be a "meh" QB that may linger for a long time (see Tannehill [heading into year 7]), with no real tangible results. I'd rather have a guy either be a definitive stud or just bust. Either give him a long term deal and cement his legacy or cut bait. Right now, things are working out that way. Winston has 2 years to prove he's worth a long term investment. If the distractions are greater than the results, we'll have a new QB in 2020 where as the Titans will be still hovering around .500.

Mariota is going to cement his next contract this season.

He was on a trash roster his first year. Looked pretty good for a rookie.

Last year, he was held back by a system that was the polar opposite of one designed to his strengths.

This year, with competent oc, hes going to shine. Been working hard on his footwork. Coming in healthy for a change. Should have a decent supporting cast.

The leadership and clutch he showed last year was a great sign last year. He will leave Jameis in the dust this season.
