Finally something that really promotes unity! Black only orientation day at U of San Fran

The University of San Francisco this week is scheduled to host a segregated orientation dedicated to black students, a program that takes place in addition to its standard welcoming activities for all students.

The Black Student Orientation is slated for Aug. 18, the day prior to the universitys New Student Orientation.

The day-long eventbilled as having been designed by Black students, faculty, and staff to welcome new Black students to the USF Black Experiencewill address the specific and particular needs of African American/Black students at USF, according to the schools website.

The program includes workshops such as Community Building and Creating a 4 Year Plan.

The College Fix reached out to Kim Harris, assistant director of orientation programs at the private, Catholic institution, to ask if the school provides any other ethnic-based orientation programs.

Not that I know of, Harris responded via e-mail. But we do have a mostly first generation [orientation] programThis group is comprised mostly of students of color.

Harris told The Fix that the Black Student Orientation is being run by Dr. JaNina Garrett-Walker, an assistant professor in the department of psychology at the university.

The Fix reached out repeatedly to Garrett-Walker for comment regarding the history of the Black Student Orientation, as well as for elaboration on the specific and particular needs of African American/Black Students at USF. Garrett-Walker did not respond.

Garrett-Walker has a history of activism at the University of San Francisco. In 2014, she implemented a campus-wide campaign called Check Your Privilege, designed to raise awareness of social inequality and privilege.

The campaign defined privilege as unearned access to social power based on membership in a dominant social group. Participants were encouraged to sport t-shirts that indicated the attributes that applied to themwith permanent markers, they could check off items such as White, Male, Christian, and Cisgender.

One poster associated with the campaign informed readers: If youre confident that the police exist to protect you, you have white male privilege, while another claimed that the expectation of having holidays off of work denotes Christian privilege.

On Garrett-Walkers website faculty profile, her research area is listed as identity development for Black lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender adolescents and emerging adults.

Earlier this year, The College Fix reached out to the University of San Francisco for information regarding a White Privilege Resource Guide created by the university in the wake of Garrett-Walkers privilege campaign. Following The Fixs inquiry, USF attempted to cover up the identity of the author of the guide.

So their ancestors fought and marched for integration only for them to willingly choose segregation? Talk about moving backwards

What do you expect from people who are against free speech?

If you're confident your University respects you and your opinion, will help you get in and won't insult or harass (edit out lecture) you, you have liberal black privilege.

Aren't they supposed to lecture you? :dunno:

I honestly don't have a problem with these types of programs. I mean they are spitting in the face of their past civil rights leaders who worked so hard at integration, but that's their choice.

Frankly black people need more help in society. It's pretty clear their communties are riddled with crime, abuse and drugs so the ones who do make it out probably need a little more help to function normally.

The problem is y they get too much help already. Baby momma's are mass breeding to stay on the Government tit, creating fatherless families with no moral backbone.

Yup. Welfare has broke up the black home and it's been all downhill from there.

Not to defend Jesse Jackson but I remember when ebonics was all the rage.

He actually came out against it big time. Said American kids, whatever race, should be taught how to properly use the language and not have it changed to fit a particular culture. Wonder what he thinks here.

As much as good ol Jesse can annoy me, I respected him a little when he did that

Agreed. On a side note, does anyone know?why "axe" instead of "ask" became so mainstream? Its not that AAs are unable to say other words that start with "as". Just curious.

A thread about blacks going to college and the rightie retards go on a rant about welfare and lazy blacks.

Seems to me these are youngsters trying to break the cycle.

What cycle is that?

This doesn't register on my care-o-meter. I feel like MIT had an early orientation for minorities, or women, or both when I was there (women being a minority at an engineering school). My thought was "hmm, makes sense. Where's the keg?" :dunno:

the cycle the racists above love to complain about.

Democrats will never let them break the cycle.

Democrats will never let them break the cycle.

This is the sad part...both left and right play this political game to not lose votes. Dems keep their feet on the throats of the empoverished, needy, and pander to the LBGTQ crowds just enough to keep their attention. If all socio-economic problems were really solved, the need for big, invasive government would drop dramatically.

The right is just as bad. The simple, impressionable voters are having the "darkies and queers are taking over" fear tactic shoved down throat in order to keep them towing the party line.

Martin Luther King must be so proud

Shiftless and lazy.

While I won't get into the obvious stereotypes and racism in these mental midgets' posts, it just seems a bit misplaced in a thread about black kids who are furthering their education and trying to be the exact opposite of all of this. Hmmmm, could it just be a bunch of racist ass holes just trying to shoehorn their bigoted thoughts into a thread about blacks? Trump's America! MAGA

Hey sh!tstain,

Using statistical facts doesn't make me a racist. You don't get to label me.

Black children living in single parent households has been consistently above 65%.

Perhaps you missed the main point of my post

"it just seems a bit misplaced in a thread about black kids who are furthering their education and trying to be the exact opposite of all of this"

Listen, pussie, you have every right to be a racist piece of sh1t. It's one of your freedoms. Hitler's soldiers were proud too. It just seemed like a dumb post to be trying to make your point. Go find one about crime or something. This is about black teens entering college.

No it isn't. It's about blacks wanting to be separated. My question is why?

The post ahead of me suggested that Blacks need more help to flourish. My post said that the "help" they are getting is tearing apart their families and making things worse. That doesn't make me a racist, so settle down Mr. internet tough guy.

Oh please. What's with all of you and hating to be called what you are? Wear it proud or change your views. Only thing worse than a focking racist is one who is too much of a pussie to admit it.
