Yeah. Too many to list.

Everything S King wrote

Most of Tom Clancy when Tom Clancy wrote them - none of the ghost writers using his name.

Same thing with The Jason Bourne series.

The Martian was great.

A hell of a lot more including biographies and autobiographies of musicians and athletes.

All time favorite is - The Count of Monte Crisco. READ IT.

Everything King wrote? The OP had The Talisman. Read it on an acid binge. Long novel. Took me two days. Hated the ending as I do all Kings books.

Poe was great. All time great story teller. The Black Cat was my favorite.

Biographies were my favorite. Anything from the forties to seventies.

My favorite book is called hitlers willing executioners. About how the german people all knew what was going on and were willing participants. How it was bred into them the culture that allowed it to happen.

Same here. Easy to rack up the book count when you have young kids.

Im on my fourth book this week. But I spend at least two hours a day on a bus, have a three hour lunch break, and this week was a three day weekend.

I tend to read in spurts. Ill have weeks where I mow through 5 or 6 books, then I wont read at all for a while. Just depends on whether I can find anything good to read, or if I am binge watching a good show or something.

So far this week...

First they killed my father, by Loung Ung - the story of a girl growing up under the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia. Obviously very sad. Apparently there is a movie made last year and a Netflix show as well.

The Gift of Rain, by Tan Twan Eng - story of a young man living in Malaysia during the Japanese occupation. Pretty damn good.

Miss Bangkok, Memoirs of a Thai prostitute, by Bua Boonmee - title really says it all. Chick ends up whoring in the Red light district of Bangkok to support her three kids. Pretty focking sad.

Wave of Terror, by Theodore Odrach - a rural village in Belorussia is taken over by the soviets in the late 30s. Hilarity does not ensue.

Man, I think I need to pick a happier one for my next read.

Have you ever read Churchills war memoirs? The WWII ones are in five volumes I think. Very good. It shows a kind of inside look at what was really going on. Obviously, he wrote it after the fact, so he probably makes himself look better than it really was. But he writes well, and it is pretty entertaining.

He has a WWI set as well, but I havent read those.

There is one count of Monte Cristo movie that was pretty good. Was made in the early 2000s as I recall.

Yeah, 2002. This version is decent.

I loved Dumas as a kid. The Three Musketeers, Count of Monte Cristo, Man in the Iron mask... all excellent.

I use goodreads.

What I like about it is you can put what youve read in different shelves. By topic, place, whatever. Then they will recommend other books similar to those.

I get lots of recommendations on there. They also have discussion groups and clubs and stuff. I am in a travel book club through a travel forum, its fun.

When I am not diving I love to read fiction. Crime series are my favorites.

The best IMO are the 35 or so books by Michael Connelly (20 Harry Bosh plus Lincoln Lawyer, Welling, McCaleb ,and FBI fiction books.) Best written IMO of any of them. the Eastwood movie Blood Work was from one of his books. There is a series on Amazon about Bosch but never saw it. Afraid they would ruin my 2nd favorite character.

21 book Travis McGee series by McDonald Written '64 to early 80's Real Classics.. I went back and reread in order a few years ago. Way ahead of their time. Travis McGee is my favorite character in any series I have read.

Lately I got through around 20 of the the Victor Menthos books. Stanton are the best but these are all really dark and disturbing.

All the Reacher Books by Childs those are really hit and miss.

Was into Stephen King in my college days but got away from them. Read most of his work before 2000 plus a handful after.

Ain't nobody got time to list every book they have read. That would be in the hundreds.

Some of my favorites:

Michael Connelly, The Harry Bosch and Lincoln Lawyer series. I have read every book in both series and some twice because I forgot I read them already  The Bosch series on Amazon is Awesome. They do the books justice. Tremendous cast, Titus Welliver (Deadwood) and a whole bunch of people from The Wire.

Craig Johnson, the Longmire series. Read all but the last 2-3. For anyone who liked the Neflix show I highly recommend the books.

Both write solid detective stories and do a tremendous job of bringing the setting to life (Los Angeles and northern Wyoming respectively)

Also a fan of adventure/travel books. Currently reading Desert Solitaire by Edward Abbey.

Thanks for the info on the Bosch Amazon series. Check out the Flowers series by Stanford as well as the Prey books. The Flowers books are all good. The Prey ones drop off a lot when he gets married and stops being just a cop.

The Martian was a great book. The movie was good but they cut a lot of the best part about the dust storm from the book due to time constraints. Really good book though. My only thing with the audios is if they are abridged they cut out a lot.

I forgot about Prey.

I listened to half a dozen or so last year, and I agree, they were very good until he and the doctor got married. I guess that is why I moved on. That first book was a shock to the system after coming from a bunch of Wyoming stories. The stalker/rapist/murderer. Some of those books were disturbing with how graphic and demented the killers were.

I'll have to check out the Flowers series.

Most people could easily do so. I'd say most people never read a book once they leave school.

Travel adventure is my favorite genre at the moment to. I used to read lots and lots of fantasy, but have lost interest (partly because I get sick of waiting decades for a focking series to end). I read a good bit of popular history and historical fiction too.

Some of my favorite in the travel/adventure genre you may like...

My Friend the Mercenary - James Brabazon - In February 2002, British journalist James Brabazon set out to travel with guerrilla forces into Liberia to show the world what was happening in that war-torn country. To protect him, he hired Nick du Toit, a former South African Defence Force soldier who had fought in conflicts across Africa for over three decades. What follows is an incredible behind-the-scenes account of the Liberian rebels — known as the LURD — as they attempt to seize control of the country from government troops led by President Charles Taylor. In this gripping narrative, James Brabazon paints a brilliant portrait of the chaos that tore West Africa apart: nations run by warlords and kleptocrats, rebels fighting to displace them, ordinary people caught in the crossfire — and everywhere adventurers and mercenaries operating in war's dark shadows. It is a brutally honest book about what it takes to be a journalist, survivor, and friend in this morally corrosive crucible.

Dark Star Safari: Overland From Cairo to Cape Town - Paul Therroux - In Dark Star Safari the wittily observant and endearingly irascible Paul Theroux takes readers the length of Africa by rattletrap bus, dugout canoe, cattle truck, armed convoy, ferry, and train. In the course of his epic and enlightening journey, he endures danger, delay, and dismaying circumstances.

Gauging the state of affairs, he talks to Africans, aid workers, missionaries, and tourists. What results is an insightful mediation on the history, politics, and beauty of Africa and its people.

Shantaram - Gregory David Roberts - This may be my favorite book of all time. "It took me a long time and most of the world to learn what I know about love and fate and the choices we make, but the heart of it came to me in an instant, while I was chained to a wall and being tortured."

So begins this epic, mesmerizing first novel set in the underworld of contemporary Bombay. Shantaram is narrated by Lin, an escaped convict with a false passport who flees maximum security prison in Australia for the teeming streets of a city where he can disappear.

Accompanied by his guide and faithful friend, Prabaker, the two enter Bombay's hidden society of beggars and gangsters, prostitutes and holy men, soldiers and actors, and Indians and exiles from other countries, who seek in this remarkable place what they cannot find elsewhere.

As a hunted man without a home, family, or identity, Lin searches for love and meaning while running a clinic in one of the city's poorest slums, and serving his apprenticeship in the dark arts of the Bombay mafia. The search leads him to war, prison torture, murder, and a series of enigmatic and bloody betrayals. The keys to unlock the mysteries and intrigues that bind Lin are held by two people. The first is Khader Khan: mafia godfather, criminal-philosopher-saint, and mentor to Lin in the underworld of the Golden City. The second is Karla: elusive, dangerous, and beautiful, whose passions are driven by secrets that torment her and yet give her a terrible power.

Burning slums and five-star hotels, romantic love and prison agonies, criminal wars and Bollywood films, spiritual gurus and mujaheddin guerrillas – this huge novel has the world of human experience in its reach, and a passionate love for India at its heart. Based on the life of the author, it is by any measure the debut of an extraordinary voice in literature.

I could go on and on, but I'll stop. The last one is seriously amazing. It and the sequel. Great story, and beautiful writing, look at the human condition, yada yada.

Technically only completed the first two cover-to-cover. I have no idea how people have the patience to read. :dunno:
