NFL & Fox reach deal on Thursday Night Football

Recommended Posts

Per Adam Schefter...

Personally, I'm all for doing away with Thursday Night Football, but apparently that's not going to happen...

NFL reached an agreement with FOX Sports to broadcast the next five seasons of Thursday Night Football beginning with the 2018 season - at $660 million per year.

I agree. Thursdays and out of country games are ridiculous.

But money talks.

Really reveals the hypocrisy of the NFL when it comes to player safety and competitive balance.

I'm not a big fan of Thursday games either, but that's because of the quality of the games. Let's not pretend this is the "evil NFL" in a "all for money grab". If the players "really hated" Thursday night games, they'd make sure the CBA prohibited it. But they won't, because that's more money they get. If my recollection is correct, the players get about 48% of the revenues in the NFL. If that's correct, the players just got over $300M per year, to split among them. The players want the money too. I'm not going to pay attention to their fake tears and playing the victim until they step up and take ownership for themselves. If the players come to the next CBA contract table and refuse to play on Thursday nights, then I'll listen to them... until then, they get no sympathy from me.

I'm glad it's back.

Extra day for NFL games is good times.

Friday would have been better, but a Friday night game added on with a Thursday night game would be extra good.

Well if you consider the NFL as the owners + the players' association, then yes it is all about the $$. To your point, any player that complains about Thursday night games should shut up and anyone who complains about fantasy football (Richard Sherman) should also shut up considering how much extra money those two things put in their pockets.

Personally, I think it would be perfect if the only Thursday games were opening night and Thanksgiving. Games on three nights every week is a bit much.

Love having football on Thursdays...like who cares if it sucks....that same matchup will mostly likely suck on Sunday too and guess what? It probably won't be on TV or you won't be watching it if is. I want more football!

All I wish is that TNF would not be divisional or intra-conference games. That's really my only issue with the product. It should be the AFC/NFC games only.

I forget who it was, but someone here a few years ago had the solution. The teams on the TNF play after their bye week. So rather than 4 days to prep, they get 11, then a long weekend to recover. I thought it was a smart plan.

Anyone know if the same .. "scheduling" will apply? As in - NFL Network ONLY the last 8 games?!

But - damn! I thought I read somewhere that the previous broadcaster paid "only" $450M a year for the TNF package. Goodell AGAIN earned his (outrageous) salary..

Dont forget Tuesday and Wednesday.

I would disagree with you.

Thursday and Friday only, why do you think Tuesday and Wednesday would work?

I was joking. I think football is on too many time slots as is.

Yep - why not just overexpose the NFL even more? What a joke this league has become. One scandal after another. Horrible rule changes. They still cant REALLY tell you what a catch is. The Patriots have sucked all the credibility out of the Super Bowl. Focking lame.

I heard Patrick Peterson say the same thing on ESPN radio today so the NFL is aware of this solution.

So only TNF during by weeks. Is that what the league wants?
