City you've visited with the best food

Recommended Posts

What city have you been to that had the best restaurants and food?

NYC seems to have some amazing food joints. I confess last time I was there was when I was younger than 10 so I don't remember much. But I need to go back to check out the places

sf

ny

new orleans

seattle

boston

chicago

miami

LA

the rest have regional specialties, but these cities excel at more (though new orleans is less strong with their breadth)

I go to Baltimore for the food.

I am really enjoying the seafood, and more specifically the crab options while I am out here. It's like 50% of my diet. Also, the bar attatched to my hotel has some really excellent dishes that are reasonably priced.

I was also schooled a bit on the importance of crab to Maryland. Which I still don't quite get, but it tastes good for sure.

Oh yea. Maryland has some really good crab and crab dishes. I lived there for a couple years back in the late 90s when my moms job took her there. We lived in Columbia, Maryland. Lots of fun stuff to do there and crabbing was a way of life for them. Loved going to the harbor to get fresh crab off the boat, having them steamed, and cracking open the shells to eat them.

Two that come to mind are New Orleans for creole and Newport RI for seafood.

I agree with NO!

I know I'll probably catch hell for it but Vegas has some really good restaurants.

I know everyone raves about New Orleans, but I was underwhelmed. Too heavy with sauces, and Cajun/creole is like the 4th best type of spicy food after Thai, Indian and Mexican.

i think vegas has a lot of great restaurants. it gives me an opportunity to visit restaurants of eastern celeb chefs that i likely would not otherwise experience (palmer, mario, bobby flay, robeuhon, todd english, etc)

i think the food is excellent in new orleans, they just do not have an abundance of other cuisine

Help me to understand what you like about NO cuisine. All the local delicacies - crawfish, gator, snapping turtle, etc. are no better than regular seafood IMO. It all starts to taste the same very quickly.

i love etouffee, po boys, creole bbq shrimp, blackened fish, gumbo and jambalaya are similar but i still like them.

i enjoy how cajun/creole fuses cultures and adds a little heat.

Domestically, ill have to say my hometown of Memphis. God I miss that BBQ.

Internationally, it's a tie between Paris and Kuala Lumpur. The French food in Paris obviously, and in KL, the Indian food is spectacular.

Actually the hotel we always stay at is in Columbia - Executive Park Drive. Exit 1B off route 100. Like the neighborhood for sure.

I know I've said this before

I have been to KL a couple times, the food is average. Much better international cuisine.

I don't remember where exactly we lived. We stayed there for 2-3 years when I was like 8-9. But the neighborhood was great. Tons of kids my age that I was able hang out with. Had a church across the street from us that had a giant hill that we always went sledding down when it snowed. It was a great place to live. I just didn't like being that far from the rest of my family back in SC. If I could take the area and things to do from Maryland and pair it with my old house from Lexington, SC along with all my family and friends from my old hometown in Dillon, SC then it would be perfect. House in Lexington was 3 stories, had a waterfall out back, tons of land, a creek behind it to fish in, entire downstairs was a game room for me with a bar, and intercoms throughout the house. Place was perfect except the previous owner decided to fill in his swimming pool with cement and cover it. So it didn't have a pool like my house in Dillon did

I know we did a thread like this recently but don't recall... are we picking cuisines or overall quality of food? If cuisines, then I'd put cajun and thus NO about dead last. As somebody else pointed out, freakishly similar taste. Po boy, really, that is top end? Blackened? Meh...

If we're talking cuisine my favorite is probably what you'd call meditaranian seafood. There's a byob here in Philly called Dimitris. Greek salad wirh feta cucumber and pepperoncini, grilled octopus, spanicopita, toasted pita nom nom nom nom ...

Philly is an awesome food town, there's just no dominant cuisine here. Same with NYC.

Well I'll be going to all three in September. Venice, Florence, and Rome. So I'll get to try all that delicious pasta and drink some excellent wine

I was referring more to dives and street food type stuff than cuisine per se.
