He can't do worse than Jim Buss/Mitch Kupchak have been doing that last few years. I wish they could bring back Jerry Buss. No coincidence that now that he works for GS they are dominant.

Here's hoping this is the kick in the ass the Lakers need to win a few games so their top-3 protected pick conveys to the 76ers.

This has FAIL written all over it... What is it with these guys? Super rich, HOF, titles out the ass - and can't simply enjoy retirement and their gazillion $$$... Are their egos that focking big?

Now does Philip come back?

Maybe he can start banging that fine west coast poosay instead of those musty 4's back in New York City

Riley did it, player/coach/GM. Phil was an okay player, great coach, FAIL at running the Knicks. Bird hasn't been terrible in Indiana, either as coach or gm, but he hasn't won anything either there.

Unless I'm forgetting someone, looks like the list is pretty much Riley for all 3.

I'm not sure Riley is the same thing as a Magic Johnson, nor is Phil... Unless you were a mega superstar player it's not comparable... Bird is the closest thing we've seen - and like you said, he never won anything away from playing.

The problem with HOF superstars running teams and/or coaching - they've 1) no patience to build teams with kids 2) their model for building team involves FA and veterans and 3) they've no eye for young talent.

Agree, about Riley/Phil, not HOF players, should have been much more clear about stipulating that in my original post. Jordan's skipped the coaching thing, but his early attempts at being a GM is the text book case of what you said(he has seemed to improved a bit lately).

Should've hired one of his aides instead

His HIV thing is the 2nd greatest hoax since Stevie Wonder being blind.

It's trade deadline week. My guess is Magic wanted them to give up Ingram and whatever else was necessary to land Boogie. When it didn't happen he made his move.

Magic will be all in the rest of the week...and the first week of July when the marquee free agents move. But hard to imagine him being interested at all in the draft after the top few picks off the board, and if he can ever name a single D-League player, I'll tip my cap.

I'd give up any of these guys to find some real future superstars. These players are like Eddie Jones and Nick Van Exel, love 'em but have to find the next Kobe and Shaq if none of these guys seriously up their game.
