Cup o noodles

Recommended Posts

I enjoy high end ramen at a Japanese restaurant, but there is something about a 99 cent cup of noodles once or twice a month.

Anyone else fail to kick this college habit?

Haven't had in a while but would.

Loved the 3 dried peas in each cup. Felt like it was healthy

I thought this was a Giants fan post for a minute.

But then, I remembered that's me.

Oh yeah, I don't even have to go high-end Ramen. I like the little Top Ramen packets. But only chicken. The rest of them just don't work for me.

When I worked shift I always had a box or beef ramen noodles in my locker. I would crush them and put them into a styrofoam cup with water and soy sauce and microwave.

You did the ramen powder and soy sauce? Did your heart explode? Or your ankles just blow up like basketballs?

I like the spicy cup noodles. When I go to the restaurants I love getting the tonkatsu ramen

Yeah, definitely not a healthy choice. It wasn't everyday.

See, I don't think the Hakuna Matata is nearly as embarrassing as the cup-a-soup.

I've never had high end ramen. Just seems like a fad I can't support

I like it better than pho.

I get them for 30c at the supermarket. Big fan and better than some high end ramen with those disgusting chunks of raw pork or whatever.

My wife likes to go to Ramen restaurants a few times a year, one that we go to a chain, this is what i meant by high-end.

As far as the cup of noodles go i agree with you. The basic ones taste better than the high-end ones 9 times out of 10. But there are a couple really good cup o noodles that has chili sauce, etc. This one is alright and is sold in most grocery stores.

I cook the noodles leave out the flavor packets because most of those things contain like a million grams of sodium. I just flavor with low sodium soy sauce or ponzu.

I love Ramen. The high end ramen (meaning restaurant made ramen) is freaking delicious. Especially with an egg in it. I want to go to Japan just for the foods they have there. Ramen is my #1 thing to eat there. Ramen to me is better than Pho. Cup ramen has to be spicy for me. That's the kind I like the best to me for cup of noodles.

Haven't found a good ramen place here yet but they had a DAM good one in Austin.

I have eaten at their Houston branch, it is good. Probably my second favorite in the Houston area. That is not a dig on this restaurant, I have eaten at at least 7 different Ramen restaurants in Houston. :ninja:

neutral on cup of soup. my daughter used to like top ramen and we would keep a bit around. every once in a while i would want a late night snack and quickly make a pack. for me..... use 1/2 of the seasoning packet (too salty), a little sesame oil. we typically have green onion and cilantro in the house so would use that as well.

while i love asian food, i never got into the ramen house fad. also pho is ok, but i prefer other asian soups.

yup.

and MTSkiBum nailed it too... if you stick with the plain, old, basic 30cent version, you win and it's great.

They lured me in once with the $1.99 bigger cup, fancier packaging, and promises of hearty meat and higher quality... and it was fockin' terrible... if I was moving into the $1.99 price point, I shoulda' just gone with a Slim Jim.

When I was in college I used to live off top ramen. To make the dining "experience" last longer and fill me up more I would eat with saltines and fork the noodles onto the cracker.

Ahh memories of being a broke-@ss college student!

Oh I actually meant high end ramen like the kind you get at the soup restaurants where they put all kinds of stuff in it. It always looks good but the noodles don’t have that good texture you get from the cheap stuff. I always end up wishing it was just top ramen.

Ive actually never eaten instant ramen. Not in college, and not now, where there are hundreds of different kinds in the store.

We always have it in the house. My girl eats it for dinner most nights.

Ive had the restaurant ramen many times as that accounts for like 70% of restaurants here.

This. For years, I lived on Ramen noodles and microwaveable cups of mac n cheese.

The 3 for $1 cans of "Potted Meat" were (and are) good budget stretchers as well.

I always keep the square ramen in my cupboard for just in case.

I used to go to this Korean fusion restaurant and buy the expensive ramen with the egg.

However, after a while I was like, it's only 2 steps away from the super cheap so I stopped eating there.

Funny. Just the other day me and the boys were out working and ate on our own.

Wife was looking for something to eat and we had all sorts of food on hand but nothing she was in the mood for and I offered to go get whatever she wanted. She was like I'll figure it out

Later I go in the kitchen and she is cooking a ramen soup. I was like WTF I offered to get you whatever you wanted and you end up with a $.30 soup ???

Well I was wrong. She added frozen shrimp. Sautéed scallops ' mushrooms, spices, peas and tofu.

(No packet)

Was awesome.

I remember when I was stationed in XianKowPow, the Chinese weren't really big on Ramen.

But Boy, did they love their Cup O Poodles!

Replace the butter with shredded cheese, and you got a once of month staple for me for the last 20 years.
