How do people still fall for MLMs!?

Pyramid schemes aka Multi level Marketing schemeS have been around for ever. Lately it's been this AdvoCare thing, doing the rounds on social media.

 

Just exactly how low does ones IQ have to be to fall for them? Are we talking regular old retard >80 or lower like dog level?

 

Did any of your parents sell Amway? Ever gone in for a job interview, that ended up being a "group interview" for some MLM BS?

 

My wife's friends are always inviting her to their BS MLM parties, selling one another skin creams and candlesticks or whatever. They just end up selling crap back and forth to one another. I tell her to just tell these chicks that they're retarded, but she doesn't want to hurt their feelings (more likely she wants to buy useless crap). Why are women especially stupid when it comes to pyramid schemes?

 

Look at how many herbalife "centers" there are in Mexico! What do Mexicans love MLM's so much!? I didn't know there were even 36000 people in Mexico still. Thought Obama moved them all to America.

I have a couple friends involved in Stream/Ignite. I finally blocked them on facebook because all they ever did was try to push their crap on everyone. Advocate and Nerium are other ones that suckers fall for.

It seems that people who get in real early can make money on all the suckers they get under them. The rest just annoy their friends trying to get their 100 bucks for the week.

I know someone who's into Shakeology.

 

She brands herself as a fitness coach, creates groups, shares fitness and nutrition ideas etc. She says she does OK with it, but I can't imagine people paying for this stuff. The only revenue stream I can see is the purchase of the replacement meal shakes.

Have a friend that has done quite well with Advocare. He and his wife are all in on this thing and go on a ton of trips and crap. They got in very early and have all the chumps making them money under them.

The guy who used to own the gym we go to sold it to focus on Advocare. This was several years ago so maybe he got in early. The gym experience probably gave him credibility. I wonder how he is doing...

 

A good friend is starting Advocare. He did the 24 day challenge and posted a video every day on FB. He lost 15 pounds (he is still quite fat) so I guess doing something worked. He is a psych professor at a community college; he told us that after 19 years of teaching there, the school (or county or state) might fire him because his PhD is in social work, not psych. Which to me is extremely stupid if he has been successful there for 19 years. Anyway, with the unsure nature of his job he was looking for something to try to supplement his income. Not saying I would have gone that way, but I'll give him a pass.

 

Another friend a while back was looking to start some skin cream MLM. I met with her (not attractive, 44D) a few times in an advisory capacity, including looking at their prospectus or whatever. I advised against it and they did it anyway. I haven't seen them in a while but I presume they gave up.

 

A former coworker got laid off and after a year of not finding anything, started doing Lyoness. I actually joined under him, but it was just as a user so it didn't cost money. I tried to use a discount on a Joseph A Bank shirt and it was a PITA; I gave up eventually and never went back. That being said, Lyoness seems like one with room for growth and a scalable model (everyone can use discounts, right?) which might make it not as dumb as the others.

These things drive me up the wall. I did have one of those interviews years ago and stormed out when I realized what it was. The absolute worst is that one friend like Shonuff that swears he knows people who got rich or made all this money when it's a ton of utter lies. I remember when these were trendy and I still knew they were bull. But yes they still exist along with all the classic cons. I swear to god Iv even gotten Nigerian prince replies from selling stuff on craigslist within the last few months. It's amazing g how dumb most people are and I only wish I knew how to take their money.

Tons of scams on craigslist. It amazes me when people want to pay you in money oders for more than what you're asking and want you to mail them the rest back... lol how can people fall for that?

 

Anyway I think the only validity to some of the fitness schemes is if you start up a website and market yourself as a lifestyle coach.. like someone mentioned. Make your small money off the product but make real money off "consulting". Holding one on one or group sessions teaching people to eat and cook healthy and whatnot. I do know 2 women who make a living doing that

There is a pyramid scheme company that sells supplements that comes to me gym occasionally to shill. They give out free samples, and the stuff is good. I just laugh when they try to recruit me though.
