Divisional Playoff: Pittsburgh at Kansas City: In-Game Discussion

Recommended Posts

Freezing rain is supposed to start Friday and last through Monday. Best chance of precip is sunday.

Other interesting thing is the Chiefs installed a heating system under the turf in the off-season, so it keeps the ground from freezing and stays soft. Will be interesting to see how that works with non-stop rain. I'm guessing the field will be covered till then so the field could be in really great shape, just crappy conditions.

Good info I didn't know.

Balls get switched out between plays, but the center needs to protect the laces with his hands from the moment he gets it in freezing rain.

Folks are preparing like Armageddon. People get worked up when you talk freezing rain so that's been more of the hubbub. It's gonna be cold with crap coming down :dunno:

Yep. Or as I call it just another day in January.

Wow 8:20 pm east coast time is a tough break .

Your Looking at a game going into Monday morning.

I think the NFL would be unhappy about this.

Now on the west coast more time to make bets.

Casinos love it out here.

Good piece on Sports On Earth about the PIT@KC situation:

...(It also should be noted that there might be -- understandably -- extra sensitivity within the Chiefs family when it comes to issues such as this; team legend Derrick Thomas died 17 years ago after getting into a car accident on an icy Kansas City road.)...

Weather or not the field is in decent shape by kickoff -- the forecast should improve by the evening, but there will still be precipitation in the area -- the passing and kicking games will be affected most adversely. That could negate the advantage the Steelers have through the air, which was evident in the regular season meeting between these teams in Week 4, when Ben Roethlisberger threw for five touchdowns in a blowout 43-14 victory at Heinz Field.

Still, Pittsburgh is plenty capable on the ground with Le'Veon Bell, one of the league's best running backs. Pittsburgh and Kansas City finished 14th and 15th in rushing yards per game in the regular season, though Pittsburgh was generally more efficient, averaging 0.3 more yards per carry. Part of the Steelers' success had to do with opposing defenses respecting their passing game, which would be less of a concern in adverse weather when the Chiefs could simply key in on Bell. Accordingly, a primarily defensive struggle would favor the Chiefs. But it won't be easy to contain the playmakers...

i wonder if people who write some of this stuff realize the chiefs tore up their field in the offseason and installed underground tubing which in my estimation, is going to leave a field, which hasn't been played on in two weeks immaculate for the sunday evening shindig.

As was said field conditions & weather could affect the receivers. It's Antonio 'frickin' Brown though. Still, could the weather, field & L.Bell affect Brown's numbers today? I had a gut feeling that this may be Dez Bryant's best game of the year for several reasons but don't want to. Pin point any 1 factor why I feel this.

I DO however believe he will have at least 2tds and decent(100+)yardage. So, starting Dez over AB people are probably sayin' I don't have a clue. THAT could be very true, but I gotta hunch about Dez today and gonna roll with him. Anybody else feel similar or think I'm insane to bench AB?

Well, I'll be danged. Packers/Cowboys turned out to be a heck of a game. Can't leave time on the clock for Aaron. I actually for 1 time this fantasy season was correct about a players possible production. Maybe I need to listen to my gut instinct more often. I still think AB will have a good game. Just not as good as what I thought Dez would get. Thank you Dez, you helped me win a few bucks.

I have no problem with ether one of these teams going to the SB. So, whoever wins this game PLEASE,I beg you, send the Pats home with their tails between their legs next week.

I pray for the sake of the Steelers fans that the Steelers coaching staff stop trying to coach and they just let the big three do there thing.

Does Ben keep changing the play call to a pass instead of handing off to Bell?

I also wonder if Bell ever hits the hole with full speed, he's always dancing around then runs hard. Seems like he could run for longer gains just running full speed when he gets the ball.
