It just gets better. I can't believe how much I love it, never was a fantasy/si-fi fan

"How do you know this?"

" Because that's what I do... I drink... and I know things."

Looking forward to the new season, though I tend to stay away from the trailers so I don't know anything about what is upcoming...

I broke down and added HBO last night.

They have all the seasons of this show on demand. I've never been a fan of the Hobbit, or LOTR stuff, so I'm not sure I'll like this.

I watched 15 minutes of the very first episode last night, and saw about a dozen be-headings. Is that pretty much it? Sci Fi + Gore = geek hard on?

Not a fan of that stuff either, but this show is different. But your experience is going to be different, because I'm sure you've been exposed to so much of it though pop culture.

The show is universally loved but, for whatever reason, it sounds like you will hate it.

If you watched the first 15 minutes of an episode and couldn't muscle through until the end, you probably shouldn't bother watching another second of it.

June 2015

HBO’s “Game of Thrones” continues to grow in popularity, with Sunday’s fifth-season finale drawing the show’s largest audience ever — despite going up against the NBA Finals in most of the country.
According to Nielsen “live plus same-day” estimates, “Thrones” averaged 8.11 million viewers, up 14% from both the previous week (7.14 million) and last year’s finale (7.09 million). The previous series high for the show came with its fifth-season premiere in April, which drew about 8 million.
Sunday’s ratings growth is a continuation of a trend that has seen a show once considered “niche” become cable’s second most popular program, behind only AMC’s “The Walking Dead.”
After bowing in 2011 with 2.2 million viewers, “Game of Thrones” first drew 3 million viewers for an episode with its season 1 finale, and then hit the 4-million mark with its season 2 finale. Midway through its third season, it surpassed 5 million viewers for the first time, and then it moved above 6 million for the first time with its season 4 premiere last year. It hit 7 million midway through last season, and then kicked off its fifth season with a best-yet 7.997 million.
In adults 18-49, primetime’s most important demo but one that has little effect on a premium service like HBO, Sunday’s finale of “Game of Thrones” averaged a 4.1 rating (or about 5.2 million of its 8.1 million viewers). This is up 8% from last year’s finale score (3.81) and is the show’s second highest-rated ever, behind only its most recent season opener (4.19).
The “Game of Thrones” finale also set Twitter ablaze on Sunday, landing atop the Nielsen Twitter TV Ratings weekly top 10 series list with 436,000 event-related Tweets that were seen by a unique audience of 5.1 million people. That was more than twice as many as the next closest series on the list, ABC’s “The Bachelorette” (2.09 million) and ABC Family’s “Pretty Little Liars” (1.92 million).

Most shows start huge and drop.

This show is a BEAST.

I bet there was a King Drumph of Westeros back in the day and he made the White Walkers pay to build the wall.

I bothered to watch several episodes and came away thoroughly unimpressed.

No doubt, this is an unpopular stance, but there's just not a single character worth rooting for on this show.

It may be universally loved, but it's really not much more than a bunch of disconnected story lines about a bunch of dirty faced rapists running around fantasyland chopping heads and well, raping.

It's bleak and depressing. It's completely devoid of any kind of joy or humor. Every character is either sad, vicious or both. I guess that's all well and good if you're in the mood for some wrist slitting.

And the abundant t!ts are fine, but it's not like that's hard to see anymore.

I'm sure its must see TV for real life geeks, but I it's not for me. Have fun.

I am not a fan of the hobbit or lotr either. But this is the best show in television history IMO. It's less science fiction and more about power.

The story lines eventually become very much entwined. Watching it happen half the fun of the show.

And Tyrion is damn funny. As bleak and vicious as the show can be, there are a few LOL moments, and he prvides many of them.

The middle ages were dirty, and vicious. I know that this show isnt set during the real middle ages, but it is an approximation of them. If the show had been clean and happy and all conflict was fixed at the end of every episode, well it would be the terrible formulaic kind tv that hopefully shows like GOT, SOA The Shield, etc etc have curb stomped out of existence. George Martin does a fantastic job IMO of creating characters that live in that grey area between good and evil. Some are motvated by love, some by greed, others by just trying to survive until tomorrow. True there are no goody two shoes heroes saving the world for the sake of altruism, and there and no bad guys trying to destroy the world simply in the name of evil. But in real life good and evil are rarely pure. Things are grey. At its heart GOT is a huge political drama, with one family in power, and a whole bunch of other families/people trying to take it from them. Comparing this show to LOTR is like comparing The Shield or The Wire to .Bad Boys. Its just a completely different animal.

And, on top of that it is fantastically acted, and the cinematography is summer blockbuster movie level. But i understand the need for some people (like my brother) to just be contrary, So to each his own i say.

im a big fan of the show and have been watching since day 1. got a number of friends into it.

that said, each season they seem to promise more dire wolves, more dragons and they never deliver. they blow their budget on one scene I guess and cant afford cgi dragons.

and yeah, seriously when the fock is winter coming. the huge ass army of white walkers that march past fatty when he hides behind a rock in season 2? still didn't reach the wall? but stannis can get from place to place in an episode., kings landing to bravos to the wall....

Jon snow

Tyrion

Sansa stark

Ned stark

Actually there are tons of characters who don't fit your generalization above.

another GREAT episode.

Ramsey Bolton Snow is absolutely the most EVIL character in television history. Great job by him and the writing.

I guess Jon Snow can do whatever he wants now, pretty sure he fulfilled his vow to be a part of the Night's watch until he died.

"Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come."

It was obvious the baby wasn't going to live, and Roose would hardly be cool with Ramsay killing his legitimate son

I'm hoping Jon Snow has a different temprememt when he goes to see his buddy Ollie. He's the first to go.
