They have Marlboro Reds. They are fairly expensive (by Chinese standards, still far cheaper than back home).. I have found a Chinese brand I like that is dirt cheap. We are talking about $1.50 a pack. They are as good or better than cigs back home. Generally, things are dirt cheap here. The exceptions are imported products and high end luxury products. They treat anything made in China by a foreign company as an import. So apple products, for example, are just as expensive here as back home. And it is a b!tch to de-china electronics. It is generally recommended to buy electronics in Hong Kong. I bought a laptop here. It took them hours to switch it over to English, and it occasionally still throws Chinese at you. You are generally better off going with a higher end Chinese product. Made in the same factory anyway, just different brand name. Liquor is another oddity. You can get baiju (Chinese moonshine) dirt cheap, like $5 a bottle, all the way up to pretty expensive. I have been told by hardcore alcoholics not to touch that sh!t. Apparently it will knock your d!ck in the dirt. I've seen Jim Beam, Russian Vodka, and other imported liquors for sale. It is comparably priced to back home. Chinese beer is watery sh!t. 2% alcohol by law. Even imported beer has to comply with the 2% law. It is very hard to get drunk on beer. I use it as a maintenance drink. Get as drunk as I care to on real drinks, and use beer to maintain. I'm kind of dating this chick (honestly, I don't really know what the fock it is. Language barriers are a b!tch.) Gifts are a big deal in China, so I went to get her a small present. I was amazed. Stuff is laughably cheap. These look like high end boutiques, but have less than wall mart prices. Hell, I saw a (real) Prada purse for ¥1200 ($187). I'm sure one could get a completely undetectable fake made in the same factory for a quarter of that at the knock off mall. I ended up getting a necklace that is quite nice, for like $25. Hell, the box would cost damn near that in the U.S. When we start getting paid, I'm gonna be doing quite well here. And I have plans for some businesses to make some real money. Being an American here is like being able to see the future. They are modernizing, but are three decades behind in some areas. You can look at what sort of things came to America and know what will make money here. I'm going to save up money to open a law office. Lot's of Chinese families want to send their kids to college in America. It costs them ¥15,000 ($2300 and change) to get the student visa paperwork processed. Once I figure out how to do it, I could crank them out easily. All you gotta do is change the personal info on the application forms. One case is as much as I make in a month teaching.
