This seasons Tyler Lockett/Jarvis Landry?

Recommended Posts

Last year ended up drafting both of these guys and won my league. PPR and return yardage league (10 yds/1 point). Got both at a bargain in the draft last year - not going to be as lucky this year and will have to take both high - Landry will probably go in the 2nd round.Landry ranked 3rd in the league in points by a WR behind A Brown and Julio.

My question - are there any similar players that are skilled WR that return kicks that may be flying under the radar this year?

Travis Benjamin

Deeper guys that prob need to lock up the returner role and have an injury in front of them.

Jeff Janis

JJ Nelson

Sanu. If that D sucks again he will get plenty of targets.

Oh, and you need punt duties. The Skins project Crowder to return punts I think. He's a sleeper for a good year. The coaches really like him.

If Crowder wins the return job, I'll own him in my main league that does light return yardage. He's getting slept on big time with Doctson joining the fold, but I could see him being Cousins' safety blanket...effectively transitioning from Garcon as the year goes on

I am in a pretty competitive keeper league. I'm always looking to draft a guy in double digits rounds bc we can keep em for 3 years if we draft them. Last year drafted Karlos Williams and Lockett in late rounds when most went undrafted. I'm trying to find those value gems again this year in double digits. So far I got

Marvin Jones

Clive Walford

Deandre Washington

Tyler Boyd

Michael Thomas (hype train will derail value)

Braxton Miller to Texans is interesting

Chris Moore

Jordan Howard

Just a list of cheap guys and rookies in good landing spots

Will Corey Coleman be getting return opportunities in Clevend?

Dunno if he'll be returning kicks but at the very least Phillip Dorsett should be more involved on offense.

That's exactly what I've been seeing , is that the Colts want to get Dorsett more involved .

Keep an eye on Sterling Shepherd in New York. He's in a great situation.

That kid runs great routes and has drawn rave reviews from everything I've read. Having ODB on the other side of the field will provide a lot of opportunity for him.

Is Shepherd worth an 8th round pick (current ADP)? If he's going to be getting targets and returning kicks he could do what Lockett and Landry did last season in my league and produce top 10-15 WR numbers.

Landry is going to cost me a 2nd/3rd round pick this year and Lockett will probably run me 7th or so I'm assuming. Depending on how my draft shakes out I may go for Landry with a late 2nd round pick if hes there.

Bruce Ellington: Could be the PR/KR and slot guy. Great value for where he's currently being drafted in re-draft.

Co-sign on Ellington. Wheaton is listed as KR in Pitt, he's one to keep an eye on as well.

On a related note, how much do you all think the new touchback rule (ball now placed at the 25) will affect returns?

Given your scoring system, I'd certainly say so.

The Giants are going to have a very dynamic passing game.

sterling sheppard = jarvis landry

He might produce as well potentially but I don't see the comp.

Landry is a YAC monster and tough as nails after the catch.

I think Sterling will catch a ton of balls but not do as much with them.

Landry has one of the lowest YPC in the league last year. I actually think Landry is not a play maker. A great possession receiver with stellar mits.

Sheppard will be like last years Lockett
Lockett will be like last years Landry

And Landry will be like last years OBJ/Hopkins

I know it's not the main subject of the thread, but I don't think Landry breaks 1000 yards this year. He is one of the least physically talented receivers in the NFL and I think both Parker and Carroo are going to take away a lot of his looks. I guess some of that is built-in to his WR20 price, but I'm still avoiding him.

And if Foster can stay healthy , he will get a lot of work in the passing game .

I felt the opposite after seeing Landry play last year. Watched him a lot has I owned him.

I think he's not only explosive, but can make every catch/good hands, and takes his lumps at being physical over the middle, etc. I felt he played through some pains last year and still produced consistently. Tons of catches. You don't catch that many balls and be "physically weak" IMO.

I guess him being dinged a few times I could see you relate that has him being physically weak - But, I see him taking the next step up!

If he had more TD's last year he would have been a top tier WR.

His limitations is the QB. And he needs to find the end zone more. But, I think he becomes stud status in his 3rd year. I think Miami was still trying to figure out how to utilize him during the year.

Looked a lot like OBJ at times to me last year.

I DO like Parker though! ;)

Landry has some of the best hands in the league and Hf is right about his toughness. He also has his qbs trust. He may not have the combine jets, but he seems to have some of that game speed. Hard not to like him even if he regresses a little. And Parker has yet to show he can last a full season.

Back on point to the OP:

From the first week of the preseason:

Here are the list of players that handled kick returns that could have upside. With the exception of Ellington, these guys are diamonds in the rough, but could pan out if the depth chart cracks a particular way:

Tre McBride (3 KO returns, 72 yards w/ a long of 35)
Jared Abbrederis (3 KO returns, 66 yards w/ a long of 34)

Mike Thomas (Rams) (2 KO returns, 45 yards)
Bruce Ellington (2 KO returns, 39 yards)

Marcus Murphy (2 KO returns, 45 yards, one for 30 yards)

Here are the list of players that handled punt returns that could have upside:

Tre McBride (3 punt returns, one for 16 yards)
Kenjon Barner (3 punt returns, 3 fair catches, one for 13 yards - Sproles usually handles this job, but it could be up for grabs)
Marcus Murphy (3 punt returns, one for 48 yards)

which Seattle WR would you rather have this year Lockett or Baldwin?

I'm targeting Lockett. Better value & has more upside IMO.

Thats some good stuff giraldi. You think McBride gets game action on offense? If he gets that type of special teams action, then can also get 2 to 3 catches a game (ppr leagues). Now we got something here for those combined stats idp leagues.

Not a chance. They are all hyping him in practices daily. He catches everything in site. As a Dolphins fan I will tell you I don't expect him to get a ton of yards but 1100-1200 should easy with 100-125 catches easily. I wouldn't be shocked if he gets 140 catches.

Parker needs to stay healthy first off. The Fins will use him as a deeper threat I would bet.

Really, really nice value added post Giraldi, very much appreciated. I'd love to see this board return to the point where content like this made up a solid percentage of the words someday.

I honestly don't know w/ McBride. I believe he has more upside than Harry Douglas, but that's not necessarily saying much. With DGB gone, it can't hurt his role on the team for the offense at least. He got reps with the starters this weekend against San Diego.

I wouldn't expect much beyond Dexter McCluster type numbers tbh, but you never know. Rishard Matthews isn't a symbol of health. Kendall Wright has been up and down. Sharpe is still a rookie. Like I said, diamonds in the rough...but good info to have as the process plays out
