Possible Rule Changes 2019

Recommended Posts

So... been thinking on this one for a bit.

Instead of QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, WR, FLEX, TE

We do: QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, FLEX, FLEX, TE

I was talking with another owner in the league about this. He thinks it would help alleviate some of those times when we're getting hammered with injuries at WR, which admittedly we all go through. It's at times hard to put up 3 healthy WR's consistantly.

This gives us a bit more flexability when those injuries hit.

I agree and throw this out on the floor for discussion.

Also.. we need to come up with a quitters rule. You make mention you're ~sticking for reals, we need some sort of oversite to all further trades and roster moves.

Add 2 more IR spots.

add 5 pts to home playoff teams

#1 seed gets to choose they want to face in the semi-finals, (not the #2 seed)

YES, but may be only 1 more for a total of 3

add 5 pts to home playoff teams

NO, THAT'S DUM

NO, DUM

i might even suggest:

qb, rb, wr, wr, te, flex, flex, pk, d/st

or

qb, rb, wr, wr, te, flex, flex, flex, pk, d/st

can cap rb at 2 or 3 depending on preference

have you guys played with a taxi squad? the basic idea is that that teams hold their younger (rookie, 2nd, and 3rd year) players on a taxi or developmental squad. it allows teams to evaluate prospects for a few years. before the season begins, owners designate players for this squad (ie: 5 players). owners are allowed to promote these players at any time, but must have the space on the roster to do so. once promoted the player is either permanently on the main roster or only for the season (based on preference of the league).

What's dum is allowing a team in the playoffs, (based on points) and making the #1 seed face them in the semi finals.,

This is the only one I agree with.

The others are dumb. Especially all of Ed's, as one would expect.

Your new league may be a smidgen too low brow for this concept? :(

I'm not announcing my full support for this lineup idea, but I'm also not announcing my opposition to it. I'd be willing to discuss it further.

Add 2 more IR spots.

I'd be fine with more IR spots.

add 5 pts to home playoff teams

This is a dumb idea on the surface, but I get what it is going after. So I'm willing to discuss it, with the following caveat. Regular season games need a home team advantage as well.

What's dum is allowing a team in the playoffs, (based on points) and making the #1 seed face them in the semi finals.,

I read somewhere recently (may have been a Matt Berry article)....every week you play two games (or 3 in our double header week). Game 1 is against your opponent. Game 2: If you are top 6 in scoring you get a win, bottom 6 in scoring you get a loss.

Downside: It'll mess up our career records, which are one of my favorite features on MFL. (Maybe there is a way to not count the points games in career records)

Upside: It would mostly eliminate the need for the 6th spot going to a points team. Keeps the head to head aspect.

I'm not sure if I totally support the concept, but I did find it very interesting.

I was going to suggest regular season as well. Wasn't sure if that was too much of a stretch.

Home games matter in the NFL, a lot. As a top seed in the playoffs, you get no advantage.

3 points is said to be the typical home field advantage in the NFL,. what do they average? 25 points. Fock we average 120+ and I am talking only 5 points.

I have not seen this anywhere before, I just thought of it this morning.

a couple of ideas:

-playoff games are a combination of avg weekly score for regular season + the playoff game.

-play head to head. top 4 scorers get an extra win (does not count towards div record).

or

-play head to head. top 4 get extra win, middle nothing, bottom 4 get an extra loss

- bonus points for home.... NO

- taxi squads..... NO (played in a few of these leagues and ultimately the taxi squad is just a convoluted way to expand roster size and our rosters are big enough. Taxi squads can be helpful in dynasties with an expiring contract element to keep those players "clocks from ticking".

- Quitting owners..... you state you are intending to leave, your roster is locked from all moves. Shouldn't be allowed to make moves YOU think might be best for the NEW owner.

- Matthew Berry idea is a silly combination of head to head and "all play" leagues. Leagues where you play every team every week and that's your record for the week. Essentially it's close to just being a total points league and takes a lot away from the head to head smack talk / bragging rights aspects.

-No choosing who you play. 6th seed should be record, not total points. Total points should only be a tie breaker. After round 1, the bracket should be re-seeded (if not already) so that the #1 seed plays lowest remaining.

I propose TD passes go from 6 to 4 and we add bonuses for performance (ie... 3 points for over 100 yard rush or receive, 300 for TD pass)

Oh yeah, your idea sucks too. Just not as bad as the others. You want to make it more of a super flex league which takes less stratergy and roster management, in my opinion.

Having bye week or injury issues? Less incentive to trade or work the waiver if yiu can just plug in any other position. 4 RBs? Good lord. I know it's a thun position but it could keep an owner from having to, you know, manage their squad with any effort

Honestly not meant to be negative, meant to be helpful and keep you from adding rules that hurt the league and increase turnover. 5 new owners in the last 2 years?

My tone is just my whiner moniker

Holy cow that is a lot of turnover, I am in 2 long running dynasties and then i took over a rebuild last year and now this rebuild this year.

The one dynasty team i am in lost 1 owner in the last 5 years(and maybe 3-4 total in 12 years) and my dad has been on a waiting list to get in for the last 3 years, the other league has lost 3 owners in the last 7 years (and maybe 4-5 since it was formed).

I could be mistaken but since I joined we had Frozen (dixoffs) join and now leave. Raider Haters, Bier and yourself.

I think ~stick was the first to quit.....so maybe that's when the Narc took over.

Our league didn't really settle into normalcy until the 2012 season, so everything prior to that was like the wild west. Lawless and hard to trace via modern records. I remember past owners during that era as having names like ~stick, titans and bears, BLS, Yostevo, Iamwood, etc...but odds are nobody knows for sure what really happened back then.

Was TBBOM is the league? I don't even remember that. Haha.

Either way. I think this is the strongest group we've had since inception.

I like doubleheaders all the time, it gives 2 games against all non division and 3 games against division

Week 1 you play a single game = 25 game schedule

also a balanced schedule where you play your division during non-bye weeks I think is good too
