bandrus1 413 Posted March 14, 2018 Old gf and I saw Rock of Ages and that was really good. I always liked Cabaret. Is the old Marry Poppins movie considered a musical?
kilroy69 993 Posted March 14, 2018 white Christmas, marry Poppins, the unsinkable Molly brown, Oklahoma. Rock of ages is the only one as an adult that was worth mentioning. Tbbom. Crap. I might have it too.

vuduchile 1,940 Posted March 14, 2018 Million Dollar Quartet is the only live musical I liked. The other one I saw live was Phantom and I couldnt get outta there fast enough. Movie musicals I liked: West Side Story, Grease and Chicago.
wiffleball 4,631 Posted March 14, 2018 Just to be clear, because I'm a dork like this. By definition a musical is one in which the characters don't know that they are singing and the songs move the story forward. So, for example, Pitch Perfect is technically not a musical. It is a movie with songs in it. I bet your life is so much better having known that right now isn't it?
fandandy 3,311 Posted March 14, 2018 The Music Man. We're in trouble my friends, right here in River City. With a capital T and that rhymes with P and that stands for pool
Bill E. 666 Posted March 14, 2018 Broadway or Traveling Musicals on stage not movie musicals. Les Mis is probably my favorite. I saw it back in late 80s early 90s and have seen it 3 or 4 times since on tour. Phantom was very good because of the staging and music. Missed Michael Crawford by like a month. Jersey Boys was very good. Evita was good Aspects of Love by ALW was good because of the music. Rent was good. Grease was good. Chorus Line was ok I enjoyed Starlight Express when I saw it. Miss Saigon was ok. I never liked Cats. No coherent story line, Menopause sucked bad and was the worst musical I have ever seen ever. Even the ok ones are better than watching a movie. The last two are the only ones I would not go see again if it were convenient.

Patriotsfatboy1 1,432 Posted March 14, 2018 I think that I have seen about 4 in my life (one of them twice): - Phantom of the Opera - saw it with the wife before we were married. It was okay. Tried to get her to go to NYC and we were going to see it again this year. - Miss Saigon - meh - Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat - it had Donny Osmond in it and he was pretty good. Not a bad show, so I ended up seeing it once in Chicago and once in Boston. Not sure if I have the ghey, but maybe I am just curious.
NorthernVike 2,079 Posted March 14, 2018 The Blues Brothers How the hell did I miss that one? It was a third of my 60's draft.

fricker66 91 Posted March 14, 2018 Here are ones that I've seen on Broadway that I actually enjoyed: Dear Evan Hansen - Saw it a few weeks ago with my 16-year-old. Incredible acting and singing. Great storyline. Good songs that stick in your head. Worth every penny. Taking the wife in July. Book of Mormon - Saw this with the wife. Hysterical. More of a comedy than a musical. Seeing it again with my son later this month as he is a huge South Park fan. Godspell - Very good score. The story is a little weird, but the music was very good. A Chorus Line -- One of the first shows I saw on Broadway and still memorable. Will Rogers' Follies - Good music and remarkable choreography. I continue to enter the Hamilton lottery in the hopes of seeing that one. It's supposedly great, but not worth the price right now in my book. My wife won just before Christmas, but we gave the tickets to our kids as a present.

dain11279 927 Posted March 14, 2018 I've never been to one I've seen 2 movies. Rock Of Ages was pretty funny. Les Miserables bored me. Plus they made Anne Hathaway somehow look unattractive

wiffleball 4,631 Posted March 14, 2018 Spamalot, Wicked, dear Evan Hansen, rent ...are all musicals I'd love to see. But I've listened to them all repeatedly. Amazing.
wiffleball 4,631 Posted March 14, 2018 The musical episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer actually sort of set the standard for shows to come. Buffy sounds like she's gargling glass, but the supporting characters had some pretty exceptional talents. Since then, the musical episode has been one of the gold standards for long-running, strongly followed television shows.
MTSkiBum 1,593 Posted March 14, 2018 The Inquisition. Still waiting on History of the World part 2. I have been to 3 musicals and I have tickets to a 4th. Book of Mormon was the only one I saw on Broadway in NY. The others are the traveling team. Wicked Young Frankenstein Book of Mormon Hamilton - in 2 months As far as Young Frankenstein I liked the movie, but the musical was not good, although in Mel Brooks' defense he made the musical in 2006 when he was past his prime. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Young_Frankenstein_(musical)

Hardcore troubadour 12,588 Posted March 14, 2018 Jersey Boys is the only acceptable answer here. I have not seen A Bronx Tale on broadway yet, but it might pass muster. And I will add because of Susan Sarandons spectacular breasts and Meatloafs awesome cameo, Rocky Horror may garnish an applause or two. And for the potheads out there The Wall makes sense.
