Situation in Ferguson, MO

Recommended Posts

How is there not a thread about this?

The bored libertardians aren't outraged by the gross misconduct of the police in this case? Firing tear gas and rubber bullets at peaceful protesters? Roughing up reporters? To say nothing of them shooting an unarmed kid 10 times.

Like a good geek club member, I am waiting until all the facts come out before voicing my opinion.

Wouldn't want to ruffle any feathers.

Looting, rioting, race baiting are good for America.

They earned the right to destroy private property.

It is the white mans fault.

I blame me. The man in the mirror.

I think the whole "peaceful protests" argument went out the window when people started looting and rioting. It does reek of misconduct by the police, but the actions of the community make it hard to be sympathetic. I guess the saying is true. Never let a good tragedy go to waste. Nothing like getting new tv's and shoes and whatever else people are getting from looting, and burning down houses and stores because a kid was possibly murdered by the police. That'll show em. Real peacful.

No excuse for looting, but I'm thinking more of the cops forcing camera crews to stop filming, pushing reporters around, etc. If no one is watching, the cops can get medieval on people.

I agree with that.

I fully support anarchy because our government is inherently evil.

However this particular group of rioters and looters are human garbage.

Also, it's probably not a good idea to assault a cop because you might get shot.

I have no idea if it was a justifiable shooting. If not, then the cop needs to stand trial.

Whether it was or not, there is no excuse for animals to loot and riot. Dumbfocks.

Yeah...agreed...obviously no excuse for looting.

But there are also many reports of police escalating violence in areas and as you said, forcing media and camera crews to stop filming (lobbing tear gas at reporters...)

Its long been out of hand and the governor should have had the guard in there long ago.

I just think it's interesting that there's no hue and cry from the "libertarians" in the face of a militarized police force hugely overreacting just so they can use all their toys while trampling the freedom of the press and of people's right to peaceably assemble.

They weren't peaceably assembling, and the press are Focktards. Police are mostly Focktards, that's an ugly mix right there

After everybody gets a smash and grab XBox and 22" rims, the outrage will subside. :bandana:

Seriously, I haven't heard anything that indicates the kid had it coming.

When the cops tell you to disperse, disperse.

Or hang around and argue with them if you want. Just don't be surprised when they escort you off the premises.

You are correct in that for the most part the police forces in this country are armed for a nuclear war. It's scary. But 9/11 was the catalyst for plenty of infringements on our freedom. Freedom of press? Come on. Eric Holder and his buddies are going after whistleblowers and anonymous tipsters to the press. The media self censors their broadcasts and editorializes instead of reporting facts. It's all a sham. Citizens are destroying businesses for personal gain by way of robbery. That's basically what's happening, so it's hard to support. I support the God Hates Faggs church since they are peaceful. These focks are burning stuff to the ground.

I just feel relieved now that Sharpton, Jackson, and lawyer Crump are involved that the sensationalization and rhetoric with be toned down, peaceful, and collaborative

I just don't think it's black and white cops are right, protesters are wrong. Yes the protesters are wrong, but it seems to me the cops have overreacted. No one is even willing to entertain that possibility?

Most of these fock chops protesting are coming in from other areas. I don't blame the cops for being aggressive in trying to shut them down. They shouldn't be there to begin with. They aren't there for Michael Brown, they're there to steal and destroy the property of innocent people. Fock em!

It might be like if the NY Yankees were playing the Dallas Cowboys. You don't want to root for either side and you are kind of hoping they both lose.

Yeah it's bad. There are things that I guess aren't getting put out there in the national media.

Over 20 cop cars have been damaged since Sunday night from protestors throwing at them.

Local news media trucks have been attacked and damaged.

Groups of protestors have been in residential neighborhoods with masks over their faces carrying weapons in plain sight.

Last night some protestors threw Malotov cocktails, rocks and bottles at the cops causing the tear gas to be used.

On Sunday night before the riots and looting took place, the cops showed tremendous restraint. They were a presence, but bent over backward to allow the crowd to vent. For the most part that's all the crow did, but a bunch of them decided to turn to violence.

There is and has been racial tension in St. Louis and the northside suburbs. The town of Ferguson is 2/3 black, the police dept has only 3 black cops out of 54. The has been building. The shooting was the last straw. But another thing nobody outside of St. Louis realizes is that of all the arrests made since the demonstrations started, only a hand full are Ferguson residents. Most of the has been done by people from other municipalities or north St. Louis.

I have no idea what happened in the shooting, but from what I've been told by a person in the know, is that the cop and the kid scuffled, the kid punched the cop then ran, the cop got out of the car and shot the kid several times. From what she told me the cop will be facing charges most likely, but please don't canonize this kid either. Once the civil suit is under way, his juvenile criminal record will become public. The kid in no way deserved to die for punching a cop, it's tragic and I hope justice prevails, but the kid ain't completely clean either.

Seeing militarized SWAT teams and cops in riot gear with assault rifles is a disturbing sight, but what are they supposed to do? I have a friend who lives near the area where the looting was happening and every night he's been hearing gunshots. He has kids that used to play outside. This week he and others have been sitting on his porch armed because he's worried about his home. His family is staying with friends far away. Has the media covered that aspect of the story yet?

I understand the anger and frustration, but for the love of God, there are people roving about tossing molotov cocktails and other , looting innocent businesses, carrying shotguns in plain sight and terrorizing families. This shouldn't be happening, it's wrong.

Hopefully it settles down and something good comes from it like better race relations, but if you think these have been peaceful demonstrations, you are mistaken.

Well...few reasons for that.

One is the obvious that "they" won't admit.

The other is that the peaceful protesters and their cause are hurt by the actions of some of them looting and promoting violence within such protests.

Edit: and reading Paul's post...part of the problem is the media not getting the whole story out. Some of that may be from being shut down by the cops as well. That part I have no problem saying the cops are fully in the wrong for not allowing the media coverage in.

I don't have a problem with cops taking care of violent protesters...

We have ballistics and crime scene photos, but I'm still waiting on the witness statements before reaching a final, fully informed and irrevocable opinion that I may share with my fellow Geeks

I haven't seen anything about this.

I heard (or read) somewhere that during the first night of rioting that some locals had gone down to a car repair business that had been broken into and took the keys to the cars on site so people couldn't steal them. They brought the keys back the next morning. The locals aren't trashing their own community. It's dooshbags from surrounding areas.

I'm sure there are some dead-enders from out of town involved, but doubt it's "most" of the protesters, as you mentioned earlier.

Like I said earlier very few of the arrests have been people from Ferguson.

If we all pitch in and give each one a flat screen and a pair of jordans, will they calm their fake outrage down ?
