Sergio Garcia’s fiancée garnered a lot of attention during the Masters Sunday. But one commentator is getting criticized for going too far.
BBC color analyst Peter Alliss was caught on a “hot mic” making a crude remark about Angela Akins’ outfit. After Garcia sunk the winning putt in his playoff round against Justin Rose, the camera panned to Akins, who was celebrating in the gallery. Alliss, 86, pointed out the length of her skirt.
“She’s got the shortest skirt on campus,” he said.
The BBC released a statement apologizing for the quip.
“Whilst believing he was off air Peter made a lighthearted remark which he now knows was inappropriate,” a network spokesman said.
This is the second time in three years Alliss has come under fire for comments he’s made about women on the air. In 2015, during Zack Johnson’s Open Championship win at St. Andrews, he said the golfer’s wife was probably thinking she would “get a new kitchen” if he won the tournament.

peter alliss has alzheimers doesn't he? or am i thinking of someone else. I remember him being on Feherty. I thought he stepped away from broadcasting completely.

anyway, don't see the issue with the Zach Johnson's wife comment. I mean I do but I don't if that makes sense. Women like state of the art bathrooms and kitchens. its a fact. So a guy in his 80's with early onset makes a comment reminiscent of life in the 1950's? who gives a fock

That's what they consider a crude remark?

Am I that far past the line? Is that really considered crude?

I don't think you realize how feminized things are now. And it's not a battle of the sexes. It's a battle between regular, normal thinking people vs a feminized media, academic, entertainment and political structure. You must be nice at all times and always take everyone's feelings into account. Even though that's impossible.

It's more "insensetive" than crude. Basically, openly acknowledging any female specific characteristics about a female is frowned upon.

there are a few exceptions, vulgarity and violence are encouraged when engaging good Americans.

Remember when Gary McCord was banned for life for saying the greens were like a bikini wax?

Gary McCord was banned from the Masters

The reported quotes that got McCord in trouble? Saying "there are some body bags down there if that keeps going," when a ball was rolling toward a water hazard, and joking that "bikini wax" is used to make Augusta National's greens so slick. The incident seems minor, but it was another example of the immense power the club wields. Two decades later, CBS still televises the Masters, but McCord, still an otherwise vital part of the network's golf broadcasts, remains banned from being part of the coverage.

But Augusta was men's only up until 5 years ago and that was OK.

Crazy

ONLY because the entire country had eyes on them.

Women flocked to Augusta years ago to stage all kinds of protests.

Ben Wright also got the Masters' axe for his comments back then... I actually missed him more on the broadcast than McCord.
