where do you guys place your sports wagers

Recommended Posts

its been 2 years since I made normal NFL wagers and when I did, I used a local bookie.

Was looking to do it online this year.

What sites do you guys use / trust. My first instinct was Bovada but they wont open an account for a NJ resident. Is there an offshore version of Bovada, are there better sites I can use without a huge hassle when cashing out?

sorry for the naive question, its been a while.

I used to use bovado and I cashed out every year up a small amount of money. I do not want to risk it anymore. Any possible legal ramifications would outweigh the couple hundred dollars I would win.

I did always have good luck getting my money from them though.

They now pay you in Canadian dollars and it's a pain in the a$$. The exchange rate is terrible and it takes weeks for your bank to convert the check.

It's not worth it to use Bovada and I have not found an online option I like

how long ago was this? i used to use them long ago when they were "bodog" (2 of my e-mail addresses already exist). but when i go to sign up here https://www.bovada.lv/ and i put in my zip code, I get told NJ is not supported. I also imagine most states are not supported.

maybe ill try remembering one of my previous log ins.

does bovada really pay you out in canadian?

I've been on-line gambling for over 15 years. Don't even remember the first site I used. I eventually moved on to Bodog. They were EXCELLENT for poker... that's about it. They offer the LOWEST odds among any sports site out there and the HIGHEST juice. Along with the FEWEST betting options and often lines that don't come out until an hour before game starts. It's the worst sports betting site available IMO, although I'll give them credit for paying out... I won $1,500 one year.

I've been using 5 Dimes for the past few years and love em - their poker sucks, but for sports betting they're the best in the business - AAA rated, fair odds, lowest juice, most gambling options, and HIGHLY reputable. (in America anyway - Pinnacle.com is reportedly the best, but they don't service US)

However... in order to make a deposit, I use Western Union. I have to go down and wire money to whatever random name they give me in Cost Rica (different every time). Pain in the ass and a leap of faith that it actually gets there, but it's never failed me. Yes, you can use a Visa credit card (sometimes), but when it's time to withdraw, they will then require a copy of your ID and a home bill. They all do it. I prefer the Western Union method. It's a bit of pain to deposit, but you won't have to jump through hoops to get a withdraw.

interesting. Thank you for the insight. As i mentioned before I used bodog back in the day before they became bovada... (they did become bovada correct?) anyhow, I never had an issue with bodog.

Im also not interested in Poker. I can do that easily enough in NJ via a number of sites like Borgata.

Im interested in

1. being able to sign up for the damn site (something bovada wont let me do when I enter my zip code)

2. depositing a few hundred

3. betting

4. having lots of betting options, including player props

5. hopefully cashing out at the end of the football season.

I don't really care what the "juice" is. I can't imagine the juice on sites is vastly different. I have been checking out a number of sites and just like when I used my local bookie (tied to an offshore website as well for placing the bets) standard vig is -110 on spread bets, sometimes -105 and sometimes -115. Maybe there is a wider difference on ML bets on favorites but I never play those.

im not a big fan of having to provide photo ID and a bill and everything to be able to cash out, so maybe western union is best although I was hoping to place something on week 1.

That juice adds up over time. 5 Dimes has the lowest juice on the net. If you bet on the day of the game, they offer "reduced" juice at -105, otherwise it's -110 if you bet earlier. Blowdog consistently offered -120, and their GOD AWFUL futures odds were criminal. They'd offer a long-shot at 100:1, while every other site on the planet has the same team at 200:1 or more. Ridiculous.

I've had friends ask me which site I use and how to deposit and when I mention the Western Union thing I lose 'em. I get it. Everyone wants to use a credit card and make it easy. I was nervous the first time I did it, but it worked fine.

You log on, click on deposit, choose the method, and print out the name they say send it to (I said Western Union, but I think it was actually EMoney or something like that - same thing). You then have 24 hours to send it. Go to any check cashing store, fill out form, and send it... eat the 5% fee. Go back home, log on, enter routing number, wait an hour.... boom. You're gambling!

thanks for the info on going to money order / wire route.

as for the juice, if you say bodog was constantly at -120 then yeah, thats pretty bad and would add up over time. Im not used to seeing -120 unless you buy half a point on a spread. Otherwise, almost every site I have ever looked at and the site i used previously when all the monetary transactions were done through a local guy, standard juice is -110. Sometimes you get a -105 to entice and sometimes a -115 when they want to deter a bit of money being placed on a team.

futures, you got me there. I wouldnt make a bet on a future if the odds were not good enough anyway but I don't view that the same way I view typical vig. having to bet 11 to win 10 versus 12 to win 10 is an annoyance. Placing a 50 dollar futures bet at 100-1 instead of 150-1 is also an annoyance but likely wouldnt stop me from placing the bet if I truely liked that future.

side note: bodog and bovada are one int he same and in checking out the juice on bovada, seems pretty standard to me.

I actually don't bet many futures, but still.... that shows how bad Bodog/Bovada is when they offer half the odds of every other site. They're a big name in the business, but they're taking advantage of people who don't know any better. Along with the increase juice and limited betting options. Not a fan.

BTW - https://www.sportsbookreview.com/betting-sites/

Regardless of which site you choose, if your site isn't A rated by SBR, you probably ain't getting paid. A few years ago Bodog/Bovada was downgraded to a "B" rating after some shenanigans I heard about (some folks had checks bounce apparently), but I guess they're back to being an A. Still, I wouldn't use em.

im not championing bovada/bodog.

not intending to use them. I cant even if I wanted to. Just wanted to point out that they were one in the same and whenever i check their odds, they seem pretty on par with normal.

ill either end up with 5 dimes or my bookie, most likely.

then again, I see SBR has mybookie rated C.... Bovada is A+

I'm confused. How does depositing via WU help with withdrawals? Do they send the withdrawal via WU as well? BTW, I've used this deposit method with a poker site in the past. Definitely scary the first time but it does seem to work.

I use Bovada because they support both sports and poker. They actually quit poker for a year or so but brought it back a couple weeks ago. I can use the same bankroll for both sports and poker. I suspect their odds are a little worse than other sites but not nearly as bad as indicated in this thread. Most bets are -110 like other sites, but as noted they will make adjustments to slightly alter where the cash is going, to -105 or -115/120 sometimes. Seems like they do that to kind of split the difference when they don't want to change the actual line but want to influence the ratio of money on each side.

If anyone cares I went with mybooke.au

Deposit ed via CC and there was no convenience fee. 100% deposit bonus. We will see how much of a hassle cashing iu ends up being

Basically I was set to go with 5 Dimes but read sme very recent reviews in reddit and they were not good. Money vanishing from people accounts and taking weeks to get it back.

Hopefully mybookie doesn't give me any issues. We shall see.

5 dimes juice was slightly better, i will admit.

Well I pathetically lost the parlay that I was trying to have Ed place for me although I did swap out the Redskins with the Raiders either way still lost also lost a moneyline wager on the Jets I couldn't resist both teams aren't trying to win and the Jets were getting + 330 on the money line

Salvage the day with an afternoon parlay win on the Packers and Panthers so I did finish up for the day

"C" rating per Sportsbook review. Good luck.

On a side note, a friend recently asked me about "BetDSI" which they said was out of Vegas. I'd never heard of them and didn't think it was even legal for Vegas books to do that, but I'll be damned... SportsBook Review has them as "A+" so I guess it's legit.

You keep parlaying and cashing out wont be an option. So at least it may not matter how good the site is

You wanna parlay money-line favorites, go ahead. I do that quite often with college football (take a 10+ point favorite and another big favorite parlayed together.... all they have to do is win, to hell with point spreads). You'll get "true odds" meaning you'll win the same amount regardless of betting them in a parlay or betting the first game and then taking the winnings plus original bet, and putting it the second game. Mathematically, it's identical.

However, why in the world you ever parlay an underdog money-line? What's the point? Just bet the dog and end it. Personally, I never bet dogs on the money-line, I want the points, but whatever.

For the love of god, DON'T EVER PARLAY games ATS, which pays "fixed odds" meaning you'll win LESS than betting them individually.

I don't Gamble but I found this pretty amazing. My buddy two houses up for me bets on games all the time. He said he makes a call to a certain phone number that nobody says anything it just beeps.

He places his bet and that's it. Says the guy is in like Florida or something.

This guy down in Florida has a runner here in Des Moines essentially drop off envelopes to him if he wins. Says the guys a Straight Arrow. Works in insurance or something and does this on the side being a runner.

I'm like how big is this guy's network if he has that many people in Des Moines of all places betting that he needs to hire money runners. Crazy.

Also I'll explain a few things on the way I bet.

Yes, I will sometimes include a "dog" moneyline in a parlay but only when they are slight dogs and taking the ML gives me +100,+105,+110. I'd rather have the better odds than get 1.5 points.

Yes I will parlay spreads. I usually prefer to parlay overs but here's the thing. Sometimes I would rather parlay 3 games (let's say 2 overs and 1 ATS) and lay 20 to win 120ish. If I bet those same three games individually, I have to lay 21 on each game to win 20 on each game (assuming -110 juice). I make plentry of straight wagers but if I happen to really like 3 or 4 plays, I'd much rather parlay them. Sure, I could go 2-1 or 3-1 which would win me a little money versus a full loss of a parlay... but again, I'm risking a lot less.

Over the years I've made most of my modest gambling gains on small parlay hits and fantasy type (over-under receptions etc) wagers.
