Picked up a bag. 0 Carbs. Open bag took a wiff. Practically threw up. Threw it away without even tasting it.

Thoughts ?

Best low carb snack on the shelf

Salt & Vinegar flavor from the Turkey Creek brand is the best.

If you buy the White People Brand it will look and taste like Styrofoam.

Fortunately where I am at there are plenty of Messican options. They call them chicharrones and they are delicious.

Yeah, that first blast of smell can definitely be off-putting. The dam, pop that first one in your mouth and you're Off to the Races.

It's a lot like going down on your mom.

Use a drop or two of your favorite hot sauce as condiment.

People's food hangups never cease to amaze me. Pork rinds are awesome, especially when deep frying the actual skin.

I can get that (actual skin) but this cheap ass bag smelled like burnt ass. I have zero food hang ups.

I'll have to try another brand

This is exactly the problem with the low carbohydrate diet craze. Pork rinds have little, if any, nutritional value. More often than not, they have a sh!t ton of salt and preservatives. But what the he!!, they have no carbs !?*!%, so snack away!

I'm sure I've mentioned this to you but when I first started this craze I weighed 281,high cholesterol, high blood pressure etc. My doc asked that I not do it but I had to try.6 months of eating low carb and walking treadmill I went back weighing 231 and cholesterol was almost perfect,BP etc. Doc was literally :shocking: even said it went against everything he was taught.Four months later I got to my lowest weight 199 by continuing on.Sharing this again for those reading who may be trying this or have been thinking about it.

This I can agree on. The warped sense of diet people have is wild. I actually heard a women talk about pork rinds and no carbs the other day. But this goes in line with many other no carb foods. People dont seem to understand that your body needs nutrients to run properly and have energy.

Not many people want to eat cleaner or less. Its just a game of finding junk food with little to no carbs.

Odd stuff.

By the way they are nasty.

Speaking for me personally I ate a lot of salads and raw veggies.

Yeah.. it sure is a sucky nutrient deficient way of eating.. last night I had a cesar salad sans crutons, a 12 oz ribeye with sauteed mushrooms, and a pile of steamed brocolli.

How on earth will I survive on this cardboard...

Down 13 lbs in 3 weeks... still lifting hard in the gym.

Correct. Exactly the same as low fat foods that were created when that was the craze.

There are healthy ways to go about both low fat and low carbohydrate diets, of course, but calling something a "good" snack because it lacks a macronutrient is retarded.

Do you think the 12 oz ribeye is a "healthy" food choice? Bacon? Pork rinds?

Sure.. taken in combination with other fats, protien, veggies, etc..

https://www.scienced...61202094340.htm

https://www.healthli...n-saturated-fat

Sure you have to watch out how bacon is cured.. nitrates added ect.. and porkrhines with a redic amount of salt.. but meh.. the sat fat ain't the debil you guys were taught apparently.

Also for some reason I thought you were vegan.. my bad. Apologies if thats not correct.

I didn't say all saturated fat is unhealthy, nor is it a problem to eat red meat sparingly. But to eat it regularly in relatively large portions, or heavily processed stuff rather than a largely plant-based diet does not promote long term health. If it did, wouldn't you expect long lived populations to be indulging in such dietary patterns?

ETA What do you think this statement means? From your link:

In conclusion, strong evidence supports the partial replacement of SAFA-rich foods with those rich in cis-PUFA to lower LDL-C and reduce CHD risk.

I think you guys may have a hyped idea of the low carb craze. Yes... some goofballs are going to try to eat butter n cheese smothered bacon for every meal, but thats obviously not sustainable either. Most of what I eat for fat is coconut oil, olive oil, and grassfed butter. I eat a ton of greens and fiberous veg like asparagus.

There is a big difference between an induction phase and a way of life regiment.

Most of the keto is based on simple foods ie organic veg, eggs, grass fed non-hormoned meats.. etc.

Stay away from grain carbs. The carbs you eat... try for fiberous to keep the glycemic level to a minimum... strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, avocadoes...

I see you edited your post, acknowledging the unhealthful qualities of bacon and pork rinds. Red meat ain't much better BTW. But I bet you still eat all that stuff, and keto fans may even suggest they're better for you than carbohydrates, which have become the new debbil.

It's absurd to categorize an entire class of macronutrient as bad, whether it be fat or carbohydrates (I won't be surprised if protein is next on the hit-list). There are good and bad choices in both groups. But my bigger point is overall health is promoted by diets which look nothing like those espoused by the ketophiles. I'm not talking solely about weight loss, as disease prevention and longevity are far more important.
