As the 2018 draft starts...

Recommended Posts

As those of you around last year surely recall, 29 Guests' home was flooded due to Hurricane Harvey and he was offline missing the draft cutdown and draft until round four. So, at that time, we agreed that he could have supplemental picks at 1.15 and 2.15 this year as compensation. So when you see added picks at the end of round one and two this year, that's what I'm doing.

http://www.fftodayforums.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=468691

I'm going in there now to set up the draft. Old School has accepted a return invitation and has promised to get in there sometime today to set up/take over team Twin Peaks from Suzie.

I'm also hesitant to set up WW's team as he's been AWOL lately from the league although he's been around online active in 12 Geeks. I'm thinking he may not have noticed that we're on for this year so I sent him a PM, but only just a half hour ago so I'll give him a few more hours to check in.

So, I'll have twelve of the fourteen teams setup in the next 45 mins/ hour or so then go to bed (as I live in China) when I wake up, hopefully I'll see that Old School and WW have been through and can set up those teams for the draft as well.

I put Hunter Henry on Firefly's IR as per the rules we voted in last year.

29 Guests should have access returned to Deep Throat and old School to Twin Peaks.

And, with that, I'm off to set up 12/14ths of the draft right now. The draft starts about 24 hours from now, when the Cards/Cowboys final whistle blows.

OK, other than Boondock Saints and Twin Peaks, the draft is set for the otehr twelve teams. I'll punch out now, I'm hopeful I'll see some activity from Old School and WW by the time I return.

also what you want for a QB?

When I PMed WW last night, I knew it put me to 50. You could have used the open PM I'd sent you to get a message through, especially since it was CCDL related, noob.

Anyway, to answer your question. I'm needing RB help. My first round selection in the inaugural Year One draft was McCoy and after picking at the bottom of round one for years, frequently WRs as RBs always get picked over well before I get a sniff, and so he's still the only reliable RB I have and I have had to play 4 WRs often the last few years. I need to get that straightened out. Pick 1.5 this year will help.

Looking at your roster I'm not sure you have the RB firepower to make it happen unless I could pry Barkley out of you. Bradford comes cheap though. I could package a QB of your choice and 1.5 for Barkley and your last round's draft pick or I could move Bradford for 3.1.

Bradford aint worth squat, I have Carr and Eli anyways, I think Jimmy G fits in that tier so not much of an upgrade. And imo something like Hyde for Mahomes is fair, since you play Cam anyways with Jimmy backup, QB's aren't as valuable as RB's imo

Mahomes is not a buy low candidate. I'm quite excited by him through draft hype and two preseasons. Once upon a time, in my other dynasty league, I traded away an unproven Ben Roethlisberger in his rookie or second year and it was a big mistake. That's about what I'm expecting to see out of Mahomes if not this year than next.

I like Hyde. He had a lot of competition but he ought to be Cleveland committee leader; he's been dinged up but that's how things play out at RB a lot and he's not dinged up now. I'm moderately concerned,

I presume that pick 2.5 ought to be smack in the wheelhouse to land one of these hotshot rookie QBs. I see Mahomes as a likely sure thing, more valuable than Hyde but these rookies are a bigger gamble and not a position of need.. See how the draft plays out and when the time comes, if you see a rookie QB you like there, a deal can be had for Hyde. I doubt I'll see anybody I like better than Hyde at 2.5

the thing is there isn't a qb in the league I would have traded Mixon for, and I hate Mixon. There are too many good QB's and servicable combos (like Carr/Eli) I wouldn't trade Hyde for any of the QB's in the draft this year

right now as I look at it, I am going with Barkley and Williams first 4 weeks, and Hyde and Williams will rotate in depending on how GB plays out

also there are some players missing from my draft list

Since that trade created a 5th open roster spot for me can I get my 5th round pick?

I sent you mine, it's slightly better.

If we're lucky about a half. It's pretty late for you guys and it seems that shotsup isn't around.

The draft timer is set for 12 hours and the system picks for the owner using ADP which is what we voted on a few years ago.

The one guy missed the draft last year because of Harvey.

But the further you go in the draft the less teams have draft packs in that particular round.

wtf Penny for Hurst?

Don't worry. You get used to it after awhile.

Worm I sent you a different offer. If you could accept or decline it soon that would be swell.I need to know what direction to go with my next pick.

Edit: wrong owner

Last year, as the draft commenced, Hurricane Harvey was literally raining hell in the Houston area. It knocked 29 Guests offline for 7-10 days, I don't recall exactly but he'd missed the cutoff and the start of the draft. Now, he did have one longstanding open roster spot which the ADP assigned him Samaje Perine but then, he had no 2/3/4 etc round picks.

When he finally logged back on it was round four... just about where we are right now.. We'd discussed it last year what to do and decided the best/least bad option was to give him supplemental 1.15 and 2.15 picks in this year's draft.

wtf Penny for Hurst?

He got Hurst and my 3rd and 4th rounders as well.

While both Firefly and Deep Throat were OTC at 1.14 and 1.15 respectively, I'd offered both 2.5, 3.5, and 4.5 for the pick. Firefly went ahead and picked instead. Deep Throat had the timer expire on him and so he was assigned Penny by ADP. Penny was the target I had tried to trade up for with the OTC picks.

So, although the trade fell through, I recontacted Deep Throat anyway as he had been assigned Penny, he didn't pick him, so I fugured there was a chance he didn't actually want him. So I'd re-offered him the same deal 2.5,3.5, and 4.5 for Penny. By the time he got back to me, 2.5 had hardened into Hurst but it wasn't a deal breaker and we did the deal with Hurst.

----

In leagues that drafted early Penny was going around fifth or sixth or so which was where I was picking. I was happy with that five pick, I needed a RB and it was my consolation prize for having to endure being on the receiving end of having the most points scored against me in the league last year.

But then Guice got hurt and neither Penny nor Jones (nor Michel) were able to displace veteran holdovers from last year. That 5th pick wasn't looking so hot anymore. Ideally I'd get Michel there because I could put Michel with Burkhead and then spend a year or three consulting a psychic so as to discern what Bill Belicheck would do at RB week in and week out. Jones and Penny looked like lemons.

Firefly came to me with an offer for Crabtree, was giving Carson and Hooper. Crabtree had been a regular member of my starting lineup for years but at 30 was getting a bit long in the tooth. Carson was a late round guy holding his own against the first round hotshot to win the starting job. Seattle's backfield was a disaster last year, I'd not noticed Carson then, but I did my homework and he'd caught my eye as he was winning praise and holding off Penny for the starting job this year. Hooper had been a highly acclaimed TE prospect coming out of school. After two years in, the bloom was coming off the rose. At worst he would do as a TE2, which I needed anyway, and there was still potential to grow as it takes some guys three years to develop.

Another nice thing about Carson was that he eased my mind about that five spot. I needed a RB badly but Jones or Penny and their mediocre training camps were looking like unappealing options. With Carson in the fold though, Penny became far more desirable and I liked my five pick better. So, when Mtskibum went WR, I had my choice, I still took Michel who for weeks had been feeling like about the best I could expect to get.

And so in passing on Penny at 1.5, I thought I was done with him. Then I watched him fall, fall, fall such that by the time Firefly was on the board at 1.14, I got to thinking that maybe I could trade up from 2.5 and include all the rest of my draft as well, I could get him. Firefly didn't take my trade offer but he didn't take Penny either. So, I went to Deep Throat with the same deal.

yah that auto pick screwed me as I thought I would get both

But bottom line is Penny is a legit RB, and your 3rd 4th 5th whatever picks are garbage anyways

I am happy with Miller fwiw

Also I am looking for a TE

do people not know about the auto rank feature? Its one of the best things on MFL, it lets you queue by round

1 pick made all day

Some do, some don't use it.

Yeah, it's really dragging, especially in my case as I gave all my picks away for the last couple of rounds in exchange for the back end of Deep Throat's draft. I'd been trying to trade back in but... meh... no takers. Sixteen more picks to go before we'll open up first come-first serve (FC/FS) waivers for however many days until kickoff week one.

While I'm at it, players cut during FC/FS are not available for pick up until week one waivers. This has been a problem in the past and each year, I have to figure out all over again which commish levers to pull to allow for FC/FS waivers but block players dropped.

This is handled differently than how FC/FS waivers work the end of the season. In that case, yes, the player dropped at 8:00 is available for first dibs to the team owner that shows up at 8:05 before anybody else sees it. That seems less bad than locking dropped players up through the offseason.

Four more picks.

There's a good chance we'll finish while I'm in bed, then I begin my first day of work in the morning as well so I may not be able to live up to my promise to start FCFS promptly after the last pick.

I think whenever Top Gun makes that last pick at 8.3, look at the time stamp and add 24 hour to it, I'll open FCFS waivers for whoever is online at that time. If it's 4 AM China time, so be it although in that case, I may beg 90sbaby to cover for me. Don't feel a need to show up if you don't want to; bar some crazy last second news, my team is set; I almost surely won't be participating other than turning them on this year.

Everyone that makes it through the draft unclaimed is available but players cut during FCFS will be on waivers through week one.
